Chapter 55
Night, Maheshwari Mansion
Sanskar stepped inside the house at the dead of night, he was in office for all these hours, deliberately involved in trivial works to suppress his urge to see her….. Silently he was moving towards his room, walking through the hall….
“Sanskar” a voice made him stop, he turned to find the source…
Sanskar: Mom!! You are still awake??
Annapurna: yeah, I was waiting for you….come here
Sanskar came up to there and sat next to her on the couch…
Sanskar: (displeased) Mom, why you have been waiting for me? If there was something important you could have talked in the morning…..
Annapurna: It’s ok dear, I am fine….. How could I sleep when my child is restless?
She said scanning the fine lines of pain and distress over his face
Sanskar: (hiding his pain) there’s nothing like that, I am little tired that’s it
Annapurna: (faint smile) I am your mother Sanskar, I can read your face….. so just tell me what happened between you and Swara, I guessed it the moment you denied to come back to see her when Ragini called you and I was right, Laksh told me you are searching for a new Governess for Siya….. Now will you please tell me what the matter is?
Now he couldn’t troll her mother anymore….
Sanskar: (taking a deep sigh) she doesn’t love me Mom, all these days I was living in an illusion…. Well it was my fault, being delusional was my choice, she never said she loves me….. And now she wanted to go back, so there is no point in holding her back unwillingly or forcefully….
He tried not to fall weak but she was his mother and a man could freely shed tears in front of his mother without being embarrassed….. with moist eyes and a faint smile he looked at her, she was also in same state or perhaps worst….. She immediately took him in her embrace, although her son was strong, he rarely shed tears unless he’s brutally broken…. She couldn’t bear his plight and broke out….
Sanskar: (comforting her) Mom!! It’s ok, I am fine…. I have you, Siya and My family with me, what else one need….. you always say god plans our life, he gives us what we deserve…. So might be this is my destiny…. Why to regret on losing something which was never yours, So just be calm, your son is not that weak…
He smiled cupping her face and whipped her tears…. “No more tears, you are my strong mom” he said softly, she nodded and kissed his forehead….
Sanskar: come on, I will take you to your room…
She stood up and he held her hand….. soon they entered in her room, making her sit on the bed, he sat beside….
Sanskar: Mom, I don’t want anybody to bother Swara, please don’t ask anything to her…. just close this chapter here….
Annapurna: don’t worry dear, no one will do that….
With a faint smile he kissed her forehead and was about to step out but then turned….
“How is Swara, Mom?” he asked hesitantly
“She is fine, temperature is normal now, although little weak but soon she will be perfectly healthy” she replied, with a satisfied smile he left from there…..

A week later
It’s been a week since Swara saw him or heard him, because of her ill health she has been confined herself to her room, although she recovered after couple of days but couldn’t muster courage to walk out of her room. He didn’t come to see her in these days, not even for once, and it disappointed Swara. Somewhere she was expecting him, like always but he did not turn up…. but little for her happiness, Siya was constantly there with her…. accompanying her in this odd situation, keeping her little busy with her innocent talks…. Other family members were intermittently came to see her but there was something different in their eyes, some sadness or sorrow which got noticed by Swara… she wanted to ask but then held back, scared what if it is because of her….. She did everything willingly thought it will give her peace but unfortunately her life became more entangled…

Night, Laksh and Ragini’s room
Ragini: Laksh, if you allow I can confront Swara….
Laksh: No Ragini, bhai strictly asked not to bother her about this….
Ragini: (worried) So, we will do nothing??
Laksh: off course we will do something, I can’t see my brother suffering like this…. Ragini he is not only my elder brother but a best buddy, although we have only two yeas difference but he always treated me like a kid… I never felt dad’s absence when he is around…. He fulfilled all my wishes, now it’s my turn…. And I swear, he will get what he wants….
Ragini: (observing her husband) don’t you think, you are being over confident!!
Laksh: no dear, it’s called trust…. I know Swara loves him, if not then she shouldn’t be in such miserable condition, off course she is not happy with the happenings…. She just needs a push, and then she will herself spill out the truth….
Ragini: (keeping her head on his shoulder) hope so….
“Don’t worry” he assured her wrapping a hand around her shoulder…

