Tu Meri Pehalwan ~ A VeeRat Tale – Episode 2

Rab ne banayi jodi

The episode starts with Ajit and Santhosh standing dumfounded after hearing Akaal’s request. Ajit folds his hands and tells Akaal, “Akaal ji, Santhosh and I are the luckiest parents in this world that despite our middle class background you asked the hand of our second daughter for your elder grandson Angad Singh Brar. But now, you are asking for our younger daughter’s hand? Haven’t we told you that our eldest daughter is still unmarried? In that case, how can we get our youngest daughter married? What will people say about our Seerat? They will surely make stories that there is something wrong with our Seerat that her two younger sisters got married before her.” Akaal, “I understand your worries Ajit ji but haven’t you said that your eldest daughter is very ambitious and would not like to get married until she establishes her career? In that case, wouldn’t it be alright if you get your other daughter married?” Ajit and Santhosh were still not convinced. Akaal continues, “Ajit ji, Santhosh ji, I promise that once your eldest daughter returns to Punjab, I will take the full responsibility of her marriage but you both should promise me that you will surely think about what I said.” Santhosh, “Akaal Saheb, it’s a great honor for us to get our daughters married into your family but we still need time to decide. Moreover, our Keerat is too young. She has not even completed her college and she too has big ambitions. She wants to become a wrestler. Do you think she will be able to gel into your family?” Jabyot, “Santhosh ji, you need not worry at all about Keerat’s well-being in our family. We have raised our grandsons with good values of culture and manners. I’m sure our Veer will win your heart just the same way our Angad did.” Ajit and Santhosh were still skeptical. Jabyot continues, “Ajit ji, Santhosh ji, We understand it is a very difficult decision to take as it is concerned with the life of your daughter but trust me, your daughter Keerat will have a blissful married life in our family.” Santhosh and Ajit looked on. Just then, Inder called Akaal and Jabyot saying, “Papaji, Mummyji, what are you both doing? It is getting late for Sahiba’s grahpravesh rasam, let’s go.” Akaal signs them that they are coming and turns again towards Santhosh and Ajit saying, “Santhosh ji, Ajit ji, Take as much time as you need to decide after all it’s related to your daughter’s future however I insist not to discuss about this with Keerat or anyone else in your or our family right now. We shall present it to our families only if you are alright in going forward with this proposal.” After saying that, Akaal and Jabyot take leave. Santhosh and Ajit were still lost in thoughts when Keerat comes and hugs Santhosh telling her parents, “Mummy, Papa are you sad that Sahiba di is now married and is a part of Brar family? Don’t worry she has got a perfect life partner in Angad jiju and perfect in-laws in the Brars. I’m sure they will always keep Sahiba di happy.” Santhosh and Ajit smile and embrace their daughter affectionately. Sukhi comes there and seeing Ajit, Santhosh, Keerat together wards off the evil sight from them saying, “Nazar na lage!!” She then continues to Santhosh, “Sahiba is really lucky that she got Angad and Brar family, now just pray to Rab that your other two daughters too get a good family like Sahiba’s.” Santhosh reminisces Akaal and Jabyot’s words (Rab Aap Hi Ishq Ugawe, Rab Aap Hi Ishq Mitawe..…. Teri Meri Doriyaan continues to play in the background).

