Opinion – ‘Bhagya’ to letter ‘P’: Ekta Kapoor’s hit show secret mantra revealed

Let’s find out what always makes Ekta Kapoor’s shows so liked and famous and what is Ekta Kapoor’s hit show secret mantra!!

Ekta Kapoor, popularly hailed as the ‘content czarina’ of the industry, has helped to showcase more than 100 popular characters on Indian Television. Ekta has also made it a point to help and change the portrayals of women in society through her work with content-driven cinematic projects.

With a wide range of TV Serials, films, and web shows, there is no screen that is untouched and unconquered by the content queen, Ekta.

But what helps her crack the success code every single time? Is there a magic formula?

Well, she certainly seems to have some common connections between shows, which can be termed as her lucky charm/s. Let’s dig more:

Ekta kickstarted a new genre on television with her K-serials. Ekta’s Balaji Telefilms had produced the most popular shows namely Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kasautii Zindagii Kay. All her popular shows seem to draw a thread of success from the letter K.

Moving on from K, the term ‘Bhagya’ is her latest ‘go to’ word.  She came up with the TV show Kumkum Bhagya, then Kundali Bhagya, Naagin – Bhagya Ka Zehreela Khel and latest being Pavitra Bhagya.

There is more to it. In recent years, all popular Balaji shows have names of their female protagonists starting with the letter ‘P’. Kumkum Bhagya has Pragya (Sriti Jha) and she also has a daughter named Prachi (Mugdha Chaphekar). In Kumkum Bhagya spin-off – Kundali Bhagya we have our beloved Preeta being played by Shraddha Arya.

Uncanny, isn’t it? or well planned?

Continuing on the ‘P’ factor, in Yeh Hai Chahatein, which is the story of a single mother, the character has the name Preesha (Sargun Kaur Luthra). On the other hand, Bepanah Pyaar and Pavitra Bhagya had female leads named Pragati (Ishita Dutta) and Pranati (Aneri Vajani) respectively. Lastly, in Molkki, the lead actress Priyal Mahajan’s on-screen name is Purvi.

In the past too, Balaji shows like Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii and Bade Acche Lagte Hain had Sakshi Tanwar playing the roles of Parvati and Priya.

Well, is it an astrological formula of success or some other ideology behind the same, whatever be it, we must say it is working wonders for the TV queen Ekta.
