Twinj: Meant to be: Episode 19

A quick recap: Kunj defends Twinkle against Usha and his Maasi, before she heads to meet Yuvi with whom she has a heartfelt conversation. However, when he suggests the idea of her and Kunj, she storms off, only to return the next morning, and the two make up.

“Hi Aditi!” Twinkle greeted cheerfully, keeping her voice high enough for it to announce her arrival into the bride’s quarters. She heard Aditi mumble something, and followed the voice to find her at the dressing table. “Have I already said that you look gorgeous?” Twinkle said dreamily, although she knew she had already said it, at least a dozen times since that morning alone. Aditi giggled at that and turned to face her, casually dropping the necklace she had been trying out, on the table. “Thank you, Twinkle.” She said nevertheless, and Twinkle could only admire how bright and positive everything about Aditi was. Always had been.

“Yuvi – your husband-to-be I mean, asked me to come see you. I assume it was something urgent?” Twinkle breeched the topic carefully. She had been confused about it ever since Yuvi had given his orders, and couldn’t contain her curiosity anymore. Had she been turned into a messenger owl by the love birds? Aditi grinned wide at the mention, trying her best to fight the blush that had made its presence felt with Yuvi being referred to like that. “Yuvi and I have a little something for you!” She explained excitedly as she picked up a brown package from the bed and handed it to Twinkle.

Twinkle watched Aditi carefully for a whole minute before proceeding to unwrap it. “We really hope you like this dress and will wear it at the wedding!” Aditi said when Twinkle raised her eyes from the clothing in her hands to look at Aditi. “But–” Twinkle’s argument was cut short by Aditi’s “No excuses, please! Unless you didn’t like it, that is.” She waited for a moment for Twinkle to say so, but she already knew Twinkle had loved the dress. “As for that, although it was really my and Yuvi’s idea, he went to buy it himself because you know – the bride and groom shouldn’t be doing this or that. But we really wanted to give you a little token of our love and gratitude for all that you’ve done for us all along, so please consider my request?” Aditi continued, relieved when a pretty smile made its way to Twinkle’s face.

“I won’t refuse you, Aditi! You’re the bride after all. Your big day! I could definitely do this much for you and Yuvi!” Twinkle said slowly, her smile only brightening nevertheless. “Also, since it’s in my favourite colour.” She said in a whisper, but Aditi heard her. “Is it now? That’s great! Yuvi probably knew.” Aditi wondered out loud, shrugging her shoulders. “No, he didn’t.” Twinkle said, now wondering how Yuvi could have picked that exact shade just on coincidence. Aditi looked confused now too, knowing too well that it was a really rare colour and didn’t seem to be a situational choice either.

Just as Aditi was beginning to consider asking Twinkle if Kunj had known of her choice of colours, because of course Kunj had to have accompanied Yuvi to buy Twinkle a dress, they heard the door open and in walked yet another woman Twinkle had never seen before. “Aditi, you should just let that brooch be now, I can’t find it! I’m sorry.” The woman said, and Aditi sighed, evidently struggling with a smile. “Who is this?” She asked, flashing a warm smile in Twinkle’s direction. “Oh, I forget that you two never met! Twinkle, this is Mumma.” Aditi said quickly, appreciating the change of topic. Twinkle greeted Aditi’s mother, whom she had heard enough about already but never met since she lived far away, only to be responded to with another equally nice smile and a “Twinkle…? The one Kunj and you had been discussing on the phone late last night when I had to force you to go to sleep?”

(Connect the dots people!! Did we see something that could have something to do with this in the previous episode? Alright, that’s all the clues you’re getting :P)

Twinkle’s eyes flittered between the two women alternatively as Aditi gulped, trying to think of a believable explanation to that even as she threw her mother annoyed looks. “Oh my God, Mumma! You made that sound so bad! Kunj was only telling me about how well you handled all the work here, Twinkle.” Aditi said as soon as the idea crossed her mind. Twinkle threw both of them one last glance before nodding. “You should change into that quickly, right here. Please? I can’t wait to see how great it must look on you!” Aditi quipped in, pointing to the package in Twinkle’s arms. The latter accepted without any arguments, knowing that it was probably best to avoid further discussion on the issue right then.

Aditi poked her mother in the arm when she was sure Twinkle had shut the door to the dressing room. “Mumma!” She whined in a whisper, making her mother throw her arms up in surrender. “I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to be saying that!” She whispered back, adding as an after-thought, “I assumed she knew already!” Aditi laughed a little at that, realizing how obvious her conversation with Kunj must have been if her mother had caught on so quickly. “She will know when the time is right. I trust Yuvi with this. But Mumma, when did you start enjoying gossip? What is wrong with you?” Aditi started off in a low voice, but ended in cheerful chirping.

“Stop that. There is nothing wrong with me! But there has to be something wrong with you, Aditi! You’re marrying Yuvraj Luthra of all people? Isn’t he the same guy that you used to be annoyed about all the time when you were new here?” The older woman pointed out, clearly teasing. Aditi rolled her eyes, opining “It’s been so long since that, Mumma. Absolutely everything has changed since then!” She smiled as she watched her mother laugh at that. “Apparently an easy jump for you, huh?” Her mother asked, helping her with the veil. “For me, it was. Not for Yuvi though. He had to keep trying for two whole years for me to even speak one full sentence that wasn’t a part of an argument with him!” Aditi reminisced, both of them smiling fondly at the memories.

