“Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy! I am shifting to a new house today! I am so happy today!” screamed little Swara. Her mum who was keenly packing the stuff looked at her and smiled at her. Her dad who was talking to the shifters threw an annoyed look at Swara.
“Will you be quiet Swara? Show some decency!!” her dad said. Swara just grinned at him but continued dancing.
Her dad shook his head and smiled and gave directions to the shifters.
“Mum, can I go and say good bye to everyone in our neighbourhood?” Swara asked.
“Ok sweetheart! But come home before we leave.” sumi said.
“Love you sumi! You’re the best!!! Bye!!” Swara pecked her mum’s cheek and ran outside.
She said good bye for everyone even the stray dogs and strangers. It got quite late when she was returning home. She had tears in her eyes. Her sumi was about to yell at Swara but stopped when she saw tears in Swara’s eyes.
“Honey! Why r u crying? Is it because u r leaving your friends? “Sumi asked concerned.
Swara sobbed and shook her head.
“Then y r u crying?” sumi asked.
“Actually Rita aunty was cooking and I helped her to cut onions that’s y I was crying!” Swara said and sobbed again.
“Silly girl! Come, it’s time to go…” her mum said and dragged her to their car. Swara waved one last time to her friends who had come to see her go before the engine started and went away.
It was it was 2:00 in the early morning when they reach the new home Swara was super excited.
“Mum can I go outside and explore? “Swara asked excitedly.
“Not now sweetheart, you must be tired come let’s go to bed.” sumi said but Swara stubbornly refuse.
“I wanna go! I wanna go! I WANNAA GOOO!!” Swara screamed.
“SWARA!!TO BED NOW!!!!!!!!!!!” sumi said in a strict voice. Swara sulked.
Sumi dragged Swara to bed and tucked her in bed.
“Good night!” sumi said and went out.
Swara stayed quietly in her bed waiting for dad to snore. Once she heard the sound she silently got dressed and made her way down the stairs and quietly unlocked the door.
“I am not a kid mum!” she said to herself and crept out and walked in the empty lane.
She saw something blue lying at the far end of the lane. She went near the blue object and picked it up. It was a beautiful, simple and elegant necklace. It look so pretty that she was tempted to wear it. She looked around for the owner but couldn’t find anyone so she wore it. The necklace glowed. She smiled. She went on walking. Suddenly she didn’t know what she was doing and started running.
She couldn’t think properly. Everything was a blur. She wanted her legs to stop but her legs refused to obey her. Suddenly she stopped. She was panting and she took a look around her and she got scared.
She took a step behind. She knew not where she was nor what she was doing here but all she knew was she was lost. She was surrounded by creepy looking trees and darkness.
She mentally cursed herself for not obeying her mother. She was scared. She took a step forward. She could hear the wind blowing and the trees rustling and the dead sticks and leaves cracking on her step. Everything was so spooky. She started sobbing.
Suddenly she heard someone laugh. That sent a shiver down her spine. She heard footsteps. Heavy ones. THUD!! THUD!! It was getting closer every second.
She heard the laugh again. This time more closely and more….. More….more scary. She heard a spooky tune hummed. “It was probably a girl because it was soft. “Swara thought to herself.
Suddenly she felt a hand on her shoulder. It was so cold. So cold that it made Swara shiver.
“Helllllooooo!” she heard someone whisper in her ear.
She turned around expecting a figure with an eye and decayed body and hair strewn over her face but instead she saw a pretty young girl with ice blue eyes and fair skin complexion.
She smiled at Swara.
“Hi! I am ragini. And u r?”
“Em……Em….Em….”she stuttered
“Oh hi em! Nice to meet u, sorry for scaring u, but I couldn’t help it, u was so scared. Sorry again and u really shouldn’t be roaming the woods alone at night!” said ragini
“It’s Swara! And I didn’t know where I was going. I couldn’t think properly.”
“Oh Swara! Nice name! And ………….. (Ragini looked at Swara’s neck and smiled.) that’s my necklace.” Ragini said.
“Oh I am sorry and here is you necklace.” Swara said and was about to remove it but ragini indicated her not to.
Swara smiled at her.
“U can keep it if u become friends with me. I am so lonely in the woods and cemetery.” Ragini said.
“Sure we can be friends. But y are u in the woods and cemetery? “Swara asked.
“Umm…. I live near the cemetery and come woods every day to work here.” Ragini said.
“Oh cool. So um what do we do now? I am lost and I want to know my way home. Can u help me?” Swara asked.
“Sure, but before that lets chat and have fun!” ragini said.
“Sure! Come on let’s go!!!!” Swara said.
First both had a race to the beach. (Don’t ask from where the beach came.)
The both started and playing in the sand and wetted their legs and pushed each other in water. They had a fun time. Both came out dripping wet.
Next they went to the playground. Swara sat on the swing and ragini pushed her. Then ragini sat on the swing and Swara pushed her. They both played a long time there.
Then they had another race. They both had maximum fun. Finally both were laughing and too tired to play anything and both dragged themselves to the beach. (Guys ragini is directing her to these places.)
Both sat down. The sky was a little lit up. It was dawn.
“U r a fun person. But don’t say me u r alone.” Swara said.
“well I live near the cemetery an everyone always finds me there, I mean who would want a girl who works and stays in the cemetery.?” Ragini said.
“I will. Best friends” Swara said and shook hands with ragini.
“It’s getting late I wanna go home.” Swara said.
Ragini stood up and dusted her dress.
“Come Swara and close your eyes.”
Swara was confused but closed her eyes.
“Wait where can I find u?” Swara said.
“In the cemetery.” Ragini replied.
“But……” Swara said.
“Shhhhh….. Now walk trust me.” ragini said.
Swara smiled and walked with her eyes closed but she could feel raginis tight and supporting grip on her.
Suddenly they stopped.
“Don’t open your eyes and listen to me carefully. “Ragini said.
Swara nodded.
“If u want to meet me again…
Just close Ur eyes and hold your chain
And say my name…
Open your eyes and I will be there right in front of u…” ragini said and said her to open her eyes.
She did and turned around and saw ragini missing and found herself standing in front of her own house. She was perplexed but still she ran in to her house….. Room…changed her clothes and went to bed.
When she awoke it was late and she found her mum arranging the kitchen and asked her the directions to the cemetery. Her sumi said it and without wasting a sumient she ran and called raginis name. But no reply. She saw so many peoples grave and read every names just for curiosity. She came to a stone and stopped dead when she saw the name. It was… ragini….
She remembered what she said at last.
“If u want to meet me again…
Just close Ur eyes and hold your chain
And say my name…
Open your eyes and I will be there right in front of u…”
She smiled looking at the grave…
The end….