Night time, Brar Mansion, Sahiba and Angad’s bedroom

Sahiba is seated on the bed dressed beautifully in an off-white colored salwar with its duppata drapped around her head. She nervously fiddled her fingers and glanced every second towards the door waiting anxiously for the impending. Soon, Angad enters the room cautiously. Sahiba instantly gets up seeing him. Angad comes near Sahiba and makes out the latter’s anxiety. He inches closer towards her; Sahiba’s heart beats start racing faster. Angad comes closer to Sahiba such that she could feel his breath, she leans backward closing her eyes. Finally, Angad leans forward and takes the pillow and bedsheet kept beside her and goes towards the small divan placed a few metres away from the bed. Sahiba opens her eyes and was surprised to see Angad’s actions. She asks him, “What are you doing, Angad?” Angad, “Giving you time and space.” Sahiba, “Huh?” Angad, “Look, first of all, it’s not like I don’t trust my Darji and Bebe’s choice of life-partner for me but ours is an arranged marriage where we hardly had time spent with each other before marriage, so I believe that we need time and space to know and understand each other before taking our relationship forward.” Sahiba’s eyes were filled with tears of joy, on hearing Angad’s words. She hastily comes forward and hugs Angad tightly placing her head on his chest. Angad was taken aback on feeling Sahiba’s warmth on his bosom and was tempted to reciprocate, however he controls himself. Sahiba emotionally tells him, “Thank you Angad. Thank you so much for trying to understand me.” Angad catches Sahiba’s shoulders, pulls her facing him, makes her sit comfortably on the bed and says, “You are my wife now Sahiba. It is my responsibility to take care of your likes and dislikes. Are you missing home?” Sahiba slowly wipes her tears and tells him, “Which newly married girl wouldn’t miss her home? The place where she was born, the place where she grew up and the place where she made fond memories. ” Angad, “What do you miss the most about your home?” Sahiba gets thinking and tells him, “Being the middle sister made me close to both my sisters, Seerat Di and Keerat. Both were more close to me than with each other. They shared all their secrets and desires to me first before anyone else in the family. Now, realizing that I have to live a life without them, makes me miss them even more.” Angad takes Sahiba’s hand into his, places them in Sahiba’s lap and tells her, “Then why don’t we bring your sisters too to Brar Mansion?” Sahiba was perplexed.

Monga House, Santhosh and Ajit’s bedroom

Ajit enters and sees Santhosh seated on the bed lost in thoughts. He senses Santhosh’s apprehension and tells her, “Are you still pondering about what Akaal Saheb and Jabyot ji said after Sahiba’s bidaai?” Santhosh, “How can I not think about that when it is related to our daughters’ lives?” Ajit, “What do you think we should do? Should we get Keerat too married into the Brars’ family?” Santhosh, “A ji, what are you saying? We just set the doli for Sahiba and you are already thinking of doing the same for Keerat? Keerat is still young and what about our Seerat?” Ajit trying to calm her down, “Santhosh, they are your daughters. Don’t you trust in them? Keerat is not that young, that she cannot get married and take the responsibility of a family and Seerat, don’t you remember what she said? Right now, she wants to focus only and only on her career? You just wait and watch, once our Seerat returns, there will be a line of suitors for her.” Santhosh,“Then what about our Keerat and her dreams? Don’t you know that she wants to become a wrestler?” Ajit, “Santhosh!! Didn’t we worry in the same way for Sahiba? At that moment, Angad put our worries to rest by promising that he would support Sahiba’s dreams and career. Didn’t Akaal Saheb and Jabyot ji assure us that they gave the same values to all their grandchildren? I’m sure Veer will also support our Keerat in the same way.” Santhosh was still not completely convinced. Ajit tells her, “Now leave all that and take rest, it was a long day for us. You just put your trust on Babaji and inform him about your worries. I’m sure he will show you the right way out.” Santhosh looks on.

Brar Mansion, Angad and Sahiba’s bedroom

Sahiba was puzzled hearing Angad’s words and asks him, “What do you mean Angad? How can I bring my sisters too to Brar mansion?” Angad, “What I mean to say is that you have two sisters and I have six siblings of which three of them are brothers. Barring Prince, there’s Garry and Veer who too are of marriageable age. So wouldn’t it be nice if your sisters get married to my brothers?” Sahiba’s eyes grew big in amazement. Angad continued, “Look I know marriage is a big decision and it should be taken by the partners themselves but after meeting you and getting to know about, I feel that your sisters will make a perfect match for my brothers.” A smile passes through Sahiba’s face, she playfully keeps her finger on Angad’s top button and leans closer to him asking, “Well how well do you know me?” Angad gets nervous and starts stammering, “Sahi….Sahib…Sahiba…”, he gets up immediately saying, “Sahiba, I know that you are a really nice girl and I’m sure your sisters will also be like you which is why I want them as my brothers’ wives. Besides, won’t it be also good for you to get to live with your sisters in the Brar family?” Sahiba reflects for a moment and tells him, “See Angad, uniting two individuals in a marriage is not in our hands. It’s purely in Rab’s hands. We can only follow Rab’s signs and instructions, so let’s just leave everything in Rab’s hands. If Rab has connected my sisters’ strings (doris) with your brothers then they will surely come to Brar mansion, otherwise whatever happens, will happen for the good.” (Rab Aap Hi Ishq Ugawe, Rab Aap Hi Ishq Mitawe..….Khud Baandhi Hai Uss Rab Ne Hai Teri Meri Doriyaan Rab Aap Hi Ishq Ugawe, Rab Aap Hi Ishq Mitawe song plays in the background ) Angad was stunned with Sahiba’s words of wisdom, he wanted to hug her tightly and kiss her, however he stopped himself.” Sahiba continues “I think it’s quite late now, we should sleep.” Angad nods and goes towards the divan, arranges it and gradually lies on it. Sahiba on the other hand, lies on the bed. The two keep stealing glances of each other, until they close their eyes and eventually sleep (Teri Meri Doriyaan plays in the background).

