Part 5: Phone number
NEXT MORNING AT GH
Whole family was eating their breakfast.
Arjun: By the way Di, did jiju take your phone number
Swara nods in a no.
Arjun: Did you give your phone number to him
Swara: No
Shekhar: uffo, swara then how will you talk to sanskar. You know it is important for you two to talk so that you guys know about each other more.
Swara: But he didn’t ask so…
Arjun: It’s okay di because I have his number
Swara smiles. Arjun gives sanskar’s number.
Shomi: I think sanskar might have forgotten to ask your number so you do talk to him once
Swara (monologue): He is a very busy person how can I just call him?
All of them get busy in their work. Swara went to school, shekhar went to his office and arjun went to his college.
AT MM
Sanskar comes down in his casual wear. All of them were shocked to see him as sanskar leaves home for his office at exactly 9.30am and today he is not ready.
Sujata (worriedly): Are you okay sanskar? I mean you are not ready for office.
Sanskar (hesitates): ummm…woh…han actually I don’t feel like going to office today so.
All of them shout together in shock: WHAT!
Sanskar was startled at the sudden shout, “Calm down people…I am not deaf”
Laksh: Oh my god, I can’t believe that you are actually not going to office today as the great sanskar maheshwari never avoids his office even if he is sick or there any birthday party.
Sanskar: Come on, don’t make it a big issue. You guys used to scold me for not taking any holiday from office and today when I am taking holiday you guys are overreacting.
Ragini: ok sorry sanskar. Now come and eat your breakfast.
Sanskar sits on his chair and starts eating his breakfast. Laksh was suspiciously looking at sanskar.
Laksh (monologue): is he staying home to ask swara’s phone number from ragini. If he is then I will be very happy as at last my little brother is grown up.
Rp and laksh finished their breakfast and went to with aryan as they drop him to his school while going to their office. Ragini goes into her room for some work while sanskar follows her.
Sanskar knocks on the door, “May I come in bhabhi”
Ragini: Arrey sanskar, come in and you don’t need to ask permission to enter.
Sanskar comes in. He was fidgeting with his finger as he didn’t know how to ask.
Ragini: What happened sanskar?
Sanskar: Woh bhabhi, I forgot ask swara’s phone number from her. And bhai told me that you her phone number so may I please get her number.
Ragini (surprised): Wait, wait, does it mean that you took holiday just to get her phone number form me.
Sanskar: Umm woh
Ragini (excitedly): Oh my god, I knew that she will change my workaholi devar but this fast.
Sanskar: Bhabhi please
Ragini: Awww… you want her phone number
Sanskar nods cutely
Ragini (teasingly): Then you have to earn her number by solving puzzles
Sanskar: What!
Ragini: Yes devarji, I will keep giving clues about swara’s number and you have to catch those hints
Sanskar (attitudely): I won’t play this stupid game…
Ragini giggles, “Ok, your choice, the game is on from my side. Even if you will request for 7 days 4 times a day, I will not tell the number because you will earn the number
Saying this she goes away.
Sanskar: Why will I request 7 days and 4 times a day?
Just then something strucks in his mind, ‘7 days’ ‘4 times.’ He saves the first two number.
Sanskar: Now lets hunt for next clue.
Saying he went to kitchen where ragini was preparing lunch.
Ragini: Arrey wah, sanskar. What did you eat in the morning that you didn’t go to office today and now you are in the kitchen.
Sanskar (hesitates): Wohh….actually… han, I came to help you
Ragini chuckles, “Okay..so, (she picks some vegetables from the basket and hands over to sanskar), here cut these 4 ladyfingers and 2 potatoes.
Sanskar gets confused first but then he smiles as he got the next clue ‘4’ and ‘2’. He enters these three numbers in his phone. Till then sujata also comes in the kitchen and was shocked seeing sanskar in the kitchen.
Sujata: Hey ram, Sanskar, is your health okay? I can’t believe that you are in the kitchen.
Sanskar: Woh..ma, actually.
Ragini: Sanskar came to help me
Sujata: Arrey wah,
Sanskar (little embarrassed): Ha toh, can’t I help bhabhi in cooking.
Sujata (giggling): no no, you can help. (to ragini) umm, ragini. As sanskar is helping you can you come to the terrace with me as I need take dried clothes.
Ragini: ji ma
They start to go but ragini stops, “Sanskar, when you cut those vegetables, put them in the round bowl ok.
