Tu hi Nazar aata hai: Kaira fanfic by Jhanvi (episode 1)

Episode 1
Always to the rescue

As Naira entered her anatomy class that day, she knew something was going to go wrong. The past month had been so horrible for get, that she couldn’t focus on anything including her studies. And as a medical student, studying is your number 1 priority.

She had been a topper all her life. Most people born with the amount of affluence that her family had, would take it for granted that they wouldn’t have to work hard for a living. But she was different. She was not your average girl, she wasn’t average in her studies, never behaved like a girl. She was so much of a tomboy that the entire Singhania family believed that they had two sons: Naksh and Naira Singhania.

Even though the Singhanias could easily afford a Management seat for her in the best medical college, Naira wanted to prove her metal. She worked hard and scored really well in the entrance exam. But the underside of that was she had to join a medical college very far away from home. From Udaipur to Bangalore.

But today, she knew what was going to come
She knew she had done horribly and was expecting to fail by a huge margin.
As she waited for her name to be called out, her roommate sitting next to her said ‘its ok Naira. The paper was really tough.’
She looked towards Gayatri Deora. Her one source of comfort in this place so far away from home. Although, she was not the only source of comfort.
‘But Gayu, I still should have passed at least. I’m going to be such a disappointment to my parents.’

‘Are you kidding me ?…’ but she got out our anatomy professor who called my name.
‘Naira Singhania’
I went up to Rao sir as he held out my paper.
‘45%. I had expected better from you Naira. People have managed to get distinctions. What happened? Aren’t you studying?’ he asked.

This coming from Any other professor was tolerable. But Rao sir was Naira’s favorite.
She began to feel the tears forming in her eyes. She simply nodded apologetically and walked back to her desk. As she sat down, she peeked at Gayu’s paper. 73. The tears were now Welling up stronger.
The clock struck 5 in about 5 minutes and Naira fled from the class like a rat flees sway from a cat.
‘Naira!’ Gayu yelled after her. But Naira was gone.

Gayu’s first response was to call the one person she knew who could fix it.
She took out her phone and scrolled upto K.

Naira kept running. Her lungs were screaming for air. But didn’t stop until she was in her hostel room. She took out her phone and dialled the first number on her speed dial. She couldn’t call her parents because they would be disappointed. She couldn’t call Naksh Bhai because he was on a business tour. The only person she could think of was her mendak, her best friend, Karthik.
‘Hello Karthik.’
‘Oi sherni.’ he said running out of breath.
‘Are you OK? Why is your breathing so heavy?

‘Look out your window.’
Naira went to her Window and looked at the view. She lived on the fourth floor of the hostel building. The view of the trees and the greenery outside her hostel would cheer her up any day, but today nothing could make her happy.
‘What am I supposed to be looking at ?’ Naira asked.

‘Me’ he said.
At that moment, Naira looked down to see him. He was , as always, there for her.
Like Naira, Karthik Goenka was also from Udaipur. Before Naira joined her medical course, a friend of hers introduced her to Karthik. She was a mutual Friend. Over time, Nandini, their mutual friend started to feel left out with the two of them and broke her friendship with both.
Karthik was heartbroken then and Naira had consoled him back then.
Naira ran down the stairs, two steps at a time. She stopped Only when she was in his arms.

When he had become so important to her, she didn’t know. But he was her best friend, and she couldn’t live without him.
‘Hey it’s ok’ he said gently stroking the back of her head.
‘No Karthik. I’m a failure.’

Precap : Naira pours her heart to Karthik.
