He rummaged through the cupboard, searching for the photo in particular. Comprehending what would happen if he did not find it seemed horrifying, but everything around him horrified him. The silence that surrounded him, and engulfed him in its terrorising embrace could not be fathomed upon. His engulfing thoughts seemed much more comfortable and soothing. At least, in his thoughts he could reminisce about her and love her, if not in reality.

When he had the opportunity to seize her and claim her, he had disrespected her however he could and now when he knew he could not be given another chance, he wanted her in his life. In that life, which had been surpassed a bundle of emotions, yet it always led to the wrong path. She had loved him; He could not see that, and instead he thought it was a fake act, just like any other act of hers. What he had not understood then was: All of it was only to make him love her.

Whom could he blame? Her or himself? Of course, he would not commit the mistake of blaming her again. After all, that was all that he had done when she was with her, and he did not value her, or her love. He could blame himself, but wasn’t everyone else to be blamed too? Why, when she had fought with herself, had they not supported her? Everyone in both the families knew that she had loved him truly, yet they had chosen to dismiss her love for him.

At every moment of her life, when she had expected to spend her life with him, the families did not support her, and instead blamed her. They could not see their mistake. They had changed a beautiful, innocent soul into a devilish, revengeful one. But he could not either. Or may be, he had. But he never paid attention; He did not think it would affect him one day, like it did now. If only, he had known his feelings for Swara was a mere infatuation, and not love. If only he knew, One day it would be ONLY her, and that day, everything would have slipped out of his hands, and she would have left him shattered.

Not because she was revengeful, but because she was that one soul whom, if you considered once, you would fall in love with. Showcasing love was easy, but loving someone truly was difficult. But still she had chosen the difficult path to love him truly and incomprehensibly, but he had never considered her worth him. And when he did, she was there where no one could claim her as their own. He was very sure she had hated him right from the day he had refused to accept his children, but she did not.

That interview of hers still reminded him she loved him. She did not say it aloud, but somewhere in her words, he knew she had said it all. Now, she was only Ragini. The Ragini, whom everyone admired. He could have traced her, but knowing she would refuse to accept him after what he had done was obvious. He did not want to hurt her again, like he had years back. She deserved the freedom, the admiration from everyone around her, which he as a husband could not give her. He had made all possible attempts to fail their relationship in every sense, and he had succeeded. Their marriage had been broken in all ways, and it could not be mended, even if tried.

Why would she even wish to amend their marriage? Why would she even wish to give him a chance after all he had done. He still remembered her brown eyes which talked raw emotions till the last minute he had seen her. Pleading for love and respect, which he could not provide her with in the few months she had stayed with him.

He should have been the one to plead. Plead her for the love, and another chance. But he did not. He had dismissed her, and allowed to leave him. Broken into innumerable fragments, she had left his life forever. If that day he had known, even one day he would be broken into such fragments, he would have stopped and let her reside in his life, like she resided in him now. Everything around him screamed of her, reminded him of her, but now, there was no use. He had lost everything. He had lost her.

She had always asked him to stop; Even when she had tried to rectify her mistakes, but he had completely ignored her. He did only what he wanted to, and following what he thought was the best, he was brought at the worst stage of life, without her. Today, they were alone, separate and out of each others’ lives, yet he could not help, but think of her. The love she had provided him whilst his continuous efforts to make her hate him, had not been futile. He respected her love entirely now, and it was probably enough for him to sustain a life without love, but now it was almost becoming impossible to live without her, but he did not have an option. He had spoilt everything on his own. Now, his life only dealt with regrets and sorrows, and even if she saw him indulged in the grief, she won’t consider him. And neither did he want her to.

He would never force her again. She was allowed the freedom and admiration she had received from everyone around her, and he, now, was no one to spoil it.
If that meant they would be incomplete for this life, then let it be so. He knew they were together; If not physically, at least their hearts were together and entangled. And he did not want to spoil anything anymore.
They were habituated to the way they were living. Stuck in the past, yet living the present.
