Unknown heartbeats – Chapter 5 by Abbi.

Chapter 5:

“He likes you,” She muttered.
I just looked at her, unable to say even a single word.
“He’s your best friend, right?” she said, and I finally got what she meant.

“Gauri! I’m going now,” I said as I was about to go out.
“Where are you going?” she asked me.
“Shivaay’s house. Why?” I replied.
“Oh. He’s not home, he texted me last night, saying he’s gonna be out with his friends,” she told me.
“And how the hell did you get his number?” I asked her.
My sister has my best friend’s number which I don’t even have. She just winked at me.
“Okay fine. I’m staying home,” I replied.
I sat on the couch for a good 30 seconds. I just can’t last long doing
nothing. I decided to play with my IPhone, but after 15 minutes, I got
tired. I took some pictures, uploaded it on Twitter and Instagram. I
replied to some tweets, and followed a few people.
“I’m off to Sarah’s house,” Gauri informed me before she went out of the house.
“Be back before dinner!” I shouted, and she replied with an “okay.”
Now, I’m alone in the house, left with nothing to do. I kind of stalked Shivaay on Twitter and Instagram, until I found something- something that
stabbed me.
@TheTimes: Shivaay Singh Oberoi @ Sidhart’s diner today with Tia Kapoor! Thought they broke up already. *View picture*
I viewed the photo right away.
It was a picture of them. It seems recent. Shivaay was looking serious. He
was holding Tia’s hand. It was tweeted just a few minutes ago. I stood up, grabbed my jacket. I’m off to Sidhart’s Diner. I rode a taxi to go there faster. And just when I was a few feet away, two figures went out of the main entrance. It was them.
Shivaay was wearing a plain white shirt and jeans, while Tia was looking gorgeous as always, her hair on a bun, with some strands falling out of place which makes her look hot. She is wearing a simple cropped top, and jeans, but she looks a million times better than me.
Suddenly, insecurity hit me.
Why am I here? It isn’t impossible for them to get back. Tia is just so perfect, and the two of them were a very cute couple. And I am nothing.
I was about to go, when someone called me.
“Annika!”
It was him. I pretended not to hear, and continued walking. I sped up a bit.
“Hey!” he shouted again.
I looked back and faked a smile, just so he won’t notice, then continued walking.
“Wait for me!” he said.
Just then, he was beside me. I just continued walking, not minding him.
“Are you avoiding me?” he asked.
“No. Why would I?” I said, trying to make my voice sound as normal as it used to be.
“I don’t know.”
Then, I asked myself, why am I avoiding him in the first place? It’s not his fault not to fall in love with me, and it is also not his fault for me to fall in love with him.
I flashed the prettiest smile I could ever form this time, and walked faster.
“I’m going somewhere!” I shouted as I started to run.
As I try to run away from my stupidity, tears started to fall. I just
let it. My feet took me to a very familiar place. The place where I was
go in the most of my emotions. I was here when I am the happiest, the
saddest, the angriest, and everything. It was my best friend next to
Shivaay.
I laid down on the grass, and closed my eyes.
After a few seconds, I opened my eyelids, and sighted someone from the corner of my eye.
“I thought you’re asleep,” he muttered.
“Why are you here?” I asked right after recognizing him.
“Am I not allowed?” he said.
I didn’t respond.
“Are you okay?” he asked, with a voice full of sincerity.
I faced him. Tears started to drip from my eyes, and before I knew it, he has pulled me into a hug.
This is one of the best things about him. He knows when I am not okay, but he
won’t ask why. He’ll just hug me, which really makes me feel better.
I pulled away.
“I’m fine,” I said even though he clearly knows that that was my biggest lie.
“You aren’t,” he argued.
“I am,” I assured him with a faint smile on my face.
“Stop smiling. I know it’s fake,” he uttered.
“But I am fine,” I said.
He just smiled at me.
“I have never asked this before, but now…” he replied.
“But now what?” I asked.
I gathered all courage and bravery I have, and replied.
“Because of you.”