Night, Swara’s room
Swara was arranging her clothes in the suitcase, preparing herself to leave…. There was no point in living there after what all happened, she had to act on her words….
“Swara, are you busy” a voice broke inside…
“Laksh!!” she stated looking at him…
Laksh: can we talk, if you are not busy….
Swara: yeah sure, come in….
He made himself comfortable on the chair placed at a corner of bed and signaled her to sit in front….
Laksh: (heavy voice) Swara I know you and bhai had some conflict, I don’t want to talk about that, and will not ask you what happened or what is the bone of contention…. I am here as a friend not as your boss’s brother….. So as a friend can I talk to you?
Swara was little surprised to see the different shade of Laksh today, he was not like playful, lively, outspoken and childish person he is but a sounding like a mature man
Swara: yeah, why not….
Laksh: Swara, do you know why bhai didn’t married yet?
Little confused by his question, she hesitantly spoke…
Swara: because of Siya, he needs a woman who treats Siya as her own kid…
Laksh: (faint smile) though it’s obvious to consider it before getting in such relationship but not the truth…. He got an opportunity to marry a girl who was happily ready to accept Siya whole heartedly…. Do you know who was she?
Swara stared him with puzzled eyes… he continued
Laksh: it was Ragini…. (her eyes widened as she heard him and he noticed her bewilderment) yeah dear bhai and Ragini was supposed to marry from the beginning, Ragini’s father and my dad were very close friends and they wanted this alliance, bhai had nothing to defy as he trusts dad blindly and same was the case with Ragini, after dad’s death Sanskar bhai considered it as his last wish, all were happy for them….. But then the most unfortunate thing happened, Adarsh bhai and Parineeta bhabhi left us…. This shook bhai brutally….
He took an eloquent pause there after…. Swara was curious to know more…
Swara: (anxiously) then how Ragini got married to you?
Laksh: you know about Adarsh bhai and Siya’s connection but must not be aware that Adarsh bhai’s death wasn’t natural, he committed suicide…
These revelations one after another were completely astonished her, she huffed hearing that….
Laksh: yeah this is the stark truth we have to live with all our life….
Swara: but why he did this?
Laksh: It all started when they got to know about that bhabhi couldn’t conceive as there were some complications and doctor had advised bhabhi not to conceive as it could be fatal for her. Therefore bhai decided to adopt a kid instead of having their own…. His love for bhabhi was much more than anything so he couldn’t dare to risk her life but bhabhi was adamant, she wanted her own kids and for this she was ready to jeopardize her life….. they started fighting over it often and then one day bhai brought Siya home in a hope that might be the child could change bhabhi’s decision and will bring happiness in their life again but he never thought his plan would back fire, bhabhi left home angrily and in a way she met with a deadly accident….. Adarsh bhai was in shock for many days, he blamed himself for bhabhi’s death…. We all tried to comfort him but failed, Sanskar bhai was in Delhi doing his MBA that time , he came back as heard this news… we all were little relieved that now bhai would be able to handle Adarsh bahi as they were very close but destiny has planned something else, bhai left us…..
we found him dead, hanging from the roof….. it was difficult for us to believe that two people who were in love since childhood and considered as epitome of perfection will have such horrible end, all were shattered but most affected person was Bhai, he couldn’t even cry because he has to support the family….. Everyone expecting him to be strong and behave maturely but from inside he was broken….. as time passed we all learned to live with this truth and moved on but he stuck there, the most perfect couple’s story ended like this and it imprinted deeply on him…. That day he decided not to fall for anyone and never to get married, but he has to keep dad’s promise so he asked me to marry Ragini, though didn’t forced me….. I wanted to lessen his pain so I agreed…..
Swara face was wet with tears, she was now guiltier for her behavior…….
Swara: (whipping her tears) So, this is how you and Ragini got married….
Laksh: (smile) it wasn’t easy, you know Ragini very well…. she straight away rejected me. It was difficult for her to understand bhai’s situation, she was angry that how could we make her life a joke….. but I tried hard to convince her and in the process unknowingly I fell for her….. I did everything to make her realize my love and sooner she agreed because she never loved bhai and neither bhai loved her, it was purely an alliance arranged by our parents…..
Swara: (smiles) So, this is how you get Ragini….
Laksh: (smiled back) yeah, and for this I owe a lot to bhai…..(They smiled back to each other) Swara, it was very difficult for bhai to accept his feelings for you or might be he never does unless the thought of losing you has haunted him…. He confessed to me first when you were in hospital and doctor informed about your critical condition….. you know the fear of losing someone you love makes you realize his importance in your life…….
She was so ashamed of herself that she hardly bare to look at Laksh……
Laksh: (holding his hand) Swara I told you all this because I felt you should know the entire truth….. but don’t feel burdened or guilty, I never wished to manipulate you or force you to accept what you rejected….. do what you feel like….. we are friends and will always be, nothing can change our equation…… just want to tell you one thing love is a very special emotion but unfortunately most of the people couldn’t recognize it when it comes to them……
He stared her with hopeful eyes for few seconds…. “Good night dear” he said patting her cheek and walked out….. but today sleep was far away from her, all she has to do was to repent for her deeds….
