Ragini: What ?.
Sujata: Yes beta they are very nice family. You will be very happy there.
Ragini(with little hurt and tears in her eyes): And you said yes to them.
Sujata(caressing her hairs): Yes , ragu. I said yes to them, but I also told them that the final decision will be yours.
Ragini: Mom I can’t do this marriage.
Sujata: I know… there is a reason for you behind saying no to this marriage. Ragini I never tried to know about your past but now I really wanted to know about your past.
Ragini(convincing her): Mom please try to understand, I can’t.
Sujata: Ok.. if you don’t want to tell me about your past then its ok but please tell me the reason for saying no to the marriage.
Listening marriage proposal ragini was thinking about her past when her thoughts were disturbed by sujata.
Sujata: Please beta tell me, it might happen that I may help you in something.
Seeing sujata ragini decided to tell her about her thoughts for marriage.
FLASHBACK
little ragini(about 6 to 7 years) was running around the house and her mom janki was feeding her dinner with running behind her, when suddenly the door of the house opened. They got shocked seeing shekhar in a drunken state.
Shekhar(in authoritative tone): Janki come to my room right now.
Ragini got scared and hide herself behind her mom holding her leg tightly. Janki understood that ragini is scared even she was scared but with a little courage she said
Janki(with a pleasing look): Shekhar let me first feed ragini and then I will come.
Shekhar was already frustated and when janki spoke against him he got boiled up and drag janki by her hairs. She cried in pain. Little ragini was not leaving her legs. Shekhar got more angry slapped her and took janki to his room. Little ragini started crying but with some courage she stood and headed towards her mom’s room. In the room shekhar pushed janki on the bed, closed the door and then removed her belt and started beating her. She was crying in pain but none was there to help her, then shekhar said
Shekhar(in angry voice) How dare you raise your voice against me ?. Already you have blacken my face by giving birth to ragini and now you are raising your voice. Today only because of your daughter my friends were laughing at me. She is nothing but just a black spot in my life.
Janki(with pain): Please shekhar don’t say anything about ragini. She is infact very lucky to me.
He got very frustrated and angry by listening her defending ragini so he said
Shekhar: Now you will get the punishment for defending her.
Saying this he forcefully makes physical relation with her. Janki was crying with pain but after sometime when shekhar slept due to alcohol effect she slowly stood up wore her clothes and walked out of the room to see ragini but what she saw was a shock to her. She saw ragini at the corner of the house in a sleeping position. She fastly came towards her, saw her lips bleeding and tried to woke her up but she was not waking, so she called her family docter.
Doctor: Janki , she fainted due to stress. I think there is some problem with her please try to understand her problem and cure her, and this are her medicine please give this time-to-time.
Janki: Don’t worry doctor I will try to understand her problem and thanks for coming.
Doctor: Its ok janki it is my duty to help. Bye.
Janki: Bye doctor.
Janki was sitting beside ragini and seeing her with lots of emotion and thinking about her past, that how her fate change when she married shekhar without her parents approval.
SUB FLASHBACK
Janki is from upper middle class family and she is the only daughter to her parents. In the college days she and shekhar were in love. When she told this to her parents her parents agreed to meet shekhar, but when they met him they did not feel that shekhar is a good person so they rejected him. Thinking that her parents rejected him for being a middle class person she got angry and in haste she married shekhar. Shekhar was living alone. Listening about the marriage her parents broke ties with her. After her marriage she decided to drop down her studies in the middle and then started leaving as a housewife.
After some days when he came to know that her parents broke ties with her he started behaving strangely with her like coming late from the college daily, smoking and drinking. When janki came to know about this she was angry and confronted him for his doings. Shekhar in a drunken and angry mood spills the truth that he never loved her but her body and money. She was broken and when she decided to go back to her parents she came to know that she is pregnant. She thought that as she is pregnant shekhar will start loving her and will change but to her misfortune shekhar never loved her but in that condition also he used to consummate with her. During delivery time her condition was critical and shekhar was not with her at that time. Then she delivered a baby girl. She always wanted to sing but due to her marriage she drop down that idea, but she wanted her daughter to sing so she named her ragini. She was thinking about how shekhar tortures her daily after delivering a girl but her thoughts were disturbed by ragini’s shivering hands.
END OF SUB FLASHBACK
Ragini what happened beta get up see your mumma is with you, with this she woke and saw her mumma and tightly hugged her and said
Ragini(with crying): Mumma is… is… it very paining. Did pa…papa beat you so much ?.
Janki was in shock that how come her ragini got to know that he had beat her so she asked her
Janki(in confused look): Who told you that your papa is beating me?
Ragini: Mumma I… I… heard your’s and papa’s talk. I was listening your voice. I got scared and ran and then I don’t remember. Mamma than what happened to me ?
Janki(hugging her and patting her back): Nothing You just fainted.
Ragini(still hugging her): Mumma why papa hates me so much and why does he always scold and beat you ?
Janki doesn’t know what to say as she don’t want to let ragu know the truth so she said
Janki: There are some secrets, between husband and wife that they should not tell to anyone and(while laying her on bed) its there secret (patting her head) now sleep tomorrow is your school.
Then all the upcoming years janki used to tell her some lie to keep ragini away from the truth so that ragini won’t be hurt but then something happened with ragini that she took the big decision to take her life at the age of 13 and then sujata came and took her to the orphanage.
END OF FLASHBACK
Saying this ragini broke down in front of sujata. Sujata too was crying but than she composed herself and hugged ragu and started rubbing her back and said
Sujata(while consoling ragini): Ragu this much happened and you didn’t tell me ?
Ragini(while crying): Wh..What sh.. should I tell you mom th..that my dad never loved me an..and by dad used to beat my maa. I never had the courage to tell you.
Sujata: shhhh…(rubbing her back) Stop crying ragu now I am there na(kissing her forehead) now nothing will happen to you. Ragu if you don’t mind will.. will you say me what happened to your mom.
Ragini was again lost in the past and she was shivering and her head start spinning and she fainted. Sujata panicked seeing her and she laid her on the bed and called the doctor.
Sujata: Doctor how is she now and what happened to her ?
Doctor: She is fine now but she got panic about something and she stressed herself so she fainted. I have given her injection she will get up after 3 hours, and if there is a problem than contact me.
Sujata: Thankyou doctor.
