RIDDHIMA’S POV

It was time to meet Vansh. I put on my best pair of shorts with a crop top and actually did my makeup in what feels like forever. One could argue that me putting so much effort into my appearance when I was going to meet a guy just to satisfy my mother was a little weird, and to them I say: give me a break. I don’t always make sense. On that note, my phone beeped.
Ahana: hiii mon amour this is ur daily reminder to dump karan
Ahana: oh wait…sOmEoNe has a dateeeee
Ahana: im deeply hurt that u didnt even send me his pic when u know how much i love objectifying guys
I rolled my eyes. Ahana can be too much sometimes. Nevertheless, I sent her his picture because, what can I say, I love it too.

The first thing I thought when entered the venue was: is he rich or what? Which was a stupid question, of course he was rich, mom had said just as much. But still, this place was proper bougie. I would never have been able to afford a meal here and we aren’t even poor.
The next thing I thought was that mom was right again, he was even hotter in person. Siting right in front of me, he looked like an overdressed dream. Clearly he was taking this shit seriously. I felt bad for him, because I was anything but a catch. At least for guys like him.
Get your shit together, Riddhima, it’s time to act like a decent human being.
I went up to our table just as he looked up.
”Hi, you must be Riddhima,” he said,”I’m Vansh. It’s so nice to meet you. ”
”Likewise,” I muttered, getting seated.
”Y-you look…great,” he stuttered. Jesus, this guy was nervous. That’s cute, I guess.
”You don’t look so bad yourself,” I tried to sound reassuring.
Cue the awkward silence. Kill me now. I realized I needed to be straightforward.
“So, sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not actually looking for a match or anything. I’m here because my mom kind of forced me to be. In fact, I already have a boyfriend.”
”Oh,” he looked dazed, ”The truth is I don’t wanna be here either. I’m in the same situation. Just doing this for my family.”
”Great,” I beamed,”So do you actually want to marry someone they set you up with or…?”
”Yeah, that’s the plan, I guess,” he said,”Um, if you don’t mind me asking, how many boyfriends have you had?”
I kind of did mind him asking. It’s not his place to demand my romantic history after having known me for all of two minutes. It’s not any of his damn business. I tried to calm myself down.
”Just one. But I’ve had a girlfriend before.”
“Girlfriend?” he looked shocked. Poor guy.
“Yeah, I’m bis*xual,” I told him, preparing myself for the homophobia. But it never came.
”Cool,” is all he said.
We exchanged numbers and I noticed that his wallpaper was the picture of a pretty girl.
”Who’s that?” I asked.
“That’s my sister, Ishani,” he said.
And then I had my eureka moment. I mean, literally. I imagined a bulb glowing on top of my head.
”Hey, I have an idea,” I said, barely able to withold my excitement.
”I’m listening.”
”I know how can get our families off our back. It’s very simple…we just have to pretend to date.”
