TV Sensation Rati Pandey Breaks Stereotypes with Bhojpuri Film Debut: Rang De Basanti Promises Quality Over Controversy

Renowned for her roles in popular TV shows like “Hitler Didi,” “Miley Jab Hum Tum,” and “Porus,” Rati Pandey is set to make a significant debut in Bhojpuri cinema with the film “Rang De Basanti.” In a departure from the trend where many aspire to enter Hindi films, Rati reveals her long-standing desire to contribute to her native region in Bhojpuri, aiming to challenge and transform the prevailing negative perception of Bhojpuri cinema.

As a proud Bihari, Rati acknowledges the challenges associated with Bhojpuri cinema, often stereotyped for its perceived low quality and explicit content. She shares, “Unfortunately, the perception of Bhojpuri cinema among people, especially within our fraternity, isn’t positive. It’s mostly associated with shady and cheaply shot songs. I understand the skepticism because some have perpetuated this stereotype, and I want to debunk this myth.”

Rati candidly admits her initial apprehension about accepting the Bhojpuri film offer, questioning the presence of vulgarity or inappropriate scenes. However, after witnessing the dedication and commitment of the filmmaking team, she became convinced of their intention to produce a quality film, a key reason for casting her.

Addressing concerns about on-screen intimacy, Rati emphasizes her openness to depicting such scenes with grace, provided they serve a genuine purpose in the script and are shot aesthetically. She stresses the importance of content being family-friendly, expressing, “If watching content with my family makes me cringe, I won’t be a part of it. It should be a genuine requirement of the script, shot aesthetically, and not introduced merely to titillate or grab eyeballs.”

Rati Pandey’s foray into Bhojpuri cinema with “Rang De Basanti” not only marks a personal milestone but also signals a shift towards promoting quality content in the regional film industry, challenging preconceived notions and stereotypes.
