Chapter 42

Evening, Garden area, Maheshwari Mansion

It’s almost a week to Sharmishtha in Maheshwari Mansion…. Swara recovered from her injury, now she was perfectly fine…. So, it was time for Sharmishtha to go back
Annapurna: (passing a cup of tea to her) So, Sharmishtha ji when you have decided to leave for Indore?
Sharmishtha: day after tomorrow…..
Annapurna: (sadly) wish you could stay here for more but I know your son needs you too
Sharmishtha: exactly, what could I do? I am stuck, my one eye is here and other there in Indore
Annapurna: don’t worry about Swara, we all are here for her…..and after this incidence Sanskar is extra careful about the safety of every one, he even deployed personal bodyguards for all…. I assure you she is all safe here…
Sharmishtha: (smile) I don’t know how to express my gratitude towards you and your family…. Really Annapurna ji the way you all cared for Shona is just commendable, now I am no more insecure about her…
Annapurna: it’s nothing in comparison with what Swara did for us, she earned our love and respect…. I must say you have given her best upbringing possible…. You should be a proud mother
Sharmishtha: (smiles) I am….
They exchanged smiles, after a silence of few second Sharmishtha spoke hesitantly “I was thinking if I could take Shona with me for few days, Ashu is so impatient to meet his sister” Annapurna wasn’t expecting this, she was little surprised though it was genuine, Swara didn’t visit to Indore even for once since she came here “I can underst…………….
“No!!! you can’t take her” Siya screamed
She heard them and before Annapurna could say anything she interrupted, both the ladies turned to her with bewilderment….. Siya hurriedly came up to them
Annapurna: (softly) Siya, it’s just a matter of few days, she will come back…..
Siya: (adamantly) No, no, no….. She will stay with me here, she can’t go…..
Annapurna: (holding Siya’s hand) bacha, your Shona di has a little brother and he wants to meet her…
Siya: ask him to come here, why she will go….
Annapurna: (stern voice) Siya, behave yourself….
Broken with Annapurna’s strict tone, she ran from there with teary eyes….
Annapurna: (looking back to Sharmishtha) please don’t mind, she is just a kid….
Sharmishtha: No, it’s ok…… I can understand her fear….

Siya was running in corridor, her weak cries turned into loud weeping which was audible…..Swara recognized her voice as she crossed her room, she quickly stepped out to look for her…

“Siya….” Swara called out her name but the little fiery princess was so involved in her own world that she couldn’t hear anything….. Swara was worried, she strode behind her…..

“Dad….” Siya screamed as she reached study room where he was engrossed in work completely, startled by the voice he turned around….. the sight was displeasing for him, agonized with his daughter’s state he stood up from the chair and quickly came up to her….
Sanskar: Siya, what happened?
Her father, her panacea was there in front of her…. she immediately hugged her legs while crying….
Sanskar: (picking her up in his arm) princess, why are you crying…. Anyone troubled you?
Before she could answer, they got disturbed by Swara’s voice….. she was there at the door step, looking at them with anxious and worried eyes….
“Siya!!!” Swara called her name….
Much to their surprise Siya’s crying became more louder as she heard Swara…. little frightened with her reaction, Swara came up to her….
Swara: (caressing her cheek) what happened dear? Why you are crying?
Releasing herself from Sanskar’s hold, Siya jumped in Swara’s arms…. Clinging close to her chest she started crying again….. Swara looked at Sanskar with perplexed eyes…. They were trying to figure out the reason for her behavior….
Swara: (rubbing her back) shhhh….. you are my strong girl na, then how can you cry baby….
She made her sit on the couch and whipped her tears, due to continuous crying her breathing turned heavy…. Sanskar poured some water in a glass and passed it to Swara….
Sanskar: first drink this…..
Swara helped her to sip some….. they waited for her to calm down sitting on either sides of her….
Sanskar: (caressing her hand) Now tell me what happened?
Siya: Shona di’s mom wants to take her back to Indore….. She was talking to dadi ma and when I said no to her, dadai ma scolded me…
Sanskar and Swara both looked at each other….. It was clearly visible on his face, he was also not pleased with the idea…. How impatiently he was waiting to divulge his feelings to her and if she will go it would only make him more restless….
Siya: (looking at Swara) will you go??
Swara: it’s just for few days Siya then I will come back…. I also need vacation just like you
Sanskar was silent, he didn’t know what to say, though his condition wasn’t as worst as Siya but not even better then……
Siya: (hugging Swara) No, you can’t go….
Swara: (caressing her hair) Siya, see I am here with you for so many days, my mother and bhai missed me….. so, they also want to spend some time with me…
Siya: (releasing herself from Swara) your mother is bad, I don’t like her…..
Sanskar: (angrily) Siya!!! Is this the way to talk? Say sorry….
Swara wasn’t happy with his reaction, she glared him angrily and silently signaled not to acerbate the situation….
Siya: (teary eyes) sorry…
Swara: fine dear, you don’t want me to go, I won’t go…. Happy!! Now stop crying…
Siya: (cheerfully) really!!…. promise me
Swara: (holding her hand) promise….
Siya was all content and happy with Swara’s promise, she kissed her and ran from there shouting “I will tell this to dadi ma”
Sanskar: (looking at Swara) why you gave her fake hopes, she will be more hurt when you go….
Swara: it wasn’t a fake hope….
Sanskar: (confused) what??
Swara: yes, what I said was true….
Sanskar: (shocked) don’t you want to go?
Swara: off course, I do but not like this….. How can I leave Siya in such condition, it will make me restless and guilty….
Sanskar: and what about aunty? She will get upset….
Swara: I will talk to her, I know she will understand….
He took a deep sigh of relief, Swara’s decision was a delight for him though somewhere he was little guilty, guilt of withholding Swara here for his self-interest but as it is said everything is fair in love and no doubt he was madly in love with this girl…..

Night, Swara’s room

She was thinking how to tell Sharmishtha about her promise to Siya. She knew her decision would disappoint her mother but she was stuck badly, it was impossible to keep everyone happy….. She was struggling with her own feelings when she heard her mother’s voice…
Sharmishtha: (flipping the pages of magazine) Shona, I think I should drop the idea of taking you with me this time….. I have seen Siya today, she was hurt to know that…. Poor kid
Swara was shocked to hear her mother…. As if god granted her wish…
Swara: Maaa….. Really!! I mean, do you really think so?
Sharmishtha: hmmm…. It’s true I wanted you to come with me but the way Siya reacted I think it’s not the right time….. you can come on next weekend, till then you have to find a way to sway Siya because it will be difficult for me to hold back Ashu for long…. He is so impatient to see you….
Swara: (hugged her mother) thank you so much Ma, you don’t know what you did for me….. I was in great dilemma….. love you Ma…
Sharmishtha: (smiles) love you too my bacha….

Morning, Swara’s room

Swara sitting on the bed with a sad face, cursing her fate when Siya arrived…..
“Good morning Shona di” Siya squealed happily
Swara looked at her and replied coldly “Good morning”
Siya: are you ill?
Swara: No, I am fine dear…..
Siya: but you are looking Sad….
Swara: no it’s not like that but you are looking very happy today, what’s the reason?
Siya: yes I am…. There are two things….. first is a secret I can’t tell you and second is dad’s promise, you know what he promised me that you will live here with me forever…..
Baffled with Siya’s words, Swara looked at her blankly….. She was confused, why he promised something like this to Siya, what he is up to?