As the days pass by, Sahiba impresses everyone in the Brar family including Angad with her kindness and talents. Manbeer and Inder thank Akaal and Jabyot for choosing Sahiba as their daughter-in-law. Both Akaal and Jabyot felt proud in their decision but somewhere deep in their hearts they anticipated to know what decision Ajit and Santhosh had made about their proposal.

A few days after Sahan’s marriage, Gurdwara

Santhosh is seen prostrating in front of the Guru Granth Sahib. Someone had placed yellow marigold flowers near Guru Granth Sahib as a part of their offering. Sahiba prayed in her heart, “What should I do Babaji? My mind is confused. Is Veer the right life-partner for my Keerat? Please show me some sign Babaji. Just as she was praying, a flower kept near the Guru Granth Sahib rolls downwards towards her. (Rab Aap Hi Ishq Ugawe, Rab Aap Hi Ishq Mitawe..….Khud Baandhi Hai Uss Rab Ne Hai Teri Meri Doriyaan Rab Aap Hi Ishq Ugawe, Rab Aap Hi Ishq Mitawe song plays in the background ) Santhosh was amazed and kept staring at the Guru Granth Sahib in confused thoughts. While, Santhosh was still baffled, her phone starts beeping, she sees that it was a call from Jabyot. She kept gazing at the Guru Granth Sahib. (Rab Aap Hi Ishq Ugawe, Rab Aap Hi Ishq Mitawe..…. Teri Meri Doriyaan continues to play in the background)

A day later, Brar Mansion, All family members were seated for breakfast

Sahiba is busy serving hot gobhi parathas for everyone. Hansraj asks, “Sahiba, I agree that you make really tasty gobhi parathas but why are you making them every other day? Is it your favorite?” Prabhyot teasingly tells him, “Not exactly her favorite but someone else’s favorite!!” Everyone laugh while Angad and Sahiba turn red. Kiara adds, “Not just gobhi ki parathe phuphaji, Sahiba pabhi has also made Angad paaji’s favorite phirni today.” Everyone continue to laugh while Sahiba and Angad gave shyful glances at each other. Manbeer continues, “I must say, Sahiba learnt all of Angad’s likes and dislikes within a few days. We are blessed to have her as our daughter-in-law.” Gurleen, “You are right Parjayiji! I wish I too get a daughter-in-law like Sahiba but it’s no use, my son Veer rejects every girl’s proposal, I bring for him.” Veer continues to gulp his food giving her no notice while Akaal and Jabyot gave mischievous looks at each other. Soon, Akaal shushes everyone saying, “I want to announce something to all of you.” All the heads turn towards him.

Scene shifts to Monga House

Keerat is hurrying for college as she is getting late. She comes to the breakfast table rolls few parathas in a silver foil and tells everyone, “Mummyji, Papaji, Beeji I’m leaving, I have an important class and I’m already late!!” Ajit stops her saying, “Wait Keerat, we have something more important than your class to discuss with you.” Keerat turns around being surprised.

Scene shifts to Brar Mansion

Angad, “What is it Daarji, is it anything to worry about?” Akaal continues, “Nothing to worry about but it is something related to our whole family.” Everyone looked at each other in puzzlement. Inder, “What is it Papaji? Now it is bothering all of us.” Akaal turns his head towards Gurleen and Jaspal and tells them, “Jaspal, Gurleen, just like the way I and Jabyot chose Sahiba for Angad, we have chosen Sahiba’s younger sister, Keerat for Veer.” Gurleen and Jaspal smile on hearing that while Veer’s eyes bulge out in horror.

Scene shifts to Monga House

“What is it Papaji? What is so important that you have stopped me from going to my class?” Ajit gets up, comes closer to his daughter and tells her, “Puttar, Akaal Saheb and Jabyot ji have asked your hand in marriage for their younger grandson Veer.” Keerat was astounded to hear that.
