Daruka joyfully bowed before Devi Parvati, her heart overwhelmed with gratitude for the goddess who had fulfilled her long-cherished wish. Smiling benevolently, Devi Parvati accepted her devotion. Beside her, Mahadev watched in silence. After blessing Daruka, both divinities began their departure from the mortal realm. Daruka’s friend, awestruck by the miracle, exclaimed that such a divine intervention could only have happened because of Daruka’s piety and unwavering faith.
Moments later, Daruka’s husband, Daruk, stormed into the scene. His face was twisted with anger. He scolded her harshly for neglecting him and forgetting her duties as a wife. “There’s no food at home,” he shouted, “and you sit here worshipping the goddess!” In his fury, he even raised his hand against
In the celestial plane, Devi Parvati heard Daruka’s desperate voice echo through the cosmos. Mahadev turned to her and asked calmly, “Should I accompany you?” Devi Parvati, her eyes hard with resolve, shook her head. “Do not act in anger,” Mahadev gently warned. She nodded briefly and descended alone to the earthly realm, while Mahadev looked on, hoping she would remember his words.
On earth, Daruk continued his cruelty. “You deserve punishment,” he roared, lifting his weapon, “This time, I’ll make sure you never live to disobey me again!” At that moment, lightning split the sky, and Devi Parvati appeared in her fierce form beside Daruka. Daruk froze, his arrogance replaced by terror as he beheld the goddess. Sacred chants of Aigiri Nandini resonated in the background as Devi Parvati closed her eyes and witnessed Daruk and Daruka’s past—the repeated beatings, the humiliation, the pain. Her voice thundered, “A husband is meant to be a life companion, not a tyrant. You have sinned by inflicting suffering upon your wife, and you shall be punished!”
Daruka, trembling yet compassionate, fell to her knees and begged Devi Parvati to forgive her husband. But the goddess’s expression remained firm. “He does not deserve another chance,” she declared. Daruka pleaded again, promising to guide and change him. Daruk sneered, asking mockingly what she could possibly do, and raised a wooden staff against her once more. This time Devi Parvati’s divine fury ignited—she declared that he had crossed all limits and struck him down, grabbing him by the throat. Daruka screamed for mercy and begged the goddess to spare him. Listening to her, Devi Parvati released him, and Daruk fled for his life.
Looking at Daruka, Devi Parvati warned, “He will repeat his sins. Men like him do not change.” Daruka’s eyes filled with tears. “Mother,” she said, “all women are beaten by their husbands—they accept their pain as destiny.” Devi Parvati turned her gaze toward the women nearby and noticed their bruises, marks of silent suffering on their bodies. Her heart ached. “The world keeps changing,” she said solemnly, “but the pain of women never seems to end.” Daruka replied softly, “We have no strength to protect ourselves.”
Moved by their helplessness, Devi Parvati’s compassion transformed into resolve. “Then I shall grant you strength,” she proclaimed. Just then, Daruk returned with a group of men, shouting arrogantly to his companions, “Let’s teach these women their place!” Fuelled by divine power, Devi Parvati unleashed her wrath. Her aura turned fiery as she struck down the men, sending Daruk sprawling to the ground. Still, Daruka begged the goddess to forgive him. But Devi Parvati declared, “Even the gods cannot save those who do not wish to save themselves. Why should I remain in a place where women refuse to rise?”
Her words stirred something deep within Daruka. She lifted her chin and said, “No, Mother. I wish to protect myself—and every woman—from cruelty.”
Devi Parvati’s eyes softened. “So be it,” she said. “From today, this forest shall be known as Darukavanam. And you, Daruka, shall become Daruka Devi—the protector of women. Henceforth, no evil man shall prevail against you or your sisters.” With that divine decree, she vanished in radiant light.
Far away, Mahadev felt the earth tremble and sighed deeply. “She has done what she felt was right,” he murmured. “But balance will demand its price.”
In another realm, Diti turned to Kali and said darkly, “If women wield such power unchecked, it will bring destruction.” Kali grinned, his eyes glinting. “Indeed,” he replied, “when power rises too quickly, it always brings chaos.” His laughter echoed ominously.
Devi Parvati later returned to Mahadev. He looked at her with calm eyes and asked, “Are you unhappy with your own decision now?” She admitted nothing, but her silence spoke volumes. Mahadev said gently, “You saw her devotion but not the timing. A boon given before its right moment can become a curse.” The air grew still, the goddess thoughtful as the consequences of her compassion began to unfold.
Precap: Daruka, swayed by Diti’s words, feels compelled to call Devi Parvati for guidance once again. Meanwhile, Mahadev cautions Devi Parvati, urging her to return promptly before the sacred flower withers, emphasizing the importance of timing in maintaining the balance of her divine intervention.
