CHAPTER 43 PART 2
THE NEXT MORNING
Swara entered the Maheshwari Mansion and met a surprised Sanskaar in the hall.
Sanskaar (surprised) : Swara! You, here?
Swara : Yes!
Sanskaar : But why?
AP (shocked) : Sanskaar!
Swara and Sanskaar turned to face her.
AP : Does anyone talk to their wife like that? She has come to her own house.
Swara smiled triumphantly at Sanskaar and walked past him. AP laughed and left the room.
Sanskaar ran behind Swara and stopped her.
Swara (irritated) : Kya hai? I don’t want to talk to you.
Sanskaar (confused) : You don’t?
Swara (throwing a haughty look at him) : No!
Sanskaar : But…
Laksh (emerging from the door to the right which was the library) : SWARA!
Swara (warmly) : Laksh!
Sanskaar tried not to feel bad about Swara hugging Laksh. He had no problem with their friendship. In fact, He was glad that Swara had such an amazing friend. He had Aarav, Swara had Laksh. But he was jealous. Sanskaar was so damn jealous of his brother. Laksh had such an easy friendship with Swara. He could make her laugh, feel comfortable, feel protected. Swara would always have Laksh at her back. But Sanskaar… He WANTED to be the one to make her laugh, to make her smile. He wanted to be at ease with her. But sadly, This was not to be.
Swara hugged Laksh tightly.
Swara (whispered) : Don’t worry… Am with you!
Laksh released her and smiled at her understandingly.
Laksh : Why are you here? Any special reason?
Swara (nodding) : Yes! But am not going to tell you.
Sanskaar : Not even me?
Swara and Laksh turned to look at Sanskaar. They seemed surprised that he was here. He scowled.
Sanskaar : What?
Laksh : Bhai! You’re still here?
Sanskaar : Arre! Hadd hai… Pehle madam doesn’t tell me why she’s here. Badi Ma scolds me because of madam! And now you don’t even realise I’m here, all because of her?
Laksh burst out laughing while Swara gave a sweet smile to Sanskaar.
Swara : Voh kya hai na Sanskaar… We are people with extremely good taste…
Sanskaar (indignantly) : OYE!
Laksh shook his head and excused himself, saying he had some work.
Sanskaar took Swara’s hand and pulled her towards him. He moved back until she pinned between him and the stairs banister.
Sanskaar : Kis tarah ki fiancee ho tum?
Swara (surprised) : Accha ji? Meine kya kiya?
Sanskaar ( giving out a long suffering sigh) : What haven’t you done? People are scolding me, They’re ignoring me, No one loves me anymore….
Swara smiled and chuckled. She pulled his cheeks.
Swara : You big baby! You know that everyone loves you very much…
Sanskaar : Haan.. That I do.. But someone doesn’t like me today? (raising an eyebrow)
Swara : Yes! I don’t like you today..
Sanskaar (confused) : But why?
Swara (escaping from her position and assuming her haughty expression) : That’s for me to know and you to find out!
Sanskaar (teasing tone) : Is that a challenge?
Swara : Assume what you want, Mr Maheshwari! Now, I have a mission to complete.
Sanskaar’s eyes followed Swara’s as she went up the stairs, walked through the corridor and entered Uttara’s room.
Sanskaar : Uttara? What mission does Swara have over there?

Swara (entering Uttara’s room) : Uttara! What’s the report?
Uttara (pleasantly) : Hello! Good morning! How are you? It pays to be polite, you know…
Swara : Uttara ki bacchi…. You’re just teasing me. You know how eager I am to know the report…
Uttara (innocently) : Oh really? But what if I don’t have anything to tell you?
Swara stared at Uttara for a moment, then rushed forward and began tickling her. They fell on the bed.
Uttara (laughing hysterically) : SWARAAAA! Stop…. it…
Swara : Bolo… Then I’ll stop!
Uttara : Ouch…. SWARA BHABHI!!! Shit… FINE…. FINE! I’ll tell you… Leave me.
Swara left Uttara and they sat panting.
Uttara (Admiringly) : Well played sister!
