Yeh Hai Mohabbatein: Can we ever be Adliya again? — Chapter 4

her taxi entered the big city known as the capital of India, Delhi. nothing has changed from when she left the city 6 years ago.

the city was always moving; cars, people, busses, trains. all those people making the organic part of the city, the part that determined the character and the structures. those people dreamed of stadiums and theatres, they built ice-rinks and laid out parks with soccer pitches. they built churches, mosques and temples. there were hospitals, libraries, police stations, courts and jails. they made the roads wide and the tower blocks tall.

everything was the same but were the people the same?

the scene slowly shift to a bar…the smoke twisted in its artistic way, forming curls in the gloom, illuminated only by the age-speckled bar lights.along the wall was every hue of amber liquid in their inverted bottles. a tall man with short black hair and a well-done beard was at the bar counter. dark circles under his eyes which could clearly be recognized against his pale tired skin. there was a scratch on his left cheek which was bright ruby red – he earned that scratch from a recent fight in the bar since bars are known for their violent fights.

“waiter” his voice wailed.

the waiter came and asked: what do you want?

“vodka and make it large!” he moaned.

the waiter nodded and left to get it for him. the man turned and his face was revealed to be adi….aditya bhalla….raman bhalla’s son who was in a right state.

the waiter came back and gave adi his medicine….vodka. anything that had alcohol in it was his only friend and it didn’t improve his temper or his pain. his friend came up to him and asked him: adi, let’s go. you are torturing yourself!

adi: no…i won’t…go….and….and…i am not….tortu…ring…myself.

friend: why are you always after alcohol? it is doing you no good.

adi: i am….an alcoholic. years of alcohol….abuse ha….had left my….cheeks rosy and his mind….. dul….dull-witted. you know? drying out…..would be a…..pain…painful process and…..and i have….no intention of…. ever going through it. i am….determ…determined to stay…..drunk until he died.

he lifted his big glass of the disgusting liquid. a sour and vile taste slipped into his mouth, nullifying him, stealing away reality in favour of fantasy. he came to lust after it like no other, the strong tonic becoming his only “cure.”

meanwhile:

sweat….sweat rolled down from her forehead as she saw the door saying ‘Bhallas’ and another door saying ‘Iyers’ she just stared at the nameplates, drowning into an ocean called fear.

memories were the soul torturer of the girl.

she couldn’t escape them, or hide from them; they were the worst kind of monster.

she was scared of what her past held, all the memories that seemed to never escape her. they were pin point needles, piercing her skin. she couldn’t scream or fight back, she had to just endure the pain as the picture of his face flashed through her mind.

she had experienced pain before.

but nothing amounted to this.

she could neither hide or run or fight them. her memories were indeed her worst enemy and the thing that would most likely destroy her.

she turned to leave the building when she remembered someone…someone special….her only best friend from the last 6 years….the angel who recused from hell….her daughter gauri. the minute gauri was placed in her arms six years ago, the happiness was infectious. it started as a tingle in her fingers and toes, much like the feeling shehas when she’s anxious, but instead of worrisome it’s warm. she felt it pass through her like a warm ocean wave, washing away the stress of her day to leave aliya refreshed inside. gauri’s small smile made aliya realize that heaven exists.

aliya turned back facing the door and took ducklings steps reaching the door. she lifted her hand and rang the doorbell. 2 seconds later, a young girl opened the door… her eyes were the colour of earth kissed by spring rains, the hue that promises to stir life from dormant seeds, the nascent plants guided upward by the light before blossoming into the vibrant colours of a new season. her skin was a light fair complexion and her face was smooth, clear, glowing and youthful. her hair was so perfectly jet black. the shade was so dark with bright shines creating a great contrast. they were soft and silky as aliya could tell by every strand. black strands cascaded down her back like molten onyx. around her face it was cut a little shorter, feathered to accentuate her perfect elfin features. she was wearing coral pink lipstick and kajal round her beautiful eyes not to forget the perfectly done wing eyeliner. finally she was wearing a playsuit:

the girl faced aliya and instantly her smile turned to a frown.

girl: you?

voice from inside: who is it sita?

yes that girl was sita.

sita: the past.

aliya: sita? sita, you? oh my gosh you look so beautiful.

sita: please! don’t try and soften me! just get lost RIGHT NOW!!!
