Marring the Seclusion – part 6

if you feel you missed part 5, here is the link

The serene moment was broken as a phone ringed from the side table and the familiar tone suggested it was hers, the man too jolted who was now sitting on the far cornered chair in the room and was helping his son sipping water from the little plastic spoon and he looked up to the table and then to her.

They were back to themselves and suddenly he noticed her and realization dawned, “what he was doing here and where was his mother?”

Panic started gripping her too about what she was going to say her mother in law about where she was all this time and the worst if something bad happened …again. Thinking all the things she stretched to take the phone from the table where all her belongings have been kept.

“hello.” Swiping the screen she took the call and hesitant about the presence in the room she started to move to leave the room but then the man understood and with his son left the room.

“Where are you, Krishna?” troubled yet calm voice of her mother in law came. ‘I had tried half an hour back too.”

“I am ….i am at hospital Ma.” She said wanting her to be there, for she didn’t want to be alone here again if something bad had happened.

“Ma, where had you been? He asked as soon as he spotted his mother with the doctor progressing to the room.

“I was just here son,  gone to call doctor for the girl inside.” She explained joining him and doctor entered inside.

“But you two look perfectly fine, was there some vaccine of Arth pending?” he asked as soon as they were alone.

“no Sayyam, actually I had come with Arth to the ……” she hesitated in taking the name of the mall. “I had come out with Arth to take a walk and that’s when this girl collapsed, she seemed of a decent family and I felt bad to leave her there.” She completed.

“Oh….so now let’s go home.” He said already walking to the direction of exit.

“Sayyam wait…. she looked nervous and weak .i was thinking why don’t we stay here till her family comes.” She said lowly.

“but Arth would be hungry…

“yes, you are right .you go home with Arth, I will come as someone from her family arrives.”

“Okay, as you feel right.” he said and started moving to the exit.

Here thinking to wait till the Doctor comes outside she sat on one of the three shining black chairs in the corridor.

“You need to come with me to another room Miss….the Doctor in her stern voice waited for her.

“Krishna…. and doctor, everything alright?” she asked.

“Well, you are pregnant but your pulse rate and eyes says otherwise,” doctor expressed her opinion.

“What do you mean doctor?” she was a bit alarmed now.

“It seems you are not taking care of you.” The doctor said writing something on the paper. “We need to run few tests to tell you how the fetus is doing?”

“okay.” she sighed getting up.

“You seem in your first trimester, I had to talk to you I was waiting for you to get up.” Doctor said as soon as she straightened.

“Hun, nearly 13 weeks.” She replied taking the little bag and shawl from the table.

“you should not be going places alone if you feel too much nauseous , you can black out with no one knowing …thanks to that lady today, you are saved and you are not bleeding ,it seems baby too is fine.”

Finally the doctor smiled to  her, maybe she felt the lady before her was stressed out already but Doctor too was facing women everyday who risked their fetus because they didn’t know the careless attitude of their.

“Young lady, smile more…it will help your baby. You know that…right?” with that doctor opened the door.

“This stern attitude won’t help you changing the environment around you but your smile will surely.” Echoed his voice somewhere in her heart and she felt a smile spreading on her face.

“Ma’am you can take your leave now, she has informed her family. Someone will be coming soon.”The doctor politely told the lady sitting on the chair out of room.

“its okay Doctor, and dear…you okay?” she asked as soon Krishna came out of the room covering her in the shawl.

“Excuse me Doctor, tell me the room…I will join you in a moment if that’s fine with you…please.” Krishna requested.

Understanding her plea doctor smiled, “the last room in the right corridor.” and ordering the ward boy coming to them to prepare the machines she left to her cabin.

“ummmm, thank you auntie..” she hesitantly said.

“its okay dear and you should be taking care of you more.” Seema smiled to her but she couldn’t stop the tears which came on their own in her cores.

“Eat well dear, mother is so important for a child…you should never be neglecting your child.” The always hidden agony came to her lips. “By the way go doctor will be waiting for you and I will wait here till someone comes from your family.”

‘it’s alright auntie, I will manage…your grandson will be missing you.” She suddenly recalled the baby and the man too.

“oh, he is home with his dad. He is closest to him.” Seema again felt herself on the verge of crying and before she could have lost it ward boy called Krishna.

“okay auntie…I need to go now.” She said trying to smile a little.

“Go dear, everything will be alright and what’s your name?”

‘Krishna….” She replied.

“Okay go Krishna…lord Krishna will be seeing you.” Assuring her she prayed for the same.

“It was hard to say was she baffled with or was angry on her daughter in law… what happiness she got going to that place, now she had no clue what had happened.” Hoping to see her well with her eyes she entered the hospital.

Asking about her she turned to the direction she was told and thinking to ask the nurse passing from the corridor she called her and as she took Krishna’s name-

Another lady from one of the chairs came to her. “You are searching Krishna?” she asked and here thinking maybe this lady knew something she nodded.

“Come with me.” and together both the ladies walked to the room Krishna was undergoing some tests.

“Sorry, I don’t remember you, are you one of our neighbors? Actually I don’t live here so… Nandita Singh, a lady of few words asked taking the chair.

“No, actually I had been walking with my grandson when this young lady collapsed….

And a grasp left the other lady’s mouth…. Is she okay?”

“Yeah, she is fine; doctors are running a few tests to confirm everything is alright.” Seema assured the baffled lady.

“Thank you so much ….i cannot tell how big favor you have done to me.” Nandita genuinely thanked her.

“it’s alright and I think now that you have come here I should be leaving.” She said getting up. “and Tell your son in law to take care of his wife well.” Trying to lift the mood Seema suggested.

“I wish he was here” the lady of a few words whispered and then coming to reality said…” she is my daughter in law by the way.”

“oh I thought you were her mother….and is something wrong?” Seema asked concernedly taking the seat beside her again.

After a few seconds of silence Seema heard her voice stifled with tear-clogged throat “You too heard the store Mishap here a few weeks back….we lost my son there.” She said making no attempt to stop her tears if the other lady was going to show pity on her.

“You too….” Whispered Seema visibly shaken with the new information.