Swara (modestly) : That was nothing! Ab please bataa do…
Uttara : I snuck into Laksh’s room. He was very distracted anyways and was out most of the night. I don’t know what that was about..
Swara knew but it was not like she could tell!
Swara : Umm… I’m sure it was just one of those nights. You continue…
Uttara : I rummaged through his drawers until I found a bill for drinks.
Swara (impressed) : You actually rummaged through his things?
Uttara : Swara! You called me master for a reason… I have to live upto that na!!
Swara (chuckling) : Fair enough! Then?
Uttara : I also know that the party is going to be held in Aarav Jiju’s summer house.
Swara : How on Earth did you find that out? Seriously.. Am impressed..
Uttara : I have my ways! (seeing Swara’s look, smiling sheepishly) I heard Sanskaar talking to Adarsh.
Swara (determined) : So… Aarav’s summer house! Uttara, Text me the address… You’re the best!
She hugged her and left.
Laksh came in and laughed along with Uttara!
Laksh : Did she fall for it?
Uttara : Hook, line and slinker! She doesn’t know what’s going to hit her today!
Sanskaar entered and looked at the duo warily.
Sanskaar : What’s going on?
Laksh told him everything.
Sanskaar (chuckling) : God! That’s why she was so attitudish with me. Bechari… She has no idea what is really going to happen today.

THAT NIGHT, OUTSIDE AARAV’S SUMMER HOUSE
Ragini (hissing at Swara) : You are mad! People don’t break into their fiance’s bachelor bash.
Swara : Now they do. Ragini.. I have to find out about Kavita! Sanskaar already shields me from so much…. I’ll go mad otherwise.
Ragini : You already are… But (sighing) Ok Swara. Chalo! Let’s do this.
They gave their names to the guard and entered. As they went near the house through the garden pathway, Huge music was heard and Swara turned to Ragini…
Swara : The swine. How many people do you think are inside?
Ragini : I don’t know. We will go check!
They rang the bell and a servant opened the door for them. Swara and Ragini entered an empty room.
Swara (puzzled) : Ragini! Where is everyone?
Ragini (equally puzzled) : I have no idea…. But the music is still playing. What the hell is happening?
They moved forward and immediately spotted a music system in the next room from which the music was playing. Ragini found the remote and shut it.
Ragini : Something is wrong here. Swara, You check the upstairs. I will check the downstairs.
Swara nodded and went up the stairs. She saw many bedrooms that were empty. Finally she came into a huge room that was dark. She switched on the light and was stunned. Sanskaar stood in the middle wearing a casual white shirt with white trousers. A sky blue jacket completed his look and he was holding a bouquet of yellow tulips.
Sanskaar (beaming) : Hello!
Swara entered the room, still shocked and walked over to Sanskaar. He looked so handsome in his casual yet chic look. The room was completely decorated with flowers and there was a table for two in the middle with a stove at a corner of the room.
Swara (awe-struck) : Sanskaar?
Sanskaar (Chuckling) : My bachelor party? You’re wondering about that?
Swara nodded.
Sanskaar : I am going to marry you in two days Swara. I am really happy with that decision. And I don’t think my life will change that much after marriage. I would spend time with you than drink myself into a crazy stupor!
Swara beamed widely and accepted the beautiful bouquet that Sanskaar had gifted her. She sighed.
Sanskaar : A heart-felt sigh? Why is that?
Swara : Do you remember the first time you came home? You brought me flowers that day also. Till that time, Only Ragini had received flowers. But you brought me and Ma also. I.. (tearing up now) I never…
Sanskaar engulfed Swara into a huge hug. She held him tightly and he kissed her cheek once he released.
Sanskaar : No more crying Swara! Not today… Even if they are happy tears! Come on… We have work to do!
Swara : Work? By the way, What is all this?
Sanskaar (incredulously) : A date, Of course!
Swara : Now? One day before the wedding?
Sanskaar : Yes! We have done everything, from ziplining to karaoke to holi dance… But we haven’t done what most couples do. A candle light dinner!
Swara (smiling) : Wow! But, There is no dinner?
Sanskaar : Baby…. Even if we behave like other couples, We have to give it our own twist na..