Sanskar unwillingly nods.
Ragini (emphasising on the word ’round’): round bowl..don’t forget.
Saying this she goes away.
Sanskar: Why was she emphasising on ’round’ word.
Just then something struck in his mind making him happy.
Sanskar: one minute, round…zero is the number which is round in shape.
He gets happy and updates swara’s number.
He comes goes to the terrace where ragini and sujata were. Ragini sees sanskar.
Ragini: Ma, I have to go to market today.
Sujata: When will you go?
Ragini: 3.30 pm
Ragini sees sanskar who was still looking at ragini. She got that sanskar didn’t get her clue.
Ragini: Ma, even aryan is coming back from school at 3.30. And my favourite serial also comes at 3.30
Sanskar smiles widely as he got next 3 numbers, ‘330’
AT GH
Swara came back from school. She was laying down on shomi’s lap. It is her daily routine, she would lay down in shomi’s lap and tell her about her day, till shekhar and arjun come back to home.
Shomi was stroking her hair lovingly.
Shomi: Shona, how did you find sanskar? I mean do you see him as your soulmate.
Swara (reminiscing sanskar): Ha ma, he is indeed a down to earth and soft-spoken person. You know, he opened his heart to me. His eyes are full of honesty and loyalty. The way he spoke to me, you, bhabhi and ma… it shows how much he respects women. (hiding her face in shomi’s tummy shyly) I feel that he is my soulmate
Shomi smiles and kisses her forehead.
AT MM- evening
Sanskar didn’t get any clue for the last two numbers from ragini. As she went to market at 3.30 and came back after 3 hours and is now in the kitchen preparing for dinner with sujata
Sanskar (restlessly): How will I get next two numbers? Bhabhi is busy. Should I do trial and error? No no, the people might know my private number and leak it? Damn it.
He takes out swara’s picture and sees it, “What have you done to me swara? The boy who never paid any heed to girls, who was shy in even saying hi to girls, the boy who never missed his office even if he was sick is now dying to hear you, so desperate to get your number that I missed my office, entered the kitchen, cut vegetables and what not. (shyly smiles) I don’t know what is happening to me but I know that you are the only girl who is giving me this feeling.”
Ragini who heard his talk thought, “Sanskar, you are falling in love. But you should discover this feeling more. Thank you god for sending swara in my workaholic son like brother cum brother in law in his life. ”
Then she comes in with a black t-shirt in her hand. Sanskar hurriedly turns his phone off.
Ragini: Hi sanskar.
Sanskar disappointingly says, “hi”
Ragini: I bought a t-shirt for you. See and tell me how’s it
Sanskar: Okay, i will see it later
Ragini: No you have to see it now
Saying this unfolded the t-shirt and kept infront of sanskars face. Sanskar sees it without interest but then something caught his eyes. There were two number written in big size. It was ’48’ written on it. Sanskar jumped in happiness as he finally got her number and hugged ragini.
Sanskar: Thank you bhabhi…thank you so much
Ragini: your welcome devarji… now call my devraniji as soon as possible as she might be waiting for you.
Saying this she goes away giggling and tells to RamTha and laksh about sanskar. All of them have a hearty laugh.
Sanskar: Finally got your number swara.
He takes a deep sigh and calls her.
At GH
Swara was watering plants on the terrace while rest of her family were dowstairs. Her phone was in the hall where arjun and shekhar were sitting. Her phone rang and arjun saw the id.
Arjun while grinning naughtily, “It’s jiju’s phone”
Shekhar smiles, “go and give it to swara.”
Arjun starts to towards terrace and he picked the call while going.
Sanskar (hesitates): hello
Arjun: Hi jiju, how are you?
Sanskar: oh, hi arjun I am good, how are you?
Arjun: I am great. finally jiju you called di other wise she was very hesitate to call you.
Sanskar (curiously): Why?
Arjun: She was saying that what if you are in office, what if you are having lunch. She didn’t want to disturb you.
Sanskar smiles and asks hesitantly, “Where is your di?”
Arjun: She is on the terrace watering plants and I am going there.
Arjun soon reached terrace where swara was watering plants with a cute smile on her face.
Arjun: Di
Swara: yes arjun
Sanskar smiles listening to her melodious voice.
Arjun (smirking): Ummm…your friend has called you.
