Twinj: When I fell for you: Episode 23

A quick recap: Twinkle and Kunj’s decision to become friends forgetting their past revealed, Alisha’s accident, Leela and Yuvi’s decision of taking Alisha to the Taneja mansion.

Taneja mansion.
Yuvi’s room.
“Bhaiyu… What on Earth made you agree to bring that devil here?” Twinkle asked Yuvi, while Amaya chuckled.
“What?” She questioned Amaya, being agitated. Amaya simply nodded in a no.
Twinkle now went to Yuvi and shook him. “Will you tell me something?” She asked.
“Twinkle, calm down. I’ve thought on these lines before bringing her here. If she’s come back suddenly after two and a half years, I thought she wouldn’t give up so easily after being sent away once. The only sure way we have of knowing if she’s actually changed or this is some big filthy plan of hers, is to observe her…” He explained.

Twinkle nodded thoughtfully. That’s when the rest of their gang walked in.
“Hey! You could have told us about this too. Anyways, now that we know, we’ll spy on the devil” Rahul said, air-quoting, while the rest laughed. Aman looked on confused, he didn’t know how much they could trust his stupid sister.

They all sat around the baby and played with her for a long time.
As they were about to leave, Chinki told Twinkle that she had left something for her on her bedside table, and she had better look at it soon.
Twinkle rushed to her room, anxious, and was taken aback to find Alisha there, looking for something.
“Twinkle, I was actually..” she began defending herself.

“You are unbelievable Alisha! You have been brought into this house since you are unwell despite everything you have done, but you?” Twinkle roared at her.
“You have mistaken me Twinkle. I was just looking for my phone, which Leela aunty said she had kept here, and see I found it” she said innocently.
Twinkle simply stared at her, unable to decide if she was honest or acting, while Alisha left the room after giving her a smile. She went and sat down on her bed, opening the envelope that Chinki had left for her.

“Twinkle, open this when you are calm, and don’t worry about all this now since it’s all a matter of the past..” it read.
She opened it and found some photos in it. They were some of the many pictures that Twinj had clicked on their dates. She wondered why Chinki was handing them over to her after everything had ended. She guessed they might have been the very pictures that Alisha had brought that day to reveal their relationship.

Twinkle looked at each picture for a long time, recalling their moments of happiness. That’s when Kunj walked in. She quickly hid the pictures under the pillow, and asked him to take a seat. However, he had seen her holding those pictures, and soon managed to distract her and get them from her.

Later that day,
“Bhai, I’m sure she still loves me…” Kunj spoke dreamily to Yuvi and Aman, narrating how he had found his and Twinkle’s photos in her hands, and how she had been looking at them lovingly.
Yuvi and Aman smiled gladly, after all, they had seen the love birds suffer the pain of separation for the past two and a half years. They knew what they had to do now.

In the evening, Kunj was leaving for his concert, and Twinkle was going with him as usual. Everyone wished Kunj luck, and sent them. It had become a regular event for them to watch Kunj’s concerts on TV rather than go to the venue and bear the crazy crowd, and that day was no different. Besides Twinkle always went along to handle anything that went wrong.

In the car, however, there was a weird silence of awkwardness that day. The regular anxious conversation between the two was missing. Instead, awkward silence prevailed for a long time.
“All ok?” Both of them asked at the same time, making things more weird.
“So…?” Twinkle asked, after a long time. She couldn’t tolerate the deadening silence anymore.

“Can I, I mean, if you don’t mind, can I ask you a question?” Kunj asked, finally deciding to voice the thoughts that were disturbing him for a long time.
“Come on Kunj! We are best buddies! You don’t need my permission to ask me anything..” she assured.
“Do you think….. that we could have…. given our relationship another chance…? I mean…. We both know it wasn’t meant to end like that…” He asked, realising that there had been absolutely no conversation on this topic after that night.
“I… What do you mean…” She hesitantly spoke.
“I just wanted to know… if you think of it this way or not….”

“You have no idea Kunj! Have I thought of it? I thought of it always… It was almost the only thing on my mind.. I could never forgive myself for all that happened… There wasn’t a single moment when I didn’t regret tearing us apart…. Not a single moment when I didn’t wish to run back into your arms… Not a single moment when I regretted falling for you…” She thought, but like always, she just thought, staring at him, tears filling in her eyes. He too was looking at her quietly, as if trying to read her mind, when suddenly she pulled the stearing towards her side, and he applied the brakes, just in time to save themselves from another car that sped past them.

Kunj leaned on to Twinkle due to the sudden jerk. They felt awkward, they had never been so close to each other for a long time. The intimacy was making them forget all the obstacles between them. Kunj cupped her face, and leaned closer finishing the distance between them, when his phone rang. They pulled away from each other, and Kunj resumed driving, noticing that the manager of the concert was calling him.

They soon reached the venue, and got off the car, and walked towards the event organisers, hand in hand, like they always did, mostly to avoid getting separated in the crowd, though awkwardness prevailed after the recent happenings. Soon the sound engineers came to usher Kunj to check out the arrangements, while Twinkle held on to his hand, not letting go.
“All the best!” She whispered in his ear, “Don’t let anything distract you…” she advised, knowing his mind would be like a whirlwind right then. He smiled at her, and left for the stage.
Twinkle watched from the wings, as usual, and totally enjoyed each single bit of his performance.

On the way back home, they were chatting excitedly about the crowd and the varied reactions.
“It was all your fault” Twinkle said, when a silence had prevailed.
“Are you serious? You think I had an option? You said you know everything. So you should as well know I had no option other than playing along with Alisha…” Kunj defended himself.
“I was talking about the accident we almost had…” Twinkle replied, looking away, knowing what he was thinking. But she didn’t want to go back to that point, lest she should lose control over her emotions again.

The rest of the journey passed in absolute silence.

Twinj looked forward aimlessly, recalling everything all over again, wondering how they could ruin things into such a huge blunder, their hearts quarrelling with their minds…
