In life, you will realize that there is a purpose for everyone to meet you.
Some people come into your life to test you, some to teach you, some to use you, and some to bring out the very best in you.

There will always be a reason you meet people.
Either you need them to change your life, or you are ones that’ll change theirs.

Author’s POV

The morning comes as if even the clouds have inner grins.

The sun came up dribbling its golden light over the land like syrup on oatmeal. The green leaves shimmered like an emerald while the apples glowed more rosy than they do in the day shine. The morning dew sparkled on the bejeweled grass, making it look so suave.

Every sunrise gives you a new beginning and a new ending.

This morning came as a new beginning to a better relationship and a new ending to the bad memories in both Riddhima’s and Vansh’s life.

Through the frame of the window, the vibrant glow of a new day falls upon Vansh’s face followed by the mellifluous song of the birds.

Squinting his eyes, Vansh adjusted himself to the golden-yellow appearance of the room.

Uma gave him a cheerful smile which he reciprocated with his famous ear-to-ear smile followed by a good morning. Uma was happy to see her old Vansh back.

Few minutes later the doctor came in and started examining Vansh.

“Is it paining?” asked the doctor after checking out his leg.

“No, but when I try to get up, it pains a little” replied Vansh in a calm tone.

“That’s because of the weight. Avoid putting weight on your injury” the doctor stated.

“Ok doctor.”

“Consume a diet high in nutrients such as Vitamin D, calcium, and zinc for bone recovery.
Make sure you’re getting enough calories and protein. This would speed up your recovery” advised the doctor.

“Yes doctor, I will” came his instant reply.

“Great!” the doctor exclaimed, “Today we are shifting you to an another ward. I hope you won’t mind it.”

“Not at all doctor” he replied with a chuckle.

The doctor was surprised to see a sudden change in his behavior. Unlike yesterday, today he was attentively listening to all the instructions and was replying to each of his questions.

Today one could see a different spark in his eyes. A spark which was enough to tell others that he won’t easily give up. A spark which symbolized his newly built hope.

After completing the necessary arrangements, Vansh was all ready to be shifted to another ward.

Pushing his wheelchair, Ahaan led Vansh to his new ward. From the nursing staff, they got to know that it was a ward with bed for two patients, one of which was already occupied by a girl.

The thought of sharing his room with a girl irked Vansh. But he did not have any other option. He just hoped that the girl wasn’t like Ahaana, clingy and pesky. Little did he knew that the girl was nowhere near his imagination.

Vansh’s POV

Passing through several hospital wards, I felt very strange. People were looking me as if I were a ghost. I don’t know why but deep inside I felt restless. Was it because of the constant gazes of the people or something else?

Anyways! I’m least bothered about the glances of the people.

Clicking the door open, Ahaan led me inside the ward. It was a ward painted with the combination of blue and white, which symbolizes heaven and purity. And that was totally true.

The ward was as serene as heaven and every corner of it screamed purity, be it the creamy brown curtain that flattered aimlessly or the invigorating air that made me feel so calm.

Two beds arranged neatly separated by a curtain were lying in the middle of the ward, surrounded by the necessary hospital equipment.

As I was observing the ward, my eyes fell on a tiny figure standing by the window. Though I couldn’t see the person’s face, but the way those long, silky hairs trailed down over her shoulders, I could make it out that it was a girl.

“Riddhima, come here. It’s time for your medicines” I heard a familiar voice call out.

Turning my head towards the owner of the voice, I felt elated. It was Sarah, my best friend.

After examining me for sometime she squealed in delight. Still the same Sarah, who would become happy at small things.

“Vansh! How are you?”

“I’m fine Sarah! How are you?”

“I’m as fit as a fiddle” she replied cheerfully.

“That’s great.”

Sarah was my friend during school days. Although we opted for different careers, we still were in touch with each other.

Sarah was a happy-go-lucky girl with a positive attitude. She was always carefree but did not take her studies lightly. Working hard day and night, she always topped her class. She wanted to become a doctor and seeing her standing in front of me in that doctor’s uniform, I felt very proud.

