Why is actress Swati Kapoor always playing obsessive, glamorous lover? She answers

The acting skills of any good actor is judged by the various roles they essay over time. But there some actors feel they are trapped in similar roles. The very same thing is happening to actress Swati Kapoor. Two years back she was essaying the role of Mahira Khanna in the popular TV show Kundali Bhagya. But she noticed that it is always happening to her that she is landing roles of obsessed lovers. And that’s the reason why she had decided to take a break from TV. Now she is back.

She will now be venturing in Dhruv Tara, which features Riya Sharma, Ishaan Dhawan, Narayani Shastri and Yash Tonk.

In an interview with Etimes, she said, “I played Mahira for two years and my track ended just before Kundali Bhagya (KB) took a time leap. After that, I was offered similar characters. Like my track in KB, it would be a triangle with me in love with the guy, who loves the heroine and how I turn into an obsessive lover wanting him at all costs. I wanted a break from the image and not from work, as I had done everything I could as Mahira. I was looking for something different. Similar offers coming my way would make me wonder what was wrong with me that the guy just won’t love me back in a show (laughs!). I could play a businesswoman, who is back to exact revenge. Why am I in love with these people and they will never ever love me back?”

Many say that versatile characters on TV are far and few between. She says, “It’s indeed very difficult and I faced it in one year. Since we are seen on screen every day, people tend to forget our previous work. Moreover, Kundali Bhagya has been a successful show and my character was also popular, it kind of got stuck in people’s minds. People would approach me with glamorous roles, as they felt that I was most suited for that, while I told them that I have done plain Jane characters before. It gets very difficult to convince people that you can pull off a different character or a shade, as they remember what you played last. Moreover, a character’s popularity makes it difficult to break free from an image. Having said that, I am grateful for whatever I have achieved while playing Mahira.”

But universe was conspiring again and she has landed a role where she will be playing the role of a girl who is in love with the male lead. She says, “I guess I can’t do away with that (laughs!). But my character, Aisha in Dhruv Tara is quite different from Mahira, especially in terms of looks and the graph. That was my main concern. I realised that one more project is similar to KB and I doubt, I will ever get something else. There is always a fear of getting stereotyped. Another exciting aspect of Dhruv Tara is that the show is based in Agra and I am from Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh). So, it takes me back to my roots .”
