Immersed in love

Sai who had already started getting intoxicated with the consumption of Vodka shouts at Virat asking him, “Why did you drink all my water? I wanted to have more water but you drank it all.” Virat tries to control her saying, “Sai that water wasn’t good for you.” Sai punches him on the chest asking, “Who are you to decide what is good and bad for me?” Virat gets hurt with that question and answers, “Am I nobody to you Sai?” Sai gets looking at him. Both share an eyelock. (Ghum hai kisikey pyaar mein tune plays in the background). Soon Sai realizes what she had been doing and quickly looks away. She sees a cricket bat kept in a corner, goes and takes it and starts beating Virat with it. Virat asks her, “Sai what are you doing?” Sai tells him “You always chose Patralekha over me, you tried to snatch my children away from me and you left me all to be with another woman, YOU MEAN NOTHING TO ME VIRAT!! You mean nothing to me!!” She keeps beating Virat black and blue making him get hurt badly. Finally, Virat gets hold of her hands, catches them tightly and stops her saying, “Enough Sai, Enough!! Do you think you were the only one hurt all this time? Do you even know what my state was when you had left me? Do you even know how I had spent all these years without you?” Sai was stunned and lets go of the bat. It falls down with a thud. Virat continues, “This is the problem with you and Pakhi. You both are so immersed in your own pain that you do not see my pain!!” Sai was taken aback. She asks him in a shaky voice, “Why were you hurt when I was not with you?” Virat lets go of his clutches on Sai after hearing that question. He reminsces his profession of love for Sai the last time when she had passed out and realizes that his love for her was the answer to her question. Virat quickly walks away and stands at a distance away from Sai to avoid that question. However, since he had drunk a greater portion of Vodka his head started feeling heavy. Sai who was completely inebriated by now, comes to Virat, catches his shoulder and pulls him around asking, “Tell me Virat why were you hurt without me?” Virat stays silent and tries to walk away once again but Sai pulls him this time. Virat who was gradually coming under the effect of Vodka lost his balance with the pull and falls down, Sai falls onto him. Soon the slow pitter-patter of the drizzling water was heard from outside. Virat’s face was covered by Sai’s soft, silky hair. He was slowly getting carried away by the scent of her hair and goes closer to her lips but Pakhi’s face flashes through his mind. He gets up quickly helping Sai too to stand on her feet. Sai after getting up had almost forgotten what they were talking about. She asks Virat, “What were we talking about Virat?” Virat realizes that Sai had forgotten about their conversation and tells her, “Surprise!!!” Sai asks him, “Surprise??” Virat, “Yes I was talking about the surprise which I have for you.” Sai excitedly, “What is it?” Virat, “I’ll bring it.” He goes to the Kitchen. Sai unable to balance herself to stand, says, “Uff-ho? Why is my head rotating? I think I should go and sit.” She goes to have a seat.

Inside the kitchen

Virat angrily bangs his hand on the kitchen slab remembering that he was about to kiss Sai. He tells, “God what was I about to do? All this is happening because of the effect of the alcohol. No I can’t let this happen. I’m the DCP of Nagpur, I have to control myself, I have to control myself!!!” Just then, Sai calls out, “Virat where is the surprise?” Virat rubs his eyes and tells Sai, “Yes bringing it Sai!!”

Outside

As Sai was waiting anxiously for the surprise, Virat forwards the two sticks of cotton candy in front of her. Sai feels elated on seeing it. She cries, “Cotton Candy? Where did you get them Virat?” Virat tells her, “Someone had left a cotton candy machine here so I thought of using it and making cotton candy for you because after all it’s your favorite right?” Sai gets looking at Virat, the latter reciprocates it. “Kaisa yeh rishta hai…Humko na samje…uditi hai patang jaise manjhe hai ulje……….ghum hai kisikey pyaar mein…..” plays in the background. Virat asks Sai, “Don’t you want to have it?” Sai tries to take a stick from Virat’s hand. She touches his hand, feels a chill and puts down it down. Both look at the fallen cotton candy disappointedly. Sai catches her ears and says sorry cutely to Virat. Virat looks at her affectionately. Kaisa yeh rishta hai plays in the background. Virat forwards his stick and says, “You can have this one Sai.” Sai asks, “Then what about you?” Virat remembers that even the corn and sugar syrup were over after he made these two sticks and tells her, “It’s okay I don’t want.” He turns around to leave when Sai catches his hand and says, “We can share this one together.” By now both were completely under the effect of Vodka. Virat looks at Sai and smilingly agrees. He sits beside Sai and takes a bite from the stick and then asks Sai to have it. Next, both playfully take a bite together and continue to do the same having fun with each other. Finally, the cotton candy comes almost to an end with just one bite of cotton left on the stick. Both Sai and Virat race forward to have it and accidentally their lips touch each other. A thunder breaks among the clouds outside.

