Balvant addresses villagers and says today i begin my work here and we have Ram Navami and as new head lets celebrate this festival and we will do Pooja of this Ramji Idol, Kulkarni says it is a very pretty idol it looks so lively, I feel like worshiping whoever made it. Keshav says Sai made it, Balvant says we will have a procession and then murti Stahphna and Pooja. Kulkarni says you do Pooja this time Balvant. Balvant says let Ramji make a decision. Balvant says this box has names of all villagers including me and Kulkarni. Kulkarni will pick one name and he will get the opportunity to do pooja from Palkhi to the temple.
Keshav says everyone isn’t here, Basti people aren’t here. Santa Banta say to him, you said villagers, so I didn’t go to Basti.
Savari asks Sai, where are
Kulkarni says why do we need Basti people. Keshav says Kaka said the whole village and so Basti people should be here right Kaka. Balvant says yes they should be here but. Sai says okay we will wait here and participate. Kulkarni says to the lower caste, Fakhri Sai brought you here without any reason because you can’t do Pooja. Keshav says why can’t they. Kulkarni says don’t object to old rituals. Sai says Kulkarni, who are we to stop these people from worshiping, when Ramji himself had fruits from Shabri and this box should have Basti people names as well because this idol is made out of soil from their land. Balvant wipes his hand.
Mahesh says I agree with Sai and I am sure Baba wont deny, Balvant says Basti people have full right but because of Santa Banta their name chits weren’t made and I am late for other works so this time lets go ahead with these names and next time we can add theirs. A man says we have chits ready. (Sai asked him to bring chits in booth today afternoon)
He places the chits in box.
Balvant asks Kulkarni to pick a name, Kulkarni says first close eyes and recites Ramji’s name 11 times, Sai says very good let’s do it, everyone closes eyes. Kulkarni sees everyone has eyes closed and checks all names and discards names of lower caste and hides his name chit between his fingers. Everyone opens eyes, Kulkarni acts as if he is searching and gives the chit already in his hand to Mahesh and says read it out loud. Mahesh opens chit and smiles, and says Ramji has selected Savari. Kulkarni and Balvant surprised. Sai smiles.Lower caste people are surprised too.
Gangadhar looks at Savari and leaves. Kulkarni says to Mahesh read it properly, Kulkarni takes chit and thinks I threw a chit of her name, how did this happen.
Sai says to Savari, congratulations Ramji chose you, Savari says how can I, Kulkarni says she stammers, how will she do Ram raksha path and she is not educated too. Savari says Sai he is right. Sai says I will take responsibility for teaching her. Kulkarni says sorry she can create hurdles in the situation. Balvant says let’s do one thing if she can’t let Tejasvi do it. Sai says I like this suggestion.
Balvant thinks of the whole day and how he touched the idol made of lower caste people’s soil. Kusum walks to him, he asks her to get ganga jal and puts it over Ramji idol and asks Kusum to pick it and says lets go from the back door so that no one sees us.
