Tu Meri Pehalwan ~ A VeeRat Tale – Episode 5

Feeling Betrayed

The episode starts with everyone standing shocked on hearing Santhosh’s announcement. Jabyot enquires her, “What happened Santhosh ji? What are you stopping the Roka?” Santhosh tells her, “What happened? I think you should ask this question to your grandson, Veer!” Everyone looks towards Veer. Veer stood silent without making out what was happening.” Akaal, “Santhosh ji, I think even Veer doesn’t know what you are talking about, please explain to us what you want to say.” Santhosh goes towards Veer and tells everyone, “Akaal ji, Jabyot ji your grandson Veer is a drug addict!” All were thunderstruck to hear that. The invited guests mumble among themselves while the media films the entire happenings. Sahiba looked towards Angad who gave an equally confused expression like others. Jabyot comes towards Santhosh and tells her, “No no, Santhosh ji, I think you have a misunderstanding. Our Veer is the most kindest and diligent among all my grandchildren. He can’t be a drug addict.” Gurleen affirms, “Yes Santhosh ji, my Veer can’t be a drug addict.” Santhosh, “Jabyot ji, Gurleen ji, I have proofs to confirm the truth”, Santhosh opens her phone gallery, plays a video saved in the gallery and shows it to everyone. It was the video of Veer revealing his truth to Keerat, however Keerat is not shown in the video. Everyone was floored seeing Veer’s confession in the video. Santhosh continues, “Now why is your Veer speechless? Ask him to reveal infront of everyone that this video is fake and I’m wrong.” Jabyot goes towards Veer and tells him, “Veer puttar, tell Santhosh ji that she has a misunderstanding, that all this is someone’s evil ploy against you. Tell her that you are not a drug user.” Veer embarrassingly looks away without being able to meet Jabyot’s eyes. Jabyot and the Brars were astonished at his silence. Santhosh “Khamoshi da samjhota Jabyot ji, your grandson’s silence proves that I’m right. Now tell me how can I let my daughter marry a drug addict? Gurleen ji, you too have a daughter right? Tell me, will you ever let your Ekam marry a drug abuser like your son?” Gurleen’s eyes filled with tears, avoids eye contact with Santhosh, unable to digest the truth of her son. Angad comes forward and slaps Veer. All get astonished, while Angad continues to Veer, “We never expected this from you Veer. Now I’m ashamed to call you my brother. Having said that, I can never let Keerat’s life get ruined by binding her in a relationship with you!” Veer doesn’t retaliate or respond to any of the repercussions hurled against him. Keerat feeling bad for Veer comes forward and tries to pacify Santhosh saying, “Mummy, mummy please shant ho jayiye!” Santhosh shouts at her asking, “Kya shant hona hai Keerat? This is a matter of your life! Akaal ji and Jabyot ji had promised us that they will ensure you a good living in their family and this is how they keep their promise? By getting you married to their drug abuser grandson?” Veer dejected with those words, tries to justify his family explaining, “Aunty I know you are disappointed after learning my truth, but trust me, my family knew nothing about my drug abuse. Please don’t insult them.” Santhosh continues, “Fine, your family didn’t know your truth, but what about you? Why did you even agree for this marriage when you knew my daughter’s life will be ruined by marrying a drug abuser like you?” Veer looks towards Keerat, both remember the instance where Veer had revealed his truth. Keerat is about to disclose that she was already aware of Veer’s truth but before that Santhosh shows her hand silencing her.” Santhosh then turns towards Akaal, Jabyot and joins her hands saying, “Akaal ji, Santhosh ji, we feel grateful that you bought your grandson’s proposal for our daughter; but I’m sorry to say that our daughter is not a burden for us that we will marry her off to a drug abuser like your grandson. Our daughter is our pride and we will not let our pride be broken.” Ajit comes towards Sathosh joins his hands and says, “I agree with my wife Akaal ji, Jabyot ji” Within a second, Santhosh catches Keerat’s hand and takes her away with her, Ajit follows. Keerat while taken away kept gazing apologetically at a completely hurt Veer; the latter reciprocated with a sad gaze. In a short while, the guests too leave badmouthing the Brar family. The media encircles the Brars flooding them with questions about drugs peddling, drugs abuse and drugs mafia. Angad, Inder and Hansraj try to handle the media and send them out of the Brar mansion instructing them that this is a family matter although the media constantly tried to collect information from them. When the Brars were left alone, Jabyot cries saying, “Today we wanted to celebrate our grandson’s engagement and look, what has happened? Where did we go wrong Akaal ji that our grandson turned into a drug addict?” On saying that Jabyot collapses and falls. All the Brars run towards her, however as Veer approaches, Akaal signs him not to come near Jabyot. Veer stops himself. The other Brar family members take Jabyot to her room, while Angad calls the doctor. Veer looks on sorrowfully while his family disregards him completely.