Chavan Nivas

Virat and Pakhi’s marriage photo frame falls down and breaks. Pakhi gets up hearing the glass break and goes near to pick it up. Her hand pierces on one of the glass pieces and starts bleeding. Blood stains hers and Virat’s photograph. She looks at the stained photograph and tells, “Hopefully this is not an indication of any stain which might befall in mine and Virat’s relationship.”

Guest House

Sai tries to draw back from the awkward position when Virat catches her hands and intoxicatedly tells her, “You asked me why I felt hurt when you left me right?” Sai looked curiously into his eyes. Virat continues, “The answer is because…” Virat stops. Sai asks, “Because?” Virat softly, “Because I love you!!!” Ghum hai kisikey pyaar mein plays in the background. A tear rolls down Sai’s cheek. Virat wipes it, leans forward and kisses her lips. For a moment, Sai does not kiss back nor does she resist. She just stayed still as Virat pressed his lips gently onto hers. In a few minutes, Sai withdraws her lips from Virat’s, gets up quickly, trying to ignore Virat and goes to stand near the window to watch the slow pouring of water.

Virat watched her from behind. Sai let out her hand outside and caught the tiny droplets of water in her hand. Virat comes there and stands right behind her, Sai could feel his breath on her shoulder. Virat gradually takes his left hand and wraps it round her stomach while the other hand below the hand where she held the raindrops. Sai’s heart thumped fast however she does not move from her position. Virat bends close to her ears and says, “I know I kissed you earlier without asking you but now I’m asking you shall I kiss you?” Sai unconsciously turned around on hearing that and gazed intently at Virat. The latter does not waste a minute bends down and places his lips on hers and this time Sai kissed him back. After a few minutes of a passionate liplock, Sai withdrew her lips for a moment and breathlessly tells Virat, “I love you too Virat!” There was a sound of another thunder outside and the rain starts pouring with force.

Chavan Nivas

Pakhi while bandaging her hand looks at hers and Virat’s blood-stained photograph. She finishes the bandage, takes the photo and holds it closely to her heart saying, “Virat is my husband, just mine. I won’t let Sai have him ever.”

Guest House

Virat leisurely took Sai in his arms and took her to the bed. Then he removes his vest. His upper body was filled with bruise marks which resulted from Sai beating him up with the cricket bat. After undressing himself, he went ahead with unbuttoning the police uniform shirt which Sai had been wearing and embraces her in the warmth of his body. The passion which they had tightly repressed within them for seven years unleashed. Virat bit and kissed Sai all over as he was becoming one with her, while Sai gently touched his wounds and kissed them as if to heal them with her soothing touch. The consumption of Vodka had wiped away all the barriers between and made them IMMERSED IN LOVE.

As the time wiled, Virat filled Sai’s hair and back with kisses from behind while Sai kept watching the loud gushing of rainwater through the windows. It was as though the clouds and the rain overjoyed in Sai and Virat’s union. Sai starts humming, ghum hai kisikey pyaar mein…dil subah sham…Virat joins in humming with her, Par tumhe likh nahi paao…main uska naam…haaye raam…haaye ram….” The song continues. Gradually they dozed off in each other’s arms.

That night, whatever happened between Sai and Virat was not a result of lust but rather it was a result OUT OF THEIR LOVE which they had suppressed within themselves all these years.

Morning, Guest House

Sai and Virat are seen lying on the bed with their naked bodies covered with bed-sheets. They were turned towards the side where the sun shone brightly towards them. The sun shone at them as if it wanted to open a new chapter in their lives. Virat had his head on Sai’s hair, his left hand below Sai’s head and his other hand wrapped around her body and tightly held onto her right hand.

The old man came outside, opened the door and called them out saying, “Sir, Ma’am, it’s morning. I have opened the door, now you can return home.” Sai opens her eyes with bright sunlight streaming onto her eyes. Virat had not woken up as he had consumed more liquor the previous night. Sai slowly turned around without disturbing Virat, watches him, smiles and kisses on his forehead. Virat in his sleep smiles pulls Sai’s hand and kisses it. Just then Sai notices Virat’s wedding ring and remembers her words to Patralekha the previous day. She gets up quickly leaving Virat’s hand and cups her mouth reminiscing hers and Virat’s intimate moments of the previous night. She instantly covers her body with a bed-sheet and gets up to leave when Virat tightly clasps her hand in sleep saying, “Mala soduna jau nakosa Sai” (Don’t leave me and go Sai). Sai gazed sadly at a sleeping Virat.

At that moment, Sai was standing between two roads of her life. Love and Self-Respect. What will she choose?
