Well, love catches you at times when you aren’t even aware of your own self……when you believe you are happy leading a life all clustered by career and job and money….but when it happens…it just does …and it is then you realize how much happier you could be…falling in love is beautiful….we don’t decided who we fall in love with, right? And maybe, its even okay….because the best thing about love is its unpredictability…
Arjun Mehra was a self made man……growing up with only his mother had made him humble and hardworking……he had devoted his entire life to fulfill his mother’s dream, the only woman he ever loved in his life….neither did he have any time for girls and nor he cared.
He was now working as a software engineer in one of the biggest companies of the world. For him, life closed doors after his job and his mother.
One day, he came back from the office…all happy and smiling…..his mother smiled and asked, “arjun, what happened beta?”
Arjun excitedly hugged her, surprising her completely. Her 26 year old son was behaving 5 year old kid…..but she didn’t care as long he was happy…..he was the only person she had in the name of family and she could anything for him.
Arjun broke the hug and handed over a letter to her….she raised her eyebrows looking at him but he just motioned for her to open the letter…….it was a letter of promotion….not it was her turn to squeal with joy….., “I am so proud of you, son.”
Arjun’s eyes brimmed with happy tears……he wiped them and spoke, “pack your bags…..we are moving to Mumbai!”
She nodded…..
He called up neil, his best friend and gave him the news…
Neil was on the moon….he had shifted to Mumbai, two years back ….and he was finally glad to be in the same city as his best buddy after so long….
Arjun asked him, “bro, are you aware of any rental accommodations, near by?”
Neil, “mr.arjun mehra….i live alone in an entire apartment…..guess, you wont be having any problem moving in with me?”
Arjun made him understand, “neil, wouldn’t have thought of anything else if it was just me,….but yaar, mom is also coming with me…”
Neil understood, “well, actually, there is a house for rent near by, the owners have two houses in a row….they live in one and are looking for renting the other….if you want I can set up a meeting with them.”
arjun left after two days, for making arrangements………he met the owners and they turned to be lovely people….and the house…….. the house was just splendid….arjun fell in love with it instantly….it was the kind of house, people dreamed of…….a sprawling villa with calming quietness engulfing it….with black and green vines growing on the outer wall, which could just relax your mind with a single glance…..the house had a old and calming look yet had modern and comfortable interiors……
arjun signed the contract then and there….and the mother son duo officially shifted there within a week. Well, life didn’t change much for him, he still followed the same routine in yet another different city…..he never imagined that the love of his life was right in front of his eyes, yet he never bothered to look.
One evening, he was going to his mom up from the market…..he was walking hurriedly to his car, which was parked outside….he bumped into a girl….they both fell down, arjun quickly got up and offered his hand to the girl to help her back on her feet….she took it……arjun was embarrassed to the core, this sort of a thing didn’t happen to him ever before….he always had been conscious of his surroundings…
He apologized profusely…..the girl laughed a little and spoke in a chirpy, “relax…..its okay….never mind..it happens.”
Arjun looked her face….she was angelic…..long black midnight like hair, falling down till her waist…they were flowing in air with the breeze, as if teasing her skin……her skin….so flawless and beautiful……her big brown orbs winking as she smiled.
Arjun looked lost….she continued, “you must be arjun…right?”
Arjun broke out of his trance, “y-yeah…that’s me….but how do you know?”
Girl smiled broadly, “ aunty told me….”
Arjun paused for a while, “I don’t recognize you….how do you know her?”
She was so bubbling and comfortable, she was already relaxed in arjun’s company…it seemed as if she knew him from a while. “well, Mr. mehra….you would, if you weren’t so busy all the while….*she forwarded her hand to him* radhika…..i live next door to you”
It clicked to arjun…he spoke taking her hand for strong shake, “oh yeah….so you are Mishra uncle, my landlord’s daughter?”
Radhika smiled, “yeah that’s me….”
She paused for a couple of minutes and then slapped her forehead as if remembering something, “arjun, why isn’t your phone reachable……aunty tried to call you 4-5 times….and then she called me…..she is stuck in the market and its getting late….she asked me to pick her up.”
Arjun’s eyes widened, he had completely forgotten that he came out to pick his mom up and was now chatting with radhika.
Radhika giggled at him expression, “never mind….i’ll go….you go where ever you were.”
Arjun gave her a goofy smile, “actually, I was going to pick her up only…..but since she called you as well, why don’t you join me, if isn’t too much to ask..”
Radhika smiled and pulled open the passenger side door of his car, she spoke before entering, “don’t you be so formal yaar……friends?”
Arjun smiled, “friends”
He was driving and radhika was looking out the window, humming a song…. Arjun glanced at her, “I didn’t know that you and my mom were so close..”
Radhika looked at him and relied, “yeah…she taught me to cook a few dishes….and I usually spend my evenings with her….since she son is a big boy, all time busy in office…”
She laughed…..arjun tried keeping an angry face for a couple of seconds. But radhika’s laugh was so infectious that he too started.
This was how it all started…..they began exchanging pleasantries on seeing each other…..
After some days, arjun started finding his mom and radhika having a gala time when he came back from office…..slowly, he too began spending his weekends with radhika gardening, cooking…baking…..doing all sorts of stuff. He used to love when she smiled, when she pulled his leg….the way she tucked her hair back her ear shell….well, in a nut shell, he started liking everything about her….
She was the first girl, expect his mom, who actually found a place in his heart.
A week passed, another did….he hadn’t met radhika…..he hadn’t seen when he came back from office…..her mother talk about her…..it all made him restless……he asked him mom, “mom, where is radhika….havent seen her in a while….neither do I find her spending time with you…..did something happen?”
Her mother just knowingly, finally, his feelings were coming up to surface, “beta….she has gone to grandmother’s house,,…will be returning back tmmrw night….”
Arjun nodded…….his mother observed him keenly and smiled…..she spoke after a couple of minutes, “arjun beta, she is good girl…..perfect for you….i know you like her and even I do….go get her, my boy….before somebody else does.”
Arjun nodded and hugged his mom…..she understood each and every word he wanted to say but couldn’t.
The next evening, radhika came back……arjun saw her coming back from his window, yet he didn’t go down….he wanted to talk to her alone……
That night, she was taking a walk in the garden….when arjun came behind and surprised her..
Arjun suddenly went on one knee….shocking her completely….he pulled out a red rose from behind his back and offered it to her, “radhika, I don’t know how these kind of things are done……I don’t know one thing about relationships but I am hoping that you’ll teach me….true, it will take time for me to be the perfect guy for you, but trust me, I learn fast….i know you may have doubts about me right now….but I promise you wont regret…..i love you.”
Radhika had tears in her eyes…..finally, the guy she loved was standing of her proposing her…..it was dream come true….it was all she every wanted…..
She accepted the rose and made him stand…..she held his hands and looked deep in his eyes, “arjun you are already perfect for me…..i love you.”
Arjun hugged her tight…..she snuggled even closer to him….finally, he had his life sorted.….arjun kept his chin on her head and closed his eyes…..
