Part-30

LOVE… The intangible connection between two people that feels exceptionally good!! This is what Google defines love as…. But, is that true?? Definition of Love varies for person to person… For some it is Money, for some it is body, for some it is respect, for some it is life… Why do we need love?? Falling in love is not strange thing for me… I’ve already fallen for Meghana… But, we were never meant to be together… Swara… Is she my love?? I don’t know why I always get confused about our relation… May be because things are going too fast between us… I knew nothing about her… But, now she is everything… It always remained as question for me… Where did she get this strange fire? It burns me if I am far way, but is pleasantly cool when I am near…. The whistling winds and howling cold breeze made anxious and move closer to her… Every breathe of mine has her fragrance… My thoughts halted as she stopped the bike with a sudden and pointed me a beautiful river…

The water shined in the coldness of the moon, cat tails and tall grass swayed in the soft breeze. Trees stood tall and proud on the other side of the river, and beyond the field to the rear of me raised great mountains. How beautiful would that be to have those proud trees on my left and that humble field and powerful mountains on my right… The moon would smile on me I know it would, the dark sky would sing to my weary heart, and I would feel at peace… She found a comfortable place to sit and took a small book form her sling bag… It was black short note book with glittering moon designs on it… I opened it slowly… On the very first page a date before my birthdate four years ago and time is mentioned… It was 11:45

“To dear Sanskaar…

A very happy birthday… I wish I could say this louder…I wish I could call you at this time and engage you with my talks and surprise you by wishing you exactly at 12… But, I’m not that lucky Mr. Sanskaar Maheshwari… Well, you’ve become 21 years old… You’re no longer a boy I remember… You’ve become a man… Every year I irritate Rago by explaining her 101 ways to surprise you on your birthday… This year I didn’t dared to ask her… Not because I lost interest in you… I still love you the same way… I love you to the core… Happy birthday my love… “

I turned the pages and scanned those… Skipped few… But one page caught my attention…

“I hate you Sanskaar (My name was striked off)…. I didn’t expect that you would hurt this much… Thanks for the pain you gave me… Thanks for making me feel drained… No love is left in me… I hate you… What was fault?? You could’ve punished me for my mistakes… But, you punished me for loving me… I didn’t expect to appreciate the song I sang for you… But, also didn’t expect you to leave the place… Why?? Just because your friends teased you by my name… “

Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I’ll be waiting; all that’s left to do is run.
You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess,
It’s a love story, baby, just say “Yes”.

I remembered her singing love story for me when we met two years ago on Rags birthday… When I decided to leave the party as friends teased me with her name… She sobbed quietly and left… I wish I could’ve replied her something like…

Marry me, Juliet; you’ll never have to be alone.
I love you, and that’s all I really know.
I talked to your dad – go pick out a white dress
It’s a love story, baby, just say YES…
Cause we were both young when I first saw you…

I looked at her with pain… But, She is still and calm as river… hiding a tsunami of love inside her… I tuned pages again…

“My love is only for you Sansku… Nothing in the universe can change you… I will love you forever and ever…”

I glanced at her trying to read those eyes… Every time she closed her eyes they seemed to bore into me… Every time I looked into them and nearly lost me… Suffering, loneliness, longing, desire her eyes held all those deep seated emotions and many more… Why didn’t I read them much before?? I cursed myself and turned the pages again…

“I don’t understand this Sanskaar… Is it because Rago didn’t tried to convince you… Or you were so stubborn to be convinced… It’s been years… You didn’t give me a chance… Is it like Rago is not bothered about my love? Or even if she tried her best were you not in a position to just meet me for once? I loved you both the same way… You both give me the same pain… I can understand if you ignored me Sanskaar… But, I thought Ragini would be with me… Support me… But, no she said she was busy… She has no idea of what I was going through… Sometimes I feel you don’t want me to be with Sanskaar… I know that is completely pointless… You’ve everything in your life… You don’t have any reason to do something like that… But Rago, I wish you could understand my pain… You will understand only if you know how this feeling will be like… The moment Rahul left you… Lucky stood with you… Supported you… He didn’t let you know the pain… But, whom did I have?? You were always busy to understand my pain… Now, never expect me be the same old Swara with you…”

I closed the book … Realization came to me all too late, the problem had already occurred and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Swara became cold towards everyone… She is just pretending to be strong and happy… May be that is why she never shows her pain… I hugged her tightly not letting my eyes to shed tears… She slowly released herself from m grip and looked at me with a beautiful smile on her face… “I’m sorry… I know Sorry would be a small word compared to the pain I gave you… But, trust me… Give me one chance Shona…”

“Sansku… Shush (Placing her finger on my lips) … There is a reason why I showed this you… This diary was written during early stages of my love… I felt so insecure and vulnerable about our relation… But, now I don’t feel insecure anymore… I feel that I’m luckiest person in the world as I’ve ocean of love inside me… And thanks for making me strong… You might have hurt me… You might have ignored me but that only helped in being detached… Being independent!! Thank you Sanskaar!!