Swara : Matlab?
Sanskaar : Matlab ki I will be cooking…
Swara (jaw dropping) : YOU COOK?
Sanskaar (chuckling) : I did live in US alone. I had to learn to cook. Why are you surprised?
Swara : Because no one told me…. Because you are SANSKAAR MAHESHWARI.. To quote Deepa’s articles : THE SUAVE HANDSOME ROGUE WHO CAN MAKE WOMEN SMOLDER! It is just hard to think that you cook…..
Sanskaar : Byhearted Deepa’s articles, Have we?
Swara blushed and helped Sanskaar cut the vegetabled while they conversed.
Swara (suddenly) : Oh shit! Ragini…. I forgot about her.
Sanskaar (reassuringly) : Don’t worry. She also knew about everything. Adarsh would have picked her up by now.
Swara (disbelievingly) : She knew? That’s why she wanted me to wear this dress.
As she tugged at her dress, Sanskaar smiled and gazed at her. These were the last few minutes he could really enjoy with her happily. He drank in her red knee length dress, The smile on her face… and smiled mischeviously.
He was mixing some batter for pancakes…. He took some of it and applied it on Swara’s face.
Swara (Shocked) : Sanskaar! How dare you?
She dipped her finger in some of the batter and smeared Sanskaar’s chin. Soon it spread into a whole fledged food fight!
Swara, finally tired out sat down and admitted defeat.
Swara : Bas… I can’t take anymore.
Her face was now covered with white splotches, same as Sanskaar!
Sanskaar : There is no more batter left anyways. So no dessert today!
Swara : Koi nahi! This batter is delicious (licking her fingers)
They washed their faces and cooked together laughing all the while.
Sanskaar made a really yummy veg augratin while Swara made a mixed fruit smoothie.
Sanskaar led Swara to her chair and sat down. They served each other and were about to start eating when….
Sanskaar : STOP!
Swara (startled) : What happened?
Sanskaar : This is a candle light dinner. I have to switch off the lights.
He got up and switched off the lights. Only the candles shone, spreading its warm romantic glow everywhere.
Sanskaar sat back down and they ate slowly.

After dinner, Swara and Sanskaar sat by Aarav’s pool and dipped their legs in the warm water. Swara rested her head on Sanskaar’s shoulders.
Swara : I’m so sorry! Whenever I think that you’re keeping a big secret from me, You prove me wrong. It is always something for me. I should never have…
Sanskaar (placing a finger on her lips) : No Swara! I made you think like that. all secretive. This is not your mistake.
Swara : That’s why you’re the best.
Sanskaar’s heart raced with joy even as his mind grew more and more dismayed.
Swara : By the way, Who’s Kavita?
Sanskaar (stiffening) : Why?
Swara : Yesterday, when I asked, You told me she was coming to your bacheor bash. But obviously, she didn’t. I know you know her. Who is she?
Sanskaar (guardedly) : She was my ex girlfriend in Boston.
Swara’s insides lurched.
Swara : Did she hurt you Sanskaar?
Sanskaar turned to Swara surprised.
Swara (giving a slight smile) : I guessed. From your voice… Did she?
Sanskaar looked at the pool unable to look at her. She guessed this. What if she could guess his inner most thoughts as well?
Swara (prodding) : Sanskaar?
He nodded. Swara put an arm around him and they sat like that for some time.
Swara : Why did you tell her name yesterday?
Sanskaar : Oh no reason! Shall we go now? Otherwise the three vultures will kil us tomorrow. It’s the first haldi ceremony of their children.
Swara giggled.
Swara : One day left, Mr Maheshwari.
Sanskaar (soft smile) : I know. I can’t wait…
They came to Swara’s home and Swara smiled at Sanskaar.
Swara : As long as we are following other people norms, A goodbye kiss is a must, Don’t you think?
Before Sanskaar could reply. Swara placed a fleeting but intense kiss on Sanskaar’s lips and got down from the car.
Swara : Thank you for the best bachelor bash ever!
She smiled and entered the house while Sanskaar started the car and left. It was only then that Swara realised that he had never answered her question about Kavita. Why had he told her name?
