Mayuri Deshmukh reveals the reason behind quitting Imlie

Mayuri Deshmukh who is known for essaying the role of Malini in Imlie will be bidding farewell to the show post the leap. Imlie is all set to witness a major leap and the actress has quit the show because she does not want to play mother to grown-up kids in the show.

Mayuri talked about it during a recent interview with BT and shared, “My journey as Malini was interesting and filled with many shades. Now the show is taking a leap and I was always clear f that I would not want to play mom to adults or even teenagers. So, I have quit the show.”

Talking about her role breaking bad in the show, the actress said, “I agree it was a drastic shift. TV is a TRP-driven industry and the script changes accordingly, so after almost a year of playing a positive Malini, who would sacrifice for her step-sister, when the makers told me that my character was going to turn negative, it did come as a jerk. I was not convinced initially, but then I felt it will be a bigger challenge to make people hate my character. And I worked hard on it. Had the audience been indifferent to my turning negative, I would have felt bad but a section of the audience did start hating me and I felt that my character had achieved its target. However, Malini loyalists did feel that my turning negative was not convincing enough for them. I have never played such a villainous character before, but now people know that I can do it.”

When asked about her future plans, Mayuri replied, “TV is a great medium to work for because it gives you fame like no other. I have been doing a lot of work but the kind of fame Imlie gave, is something else. TV does get predictable sometimes because of the rating game, but it also gives you good work and money at the end of the day. At the same time, I am open to Marathi web, TV shows, films, or any other medium. I want to explore more as an actor.”