Silence persuaded us for some moment when I bent down, placed my lips against her cheek, brushing it lightly—and still that light touch sent shivers through her nerves, shivers that made her whole body tremble. ‘If you want me to stop, tell me now,’ I whispered… When she still said nothing, I brushed my mouth against the hollow of her temple… ‘Or now…’ I traced the line of her cheekbone… ‘Or now…’ my lips were against hers.

‘Or—’

But she had reached up and pulled me down to her, and the rest of my words were lost against her mouth… I kissed her gently, carefully, but it wasn’t gentleness she wanted, not now, not after all this time, and she knotted her fists in my shirt, pulling me harder against her… I groaned softly, low in my throat, and then my arms circled her, gathering her against me, and we rolled over on the grass, tangled together, still kissing… We gaped in between for oxygen but continued again… Time seemed to stop, World seemed to halt… After what feels like an eternity, her lips depart mine and I freeze… I dedicated my life to being with her from the moment of that first kiss; for I knew that if I lost her I would lose myself… She was the half that made me whole… It was sweet, in both the figurative and literal senses of the word…

She slowly got up and took the diary and sling bag avoiding eye contact with me and ran towards bike… I smiled and followed her… This time I rode bike… She sat behind me by maintaining distance between us… I adjusted the mirror to see her gleaming cherry face… By the time we reached farmhouse darkness lifted allowing light to pass through…

RagLak were sleeping on the sofa… Only when Sanskaar sprinkled water on both… Laksh who woke up first kicked Sanskaar…

Sanskaar: Ahh… Lucky what is this??

Laksh: Raath bar kaha mar gaya tu?? (Where did you die the whole night?)

Sanskaar: I was romancing with my girlfriend…

Laksh: Romance and you… Lol… Very funny…

Sanskaar: Acha… You find it funny haan… Wait!!

Sanskaar poured whole jug of water on Ragini and gave the jug to Laksh and ran from there… Ragini woke up shouting Rain… Rain… Laksh laughed seeing her condition but understood Sanskaar’s plan… He too ran behind Sanskaar followed by Ragini… Cat and mouse chase took place until Swara calmed Ragini and they both went to get ready for grand wedding… They reached the palace just few minutes before auspicious season… Meghana glared at them angrily but immediately forgot about it as she is lost in that moment…

Meghana’s father brought Abhi to the mandap and is worshipped in a ceremony called the Var Puja. The bride’s parents honored him by washing his feet and offered him a silk dhoti and pitambar, which are to be worn by him. Later, Meghana is escorted to the mandap by her uncles. An interesting custom followed… It is that no one is supposed to see the bride’s face. Her cousin sister shielded her face with a fan of peacock feathers. The bride and groom stand on the either side of a white cloth, which separates them. For the recitation of the marriage mantras (Mangalashtam), the bride and the groom take standing positions. The cloth is removed, and the bride and groom garland each other amidst the chanting of mantras. After that bride’s father took the groom’s hand and places it on the bride’s hand. The moment when the bride is “handed” over to the groom, her father ceremonially pours water into the groom’s hands (called dhara), signifying that she is now his. Corn/rice is then put into the havan five times, before the 7 pheras or the saptapadi begins. They both are tied with a nuptial knot. The bride follows the groom’s footsteps seven times around the holy fire (saptapadi). Five married women tie the mangalsutra or the holy thread while the bridegroom holds it around the neck of the bride. The couple then bowed before the elders, and visit the temple for blessings. It was a beautiful wedding… I wanted to marry Swara in the same way… May be in Marwari style… I looked at her lovingly…

She wore a beautiful coral color sari with raspberry and gold combination blouse… She carried it with elegance Her Amazonian figure sat well on her wafer-thin body… She had a decanter shaped waist and her complexion had an impeccable, ochrous hue… Her pencil-thin eyebrows eased down gently to her black, beetle’s-leg eyelashes… A sculptor could not have fashioned her seraph’s ears and pixie’s nose any better… When she broke into a smile, her beguiling, oyster-white teeth lit up the room. It could jolt anyone like an electric current when that megawatt smile grabbed my full attention… Filed to perfection, her Venus-red fingernails ran through her kohl-black hair… Spools of it plunged around her photogenic face and hid a swan’s neck, elegant and smooth… My heart is thumping so loud seeing her… God, save me from this beauty…