“Poor child, that one.” She heard her mother comment and shook her head violently. “It’s an even easier jump for you, isn’t it, Mumma? Look at you – switching sides from mine to Yuvi’s in a split second!” She complained, pretending not to melt when her mother dropped a loving peck on her forehead. “Of course, my son-in-law is a gem! But on a serious note, Aditi, you’ve got to remember that here on, the two of you are on the same side, no matter who is on the other side. I know you’ve been together for quite some time now, but marriage is going to be different. Difficult at some points even. It is who you are marrying that will make it all worth it.”

Twinkle hadn’t meant to overhear any of that conversation, but she was just 30 feet away and heard everything minus the initial muffled arguments. She sighed, her mind tricking her into recalling the days when she had shared an equally beautiful bond with her own mother, only until she was jolted back into the present when that fateful night’s arguments flashed before her eyes. She willed herself to put on her best smile and step out into the room, where both mother and daughter were more than happy to see her, so unlike how things would have been had they been her own mother and sister – she couldn’t help the thought.

She had just gotten downstairs and looking for Maya to make sure there hadn’t been any issues with their work, when she spotted Kunj instead. She felt a wave of confused emotions run through her, what with the disappointment he himself had caused, Yuvi’s hope inducing talk the previous night, followed by how things seemed to only spiral after that. She waved at him despite it all, not willing to come off as rude. At least yet.

Kunj hoped he didn’t appear as smitten as he felt at the sight. She looked surreal in the Salwar suit he had chosen for her, and he suddenly didn’t know what to do with himself. Twinkle, on the other hand, thought this was weird and decided to ask him right away. He only began to panic more when she began walking his way though. “Calm down, damn it! She’ll definitely think you’re a weirdo Kunj Sarna! So much for acting not in love for all these days!” He told himself, managing a decent smile by the time she had gotten to him. “Hi!” She said, and he blinked again, figuring out that she probably had been forced to put on a little makeup by Aditi, and dang it, if she didn’t pull it off so well!

“Hi dress! That lovely looks Twinkle on you!” He blurted out when she gave him a scrutinizing gaze for his silence, and it only confused her some more. “That’s one way of complimenting people, I guess. Thanks, Kunj!” She said with a chuckle when she had figured out his jumbled sentences. He shut his eyes in embarrassment, making her laugh some more. And making him stare lovingly some more. “Alright! I think the dress looks lovely on you, Twinkle. Better?” He corrected himself in a very matter-of-fact way, making Twinkle suspect something. “I take it that you had something to do with making this choice?” She asked, and he looked taken aback. “You’ve caught me! How did you know though? Magic?” He asked, not even trying to hide the surprise he felt. “A good magician never reveals his tricks.” She stated, before quickly thanking him again for the dress and walking away.

Once the ceremonies had begun, none of them had any spare time at all, and Twinkle found herself mostly running to and fro between the bride and groom’s quarters for most of it. She just stood and breathed deeply when she saw Aditi take her seat next to Yuvi in the mandap later, feeling a weird sense of belonging and peace at how well everything had turned out. She smiled at Kunj teasing the couple for something that she couldn’t hear from so far, but their expressions made it all crystal clear. Perhaps this was what she used to love so much about weddings – there was so much joy everywhere, it always made her feel so much better. But again, she hadn’t attended any wedding in over two years now, and this was her best friend’s wedding so it was bound to feel way more special.

“They are too cute, aren’t they?” She heard Kunj’s voice from right beside her as he eyed Yuvi and Aditi, making her jump up. She hadn’t seen him leave Yuvi’s side and get there at all. “Made for each other. Absolutely meant to be!” She responded. Before either of them could say anything else though, Kunj was shoved against her by a loud group of guys, who only turned out to be Kunj and Yuvi’s friends getting too excited at seeing Kunj. They had however, allowed Twinkle and Kunj to have a moment that felt like eternity to them, so close to each other that Kunj was worried she would hear his frantically beating heart. Neither moved at all initially, each surprising the other. But then Kunj was pulled away by his friends, and Twinkle let out the breath that she didn’t even know she was holding in. She had to learn to behave normal in front of him!

“Twinkle, right?” She heard a voice on her other side just a moment later, and she turned to see an apparently rich girl, roughly as old as her, watching her disapprovingly. “Yes.” She answered, sounding unsure of herself. The woman intimidated her, for a reason she didn’t know. Yet. “The one in charge of the food?” The stranger asked. This time Twinkle simply nodded, wondering this was a complaint about the food. “And you think you stand a chance with Kunj Sarna?” Twinkle now turned to face her fully, watching her uncomfortably. “Did you think all that waving from across the room and trying to be all flirty with him went totally unnoticed? I’m his fiancé, Tanisha. Usha Sarna approves of me, which she doesn’t of you. Isn’t that enough to keep you away?” The woman said. Twinkle’s eyes widened as she tried to process the information she had just heard.

That’s it for now, guys. Do you all hate me yet? 😛 I know, this last bit was totally unexpected and it brought so much disappointment! Please do let me know how you liked the rest of the episode at least, please? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Lots of love!!
