Chapter 59

Night, Laksh’s study room

Laksh was working on his project report, finalizing it for tomorrow’s meeting, when Sanskar stepped in unannounced……
Sanskar: hey Lucky, up to some important work??
“Bhai!!” Laksh exclaimed turning to him….
Laksh: You are here? I thought these days your destination is Swara’s room only….
Sanskar: (stern tone) stand up….
Laksh confusingly looked at his brother’s blank face…..
“I said stand up” he repeated little louder. Laksh immediately stood up, although puzzled with Sanskar behavior. Sanskar hugged him tightly as soon as he came in front of him “Thanks Lucky, thank you so much”. His words filled with gratitude….. Laksh hugged him back….. After sometime they departed
Laksh: (smirk) you scared me, is it the way to show your thankfulness…..
Sanskar: (smiles) special treatment for special person…
Laksh: (teasing tone) don’t ever think of giving this special treatment to Swara….
Sanskar: before you annoy me with your words, I want to give you this….
He took out an envelope from his pocket and placed it in Laksh’s hand…. Laksh looked at it with puzzled expressions
Laksh: what’s this??
Sanskar: why don’t you open up and see….
His face lit up as he opened it, cheerfully he shouted “No way, it can’t be true”. He had the exhibition passes in his hand, the exhibition of the two painters he almost worships…..
“Exhibition, in the memory of Tyeb Mehta and M. F. Hussain, Mumbai art gallery” he read out loudly, Sanskar was observing his brother’s excitement……
Laksh: Bhai, you are awesome….
Sanskar: (smiles) this is a return gift, hope you like it…
Laksh: I love it bhai…
Sanskar: I have booked your and Ragini’s flight tickets for Mumbai, it’s after a week and half…
Laksh: (smirk) Not bad ha, love made you so sensible…..
Sanskar shook his head and stated “You will never gonna change na!!”

Morning, Swara’s room

She was getting ready for the day when her phone beeped, a message popped up…..it was from Sanskar
“Come to my room” she read…
“why??” she quickly typed and send…
“Are you coming or not??” he messaged back….
“coming” she typed with a smile imagining his annoyed face…. She quickly looked herself in the mirror before moving out…..
Smiled curved on his lips as he heard a knock on the door “come” he said softly…… she slowly stepping in, little hesitant as she was in his room for the first time, although earlier she had few glances of it passing through the corridors but never stepped in….. she looked around keenly to scan the room, the room was simple yet elegant, walls painted in beige color, windows decorated with matching draperies. The room was dominated by gigantic four-poster bed, few pictures of him with Siya and other family members were placed on the side table, tucked in beautiful photo frames…..
“how’s the room, you like it??” he asked softly, embracing her from back…..
“hmmm, your room is nice” she replied….
“Soon it’s going to be ours…..” he whispered…
Swara: (diverting the topic) why you called me?
Sanskar: I have something for you….
Swara: (confused) what??
He departed himself from her to pick his phone, after a minute of work over it, he placed it in front of her….. first she looked at the screen casually but then narrowed her eyes as she read….
“I did it….. I passed the exam” she squealed….. and then hugged him tightly in excitement, Sanskar was smiling over her reaction….. the greatest news for her, all her hard work turned fruitful, she passed her scholarship exam……
Sanskar: (hugged her back) I am proud of you….
Swara: (looking at him) how do you know about the result and my registration number?
Sanskar: (caressing her cheek) I am blessed with a very sharp memory, so It’s not difficult for me to remember the result date and your registration number…. After all I filled your form…
She smiles while silently admiring his intellect….
Sanskar: are you happy now!!!
Swara: very much…. I must tell this to Ma and Ashu, they will be very happy….
Over excited with the news, she was ready to move away but he stopped her grabbing from waist….. she looked questionably to him….
Sanskar: you can inform them later, stay with me for sometime….
Swara: (nervously) aren’t you getting late for office, Mr. Maheshwari??
Sanskar: (raising a brow) what!!! What you just said??
Swara: (confused) I said you must be getting late for office…
Sanskar: No, after that…
Swara: (breaking voice) Mr. …..Maheshwari…..
Sanskar: are you going to call me that rest of our life??
Swara: So, what’s the problem?
Sanskar: I want you to call me by my name….Sanskar
Swara: (blushed) I can’t change months of habit overnight, I need some time….
Sanskar smiles over her explanation….
Sanskar: fine, take your time….. I know you are not as adaptable as me….
Annoyed with his teasing words, she hit him on his chest…..

