Meethi asks Aditya, ” Can you take us to your home, beta?”
Aditya and Imlie are surprised 😦😧 Imlie interrupts, ” Ma, we don’t even know him..neither this Mister knows us why do you want him to take us to his home? And why will he even take us?” Aditya has the same question in his mind.
Meethi says, ” Gudiya, you know I was looking for work since quite sometime. The Guptas gave a very low salary, I have to arrange money for your college. Wouldn’t it be better if I start working at his home as a 24*7 maid? He seems from a well to do family, we can stay in a corner of his house. We will also be free of our dirty slum, where you always fall ill. And may be, you can take tuitions of younger students there in his neighbour hood, you will have a proper environment there to study…”
“Ma!” Imlie shouts, “Ma, why have you taken up this habit to ask anyone to hire you as a maid? Whosever you talk to , even in the market, you ask them to hire you as a maid! Na Jaan na pehchaan lekin main tera naukar!”
Meethi says, “But Gudiya, I desperately need work, I am not even literate to do any other work! You know nowadays how low we are running on money! You have to study!”
” Ma, you have my welfare at your heart 💖 but you while saying all these things you appeared to be such a selfish and greedy person, who is just thinking about herself and her daughter and wants to dwell with a well to do family! I know how selfless you are! What sacrifices you have made! But your that line seemed to be so selfish, do you even know what this Mister would have thought?” Imlie says this all in her single breath!
Aditya is quietly listening to their conversation all this while. He very calmly says, ” If you wish to work, then I don’t have a problem in hiring you as a maid, but I may not be able to pay you a high salary as you are staying in our home as well.”
Imlie again says, ” Listen, Mister you don’t need to become A Robin Hood or Mother India! We don’t need anymore favours, please.” Aditya says, ” I have no intention to become….” Imlie again starts, ” Ma, how can you trust a stranger?..he…” Meethi says, ” This is my decision Imlie, I have the right to take decisions for you as your mother! Now, we are going to his home and that’s final!When he has agreed what problem do you have? Don’t you wish to study or to live properly?”
Imlie yells, ” Okay okay fine! Jo karna hai Karo, jispar bharosa karna hai Karo! jiske yahan le jaana ho le jaao! Hum kuchh nahi kahenge!”
CHATURVEDI HOUSE, HAUZ KHAS
Malini returns after dropping Kalyani to her exam centre. She thinks of something and dials Malhar’s number….
“Hello, Malhar”
“Yes, Malini”
“Can we talk now? Or are you in police station now?”
“Yes, surely we can, I am at my home now, will leave for police station in about an hour.”
“Oh! Malhar you are attending my wedding right?”
” Of course, I am, why do you even ask this question? How can I miss out on two of my best friends’ wedding?”
“Oh! I thought you might be upset about something.”
” Upset? Why upset? Aakhir doston se kaun naraaz hota hai bhala? Aur hota toh bata nahi deta?”
(English translation: Who gets angry with friends? And if I would have been upset then wouldn’t I have told you?)
Malini feels relieved and asks, ” No actually I asked because Kunal said that he won’t be attending my wedding! So I thought that may be you both are upset over something, afterall we haven’t talked properly since long, may be any of my words had hurt him but he isn’t revealing it ….. Nowadays we remain so busy….”
” No, no I know Kunal he never used to be upset with any of us even during school time. He always takes things in a light hearted way, easy to go guy….It was Aditya, who always used to go and sit in a corner for smallest of things😂😂 use kuchh bhi bol dete the na hum log, mazaak mein bhi tab bhi vo naak sikor ke aur munh Fula ke baith jaata tha.” 😂😂
Malini laughs over this and asks, ” Malhar do you know anything about Asmita aunty’s operation?”
“Operation?” Malhar is surprised 😦😧😧”No, I don’t. Kunal hadn’t told me when I had met him the last time. He stays so cut off with everyone since a few months”
“Hmm.. he really stays so cut off, that’s the reason I think he is upset, may be not with us but due to some other problems. Shall we go once and meet him and Asmita aunty?”
“Sure, why not? Wait I am coming to your house in two minutes then we can go together.” Malhar hangs up, and says, “Sampada, I am going to visit Kunal.” “Okay, Malhar” He hurries down the stairs. Sampada gets happy and calls someone.