Monga House

Santhosh still holding onto Keerat’s hand brings her inside. Sukhi comes there and asks, “What happened why are you all looking so tensed? Santhosh furiously says, “We broke Veer and Keerat’s engagement!” Sukhi was stunned and asks them, “Broke the engagement? But why?” Ajit, “Beeji, the Brars son, Veer turned out to be a drug addict.” Sukhi was taken aback. Santhosh continues furiously, “Can’t believe the Brars were so careless about their grandson even though they are such a huge family. That boy didn’t leave even a trace of his truth to come out in front of his family.” Keerat, “Mummy, he was just trying to protect his family, nothing else.” Santhosh, “How do you know that?” Keerat, “Because he had already revealed his truth to me.” The Mongas’ eyes bugged out on hearing that. Santhosh, “What? You already knew the truth then why didn’t you inform any of us?” Keerat, “Mummy, because Veer did not want his truth to come out in front of his family because he felt his family would not be able to handle his truth and what was wrong in that?” Santhosh, “What was wrong in that? He was so concerned about his family but what about you? He was ready to risk your life?” Keerat, “No Mummy, you are misunderstanding him. If he wanted to jeopardize with my life then he wouldn’t have told me his truth at the first place.” Santhosh snapped at her saying, “Chup kar! Enough of taking his side. You are not going to get married to him anymore so I don’t want you to keep any relationship with him from now onwards. Understood?” Keerat felt a piercing pain in her heart which she couldn’t make out. All these days, she only wanted to break her relationship with Veer but now when her relationship had really ended, she was unable to understand why she felt really low about it. She wondered anxiously, “What must be going on with Veer now?”

Brar Mansion, Akaal and Jabyot’s room

The doctor examines Jabyot and informs the Brars, “Her blood pressure shot up all of a sudden which is why she collapsed. Did she see or hear anything unpleasant today?” The Brars stood silent giving angry glares at Veer. The doctor continues, “I will prescribe some medicines which will keep her blood pressure stable but you have to ensure that she doesn’t undergo any more stressful situations once again.” The family gives their nod. The doctor leaves. After the doctor leaves, Veer filled with remorse and guilt tries to approach Jabyot. However, Angad stops him saying, “You have already given her a huge blow today. Don’t make things more difficult for all of us.” Veer half-heartedly agrees. Akaal tells everyone that he is there with Jabyot, so the others should leave and take rest. Sahiba expresses that she would like to stay with Daarji and Bebe tonight, just in case they need any help. Akaal agrees. The other family members gradually leave with only Veer left behind. Akaal instructs him that he too should go and take rest. Veer leaves with a heavy heart. As he walks towards his room, he comes near Gurleen and Jaspal’s room and hears voices. Gurleen weeping bitterly inside, “Jaspal ji, Veer was the apple of my eye, I never thought that our son will turn into a drug addict!” She hugs Jaspal and sobs uncontrollably on saying that. Veer feeling regretful tries to go inside and console his mother however Jaspal shouts at him, “Halt right there!” Veer stops at their doorstep. Jaspal comes near Veer and is about to close the door when Veer pleads with him, “Papa aap ek baar mere baat toh sunn lo.” Jaspal tells him, “We do not want to hear anything from you. Our son is dead for us!!” on saying that Jaspal shuts the door onto Veer’s face. Tears roll down Veer’s cheeks and he staggers towards his room.