Afternoon, Siya’s room

Swara was reading the timetable of Siya’s coming exams…… she was worried as very little time was left, and they still have to cover a lot…..
“Siya we have to work a lot” she stated scanning the syllabus…. Getting no response from her, she looked up to her…. Oblivious of all this Siya was busy in drawing something in her notebook…
“Siya, what are you doing” Swara asked looking at her notebook but she quickly closed it and hide it behind her back, Swara got confused with her behavior…
Swara: what is it, why are you hiding??
Siya: (little nervous) Nothing….
Swara: (softly) show me Siya….
She was unwilling but Swara successfully grabbed the book from her hand, she opened the page and bemused to see it…. The terror crawled over Siya’s face….. “No please” she exclaimed….
Siya: (looking at Swara’s face) I am sorry….
She has made Swara’s sketch, as it could be easily guessed by the apparels and hairs, and over it neatly written in bold letters…. “Shona MAA”. Tears brimmed in Swara’s eyes, she looked at Siya with those moist eyes…. But little kid was unable to figure out her feelings…
Siya: (innocently) I told Tina that you are going to marry my dad, So she said then you will become my mother….. but I won’t call you if you don’t like….
Swara embraced her tightly in her arms and kissed her cheek….
Siya: (astound) are you not angry??
Swara: why would I be, call me whatever you want, Shona Ma is better than Shona di….
Siya: (cheerfully) really!!!
Swara: yes my dear….
Siya: I will call you Ma like you call your mother, I love it and Shona Ma because I love your nick name, not like me “Laddoo”
“awww my bacha” Swara kissed her tightly on cheek….
Siya was overwhelmed, finally she got someone whom she could call mother, her years of yearning ended….

Night, Swara’s room

Swara and Sanskar were together, after a tiring day it was an absolute relaxation for him to be with her, precisely in his arms…. Swara told him excitingly about Siya and her conversation, how she called her Ma…. He was happy for Siya, a mother is always special for a child and she was deprived of this feeling since long, but now she would feel complete…. He knows Swara would be a wonderful mother for her…..
Sanskar: (playing with her fingers) Swara, I want to talk about something important…
Swara: ok, tell me…
Sanskar: (serious tone) Do you want to marry?
Lifting her head from his chest, she looked at him with astound eyes….
Swara: don’t you want to marry me??
Sanskar realized she mistook his words…..
Sanskar: (kissing her palm) I would love to, as soon as possible…. But Swara I am concerned about your studies, since now you have cleared the scholarship exam with good rank, you have number of options to select a college or institute….
Swara: So what?
Sanskar: Swara, I know how diligently you have studies for this and how willing you are to peruse your higher studies, and I don’t want it all to go futile….. so, you can thought about it….
Swara could see the deep concern in his eyes……
Swara: I can peruse my studies even after marriage….
Sanskar: yeah but if you want to concentrate on your studies then I can wait, you have the opportunity to study in one of the best colleges of Delhi, Mumbai or may be Chennai….. Swara the window of opportunity doesn’t stay open forever….
Swara: there are many options in Bhopal also, I can do it from here…. it doesn’t matter from where you have studied, what you have studied is important….
Sanskar: you are free to take your decision, don’t think about me or family or anything else….
Swara: (playfully) Ok fine, I think you are right, it’s better if I do my PG from Delhi…. If you are ready to wait then wait, we will marry after 5 years….
Sanskar: (questionably) But PG is of two years or maximum three!!!
Swara: (innocently) yeah but after that I have to do the internship and then I thought of working there for some experience, it will help me to get a good job here…… are you ok with it??
Sanskar was deeply pondering about all this, imagining about the separation of so long….. Swara’s question shook him….
Sanskar: (calmly) yeah, I have no problem…..
Swara was scanning his face, though his words were genuine but there was a tinge of disappointment and displeasure there….. She burst out laughing, looking at his sad face….. he amusingly looked at her, stunned over her reaction….
“What!!! Why you are laughing?” he asked questionably….
Swara: (holding her laugh) look at your face, why you are pretending to be so strong when you are not…… and I was just kidding, I will do my PG from here only
Sanskar took a deep sigh of relief first and then latter he crushed her under him, and locked her hands above her head…..
Sanskar: you were playing with me…..
Swara: So, can’t I…. why you were being so thoughtful?
Sanskar: Swara, I don’t want to be an obstruction between you and your dreams…. Marriage is just a ritual for me, I have already accepted you as a soul mate…..
Swara stared him affectionately for few seconds and then making him little perplexed kissed him on his cheek…. “You can never be an obstruction beside I don’t want to stay away for so long”. Sanskar was amazed with her somewhat candid confession, she rarely comes out of her coyness but whenever she does, it makes his day…. They were lost in their own world, he moved closer to kiss her but to his bad luck her phone rang…
“it’s Ma” she exclaimed looking at the screen, and pushed him away nervously….
“Swara, you just got a call from your mother, she is not here” he stated looking at her nervous face but she didn’t look much affected by his words…..