Swara: Friend
Arjun: Hann…roop di
Swara (excitedly): Sach
Saying this she took her mobile from arjun, without seeing the caller id. Sanskar heard all this.
Swara (fake anger): What is this Roop? You are finally calling me today. You didn’t call me and neither picked my calls since last two weeks. Were you that busy? You didn’t even come to see my performance in the annual function at my school. This is not done yaar. You know how much I am missing you. Roop, you know my engagement has been fixed. And…and if you will not come to my engagement then….then I won’t get engaged. So you have to come, no excuses.
Sanskar was totally in shock as he heard her speaking non-stop like a bullet train for the first time. There arjun was giggling, he was thinking about his poor jiju. Sanskar didn’t say anything due to shock.
Swara: Hello, roop… are you there?
Sanskar came out of his shock and cleared his throat.
Sanskar: Ahm ahm, hi swara..
Now it was swara’s turn to get shock. She widened her eyes as she recognizes the voice. She looked at the caller id to confirm and it was sanskar. She looked at arjun shockingly while arjun giggles seeing her cute expression.
Arjun: bye di
Saying this he runs away.
Swara (embarrassed): I..I…am so sorry..woh arjun told me that….tch I should have seen the caller id once, I am really sorry…I
Sanskar understood that she is embarrassed and panicked.
Sanskar: Calm down swara, relax. It’s totally okay.
Swara takes a sigh,
Sanskar (teasingly): By the way, I hope you won’t cancel our engagement if your friend will not be able to come.
Swara gulps and said innocently, “I… actually didn’t mean it. I was just..
Sanskar (monologue): Damn sanskar, you embarrassed her. (to swara), I am sorry, I was just teasing you.
Swara smiles and says, “it’s okay.”
They didn’t speak anything for few seconds. There was a silence. Swara broke the ice.
Swara: How’s everyone at home?
Sanskar: All are good, how about there
Swara: They are good.
Sanskar: How was your day?
Swara: It was good
Sanskar: So, to which classes do you teach music?
Swara: 2nd, 4th, 5th and 9th standard.
Sanskar: So you meet all kind of kids everyday.
Swara: yes.
Sanskar: Waise, ma and bhabhi were praising a lot about your singing talent. I am eager to hear your singing. Will you sing for me after our marriage, whenever I am tensed as I know that your voice will definitely relieve me? So will you sing?
Swara smiles shyly, “hmm”
Sanskar smiles as he understood that she is blushing. Just then he sees RagLak coming inside his room.
Sanskar (changing the topic): umm… today it was such a sunny day, right. I am loving this weather.
Swara (confused as he suddenly started talking about different topic): Han
Just then she hears laksh and ragini, she gets to know that the reason behind of changing the topic.
Laksh: Oh ho, here we were thinking that you will be talking romantic stuff with her but here you are giving weather forecast.
Sanskar glares at them while swara giggles at the other side. A curve forms on sanskar’s lips hearing her giggle.
Ragini: Can I please talk to swara?
Sanskar nods and gives the phone to ragini.
Ragini: hello swara, how are you?
Swara: I am good bhabhi, how are you and bhai and aryan.
Ragini: We all are good. Waise (teasingly) what magic have you done on sanskar?
Sanskar widens his eyes and was going to take the phone from ragini but laksh holds sanskar and ragini stands at the other corner of the room
Swara (innocently): I didn’t get you bhabhi.
Ragini: You know, sanskar never took holiday from his office even if he is sick but today he took holiday and you know why? Because he wanted to take your number from me. You know what he did just to take your number… (ragini tells everything about today.)
Swara smiles shyly listening to this. Sanskar came out of laksh’s clutches and literally snatched the phone from ragini making raglak giggle. They went out of the room.
Sanskar (panicking): Swara, don’t believe bhabhi, I mean…I did that but I actually I mean….(monologue) oh god sanskar what are you speaking?
Swara (changing the topic): Have you had your dinner yet.
Sanskar (smiling as she changed the topic to avoid his embarrassment): No, what about you?
Swara: not yet.
Sanskar: Actually, Ma said that we need to choose a ring of our choice for our engagement. Are you free at 2 pm on Monday?
Swara: Yes
Sanskar: ok, me, mom and ragini will come and we all will go together.
Swara: ji
Just then shomi calls swara.
Sanskar: You go and have your dinner….good night
Swara: Good night.
Sanskar cuts the call and takes a deep sigh. He scratches his back of the hair shyly.