Downstairs, In the Kitchen

Sahiba comes to take a jug of water for Daarji and Bebe when Angad catches her, stops her from crying out and pushes her onto the refrigerator facing him. Sahiba asks in a soft voice, “Angad tum? Why have you brought me here?” Angad, “Because upstairs the situation is so tense with everyone shaken by the sudden turn of events today that I can hardly talk with you in front of them.” Sahiba, “You want to say something? What is it?” Angad bends down his head in front of Sahiba and says, “I’m really sorry for whatever happened today. I swear I had no idea about Veer…” Sahiba stops him by placing her finger on his lips saying, “Relax Angad! I know that you had no idea about Veer’s involvement into drugs, I trust you. Moreover, I was delighted seeing how you kept your promise today.” Angad gives a questioning expression. Sahiba, “I was happy on seeing how you prioritized my sister Keerat over your brother Veer and that elevated my admiration for you.” Angad gave Sahiba a fond look and slowly inches closer towards her lips. Sahiba immediately keeps her hand on his lips, kisses on it and goes away blushingly. Angad smirks at her from behind.

Veer’s room

Veer is seated on the bed, dishearteningly recollecting the events of that day. He remembers how Santhosh exposed his truth to everyone by playing the video of his confession to Keerat. He reflects, “I trusted you, Miss. Pehalwan and you betrayed me? How could you do this to me?”

Monga House

Keerat is tensed thinking, “I just hope Veer is alright. After all that happened today, I don’t know how the family members would be treating him. I think I should call him once.” She picks up her phone and dials Veer’s number.

Brar Mansion, Veer’s room

Veer sees Keerat’s call, angrily disconnects it and blocks her number.

Monga House

Keerat tries to call Veer several times and realizes that he has blocked her number. She thinks despondently, “No matter how hard you try to ignore me, I will talk to you Veer.”

Next day morning

The Brars were having their breakfast with everyone neglecting Veer when they heard a lot of noises coming from outside. One of their servants comes running there and informs, “Akaal Sahab, our main gate is flooded with media reporters associating our name with drugs mafia.” Everyone turns their heads towards Veer glaring at him. Kiara runs towards the television, switch it on and keeps a news channel which reports about the Brars’ son, Veer’s involvement in drugs. Kiara switches to another channel which accuses the Brars of smuggling drugs along with their diamonds. She again switches the channel which accuses, Veer who is known as the youth icon of Punjab is misleading the youth by inspiring them to use drugs. Kiara keeps switching to various other news channels and every news channel reported and defamed the Brars accusing them of their engagement in the drugs world. Hansraj comes forward, takes the remote from Kiara and switches off the television. Jaspal asks Veer, “Are you happy now? The whole family is suffering because of your mistakes.” Veer puts his head down remaining silent unable to lift his head up out of shame. Akaal shushes Jaspal saying, “It’s not his fault Jaspal, it’s our fault! We trusted in our grandson so much that we never thought that he would choose a wrong path in his life.” Following that, Akaal meekly gets up and leaves. The others follow him leaving Veer alone on the dining table. Veer looks towards the voices coming from the media outside and thinks, “All this is happening because of you, Miss. Pehalwan!”

