INTRODUCTION
Sumitra is a forgotten and a less talked about Character in the Hindu epic Ramayana. She was princess of Kashi , third and youngest wife of Dashrath, the mighty king of Ayodhya. She was mother to twins Lakshman and shatrughan. She always made her sons to follow their step brothers from other queens. Such was her selfless nature that she sent one of her son Shatrughan with his elder Step brother Bharath( from queen Kaikeyi) to queen Kaikei’s maternal home so he could serve him.
She had also sent Her elder Son Lakshman with Ram on 14-years exile to serve him.
She was a loving and caring mother-in-law to Urmila( Lakshman’s wife) and Shrutkeerthi (shatrughan’s wife) and a pampering grandma to her grandsons.