Monga House

Keerat and the other Mongas were watching the news, tarnishing the image of Veer and the Brars while accusing them of illegal dealing of narcotics. Santhosh says, “What was the point of hiding the truth? Now that guy Veer is suffering while making his family suffer along with him.” Keerat angrily gets up and reproaches Santhosh saying, “He hid it because he did not want to hurt his family and what did you do Mummy? In one go, you destroyed all his efforts to not let his family get hurt.” Santhosh surprised, “Arre, then what should I have done? Let you get married to him?” Ajit, “Puttar, why are you talking to your Mummy ji in this manner? Whatever she did was only for your good.” Keerat, “My good? Mummy got so carried away in the love of her child that she forgot Veer is also someone’s child.” Santhosh with tears in her eyes, “So you mean to say that I was wrong to think about my daughter?” Keerat mellowed down by Santhosh’s tears, draws near Santhosh catches her hand saying, “Mummy come here. Sit here” making Santhosh sit down and herself kneels down infront of her saying, “Mummy I didn’t mean that you were wrong but the way you exposed Veer’s truth made things go haywire. Look how the Brars are facing backlash from the media and the society. Remember Sahiba di is also a part of that family and most of all what about Veer, what all he has to go through? Hatred from his family, black mark on his reputation….” Before Keerat could continue, Santhosh cuts in asking, “Why are you so worried about Veer? Is it that you have started developing…” Keerat, “What are you saying Mummy? I’m concerned for Veer on humanitarian grounds and not because of anything else.” Santhosh heaves a sigh of relief. Ajit bends down and catches Keerat’s shoulder saying, “Puttar, now leave all that. Just think whatever happened, happened for the good. You need not worry about Veer or the Brars. They will take care of their family matters themselves. Moreover, isn’t Sahiba there with them? She will handle everything. Now go to your room and take rest.” Keerat agrees and is about to go to her room when something clicks in her mind. She turns towards Santhosh and demands, “Mummy how did you get Veer’s confession video?” Santhosh recollects of receiving an anonymous call before Veer and Keerat’s Roka ceremony, the previous day. Flashback, Santhosh receives the call and rebukes the person saying, “Arre kyun baar baar call kiye jaa rahe ho. Meri beti ki Roka chal raha hai aur aap baar baar call kiye jaa rahe hai. Kya gal hai?” The person on the other side informs her, “Stop the Roka right now or your daughter’s future will be ruined.” Santhosh bewildered asks her, “What are you saying?” The person replies, “Your daughter’s fiancé Veer Singh Brar is a drug addict.” Santhosh was horrified to hear that. The person continues, “I’m sending you a video just watch it and decide what you want to do.” Santhosh was appalled after watching the video and runs to stop the Roka. Flashback ends. Santhosh shares that she doesn’t know who exactly was the anonymous caller however she could make out it was a woman. Keerat gets thinking, “I’m sure Veer assumes that I’m responsible for leaking his confession video. I have to find out who is that person and what was her reason for taking such a drastic step.”

As the days went on, the Brars were constantly humiliated infront of the society regarding Veer’s involvement into drugs which makes Veer more remorseful feeling burdened by the responsibility of letting his family suffer. To make matters worse, Veer gets banned from the Punjabi music association because of his connection with drugs which brings a great downfall on Veer’s image and career. The Punjabi youth mock and burn Veer’s idol on the road showing their hatred to their once idol Veer. Veer unable to cope up with all the hatred and defamation, succumbs completely to drugs. On the other hand, Keerat tries several means to contact Veer, however the latter shuns all doors towards Keerat. Keerat doesn’t give up and finally comes up with an idea to meet Veer.

A few days later

Veer receives a call where the person informs him, “Sir we are calling from Punjab’s woman’s wrestling association. We would like you to sing a promotional song for the upcoming wrestling event.” Veer was surprised and asks, “You want me to sing your promotional song even after knowing about all the scams and controversies I’m involved in?” The person on phone, “Sir we do not care about all that, we just care about your voice.” Veer although skeptical asks, “Are you sure you want me to sing?” The person on phone, “Yes sir we are hundred percent sure.” Veer gives in, “I will sing for your event.” The person delightfully informs him to come to the Punjab’s women’s wrestler association the following day at 10 am. Veer accepts.

Next day, Punjab’s women’s wrestling association

Veer comes there at 10 AM and was startled to find no-one there. He gets thinking, “That man had asked me to come to this address then why is this place empty with no-one around? He is about to return but as he turns, he faces Keerat standing face-to-face with him. Veer gets enraged on seeing her however tries to leave disregarding her, when she informs him, “I was the one who asked that man to call you and make you come here.” Veer fumes on hearing that and asks her, “Wasn’t all that you had done to me enough? That you are trying to hurt me even more?” Keerat, “That is what I’m trying to explain to you all these days. I wasn’t the one who leaked your video. She shows him the video and tries to clarify things to him, when he takes her phone and tells her, “I don’t want to listen to anything and why should I even listen to you, there’s nothing left between us!!” He turns to go when she announces to him, “Fine then I challenge you to fight a wrestling match with me. If you win then I will never bother you again and if I win then you have to listen to my part of the story.” Veer, “What rubbish? I don’t want to fight any wrestling match.” He turns around again to leave when Keerat recalls their first encounter during Sahan’s marriage, remembers something and shouts out, “Are you scared of losing to a woman?” Veer stops himself clenches his fists hearing that. Keerat smiles seeing her plan working and thinks, “I know this much about you that you won’t let your ego get hurt, EGOISTIC SHITHEAD!!” Veer turns towards Keerat, comes near her, stands face to face and tells her, “Fine!! Challenge accepted!!” Keerat smirks.