“Ok, we’ll talk later, first let me attend my patient.”

“Ok” I said and shifted my gaze towards the window, where the girl was standing. Surprisingly, she was nowhere to be seen.

What was her name? Radhika.. Riddhika..Riddhima… Yes! Riddhima. But where is she?

“Take your medicines Riddhima” I heard Sarah call out.

There she is. Sitting on the bed with Sarah standing next to her. So Riddhima is the patient with whom I’m sharing my bed. Not bad. But I was not able to see her face because Sarah was blocking my view.

As if listening my thoughts, Sarah shifted and I saw her for the first time.

My heart skipped a beat seeing her natural beauty. Her skin was fair with excellent features. Her midnight-black hairs plunged over her shoulders, while her dried pink lips were busy answering to the doctor’s questions. She had a dainty nose which was now red in colour. Those doe-shaped eyes looked red and swollen, indicating that she had been crying. Her crescent shaped eyebrows inclined slightly as she saw me staring at her.

What! I was staring a girl and the girl caught me staring.

Ghosh! This was embarrassing.

Averting my gaze I asked Ahaan to take me to my bed. He smirked looking at me. What’s wrong with him?

“Someone got caught red-handed staring at girl” Ahaan said with a playful smile. So this was the reason he was smirking.

“Ahaan I’m tired. Let me take rest” I replied in a boring tone as I was in not at all interested in his stupid talks.

“Oh! So you got tired staring that girl. What was her name? Was it Ruhika or..”

“It’s Riddhima.” I stated. He doesn’t even know how to pronounce her name. Idiot.

“So you even know her name” I squeezed my eyes as he said this. So he did this all deliberately.

“Ahaan will you stop it or I tell Sarah that you like her.”

“No.” came his instant reply.

Ahaan liked Sarah since college days but did not tell her about this because once a boy proposed Sarah during college and the way she treated him was just enough to scare Ahaan. Poor Ahaan is now scared to confess his feelings in front of her.

“So stop this blabbering of yours and leave me alone.”

“Isn’t she beautiful?” Ahaan said while I glared him and he ran outside the ward.

“She is beautiful” I murmured reminiscing her natural beauty but, something was amiss.

They say the eyes are windows that shows the emotions, the language of the soul. And the way her rheumy eyes aimlessly wandered nowhere, depicted the loneliness she lived in. Those eyes of her spoke of a lonely soul, which was deprive any happiness. Her movements told of a need for nurture.

I knew right then, that all she needed was happiness, care and most importantly love, something steady to hold onto and in passing time, those eyes would shine as they were born to.

But how? How would I help her?

Sarah! Yes she can help me.

Thinking about the various ways to rescue the forlorn soul, I drifted into sleep.

Riddhima’s POV

“Riddhima, come here. It’s time for your medicines” I heard Sarah’s voice and I made my way towards my bed.

I could see Sarah talking with someone. Thinking it to be her patient, I didn’t pay much attention to it. Making myself comfortable on my bed, I waited for Sarah to come.

“That’s great” I heard a husky voice and could make out that the one Sarah was talking to was a man.

Finishing her conversation, Sarah moved towards me and gave me my medicines.

“How are you feeling?” asked Sarah.

“Better” I replied as usual.

“So what you gonna do now?”

“Means” I asked confused.

“Riddhima, in few days you’re going to get discharged. What have you thought about your life?” Sarah asked with concern-laced voice.

Don’t know why, I had a feeling as if someone was watching me. Lifting my head, I moved my eyes to see who it was only to see a pair of dark brown eyes looking me.

It was a man who was sitting on a wheelchair with his left leg fractured. He had black hairs and scythe-shaped eyebrows. He carried an imperious nose with well-defined jawline. His wrestler’s shoulders were part of his burly physique. His dark brown orbs were busy observing me.

But why was he staring me. Is there something on my face? I inclined my eyebrows feeling uncomfortable. And the moment his eyes met mine, he averted his gaze and looked everywhere but me. Saying something to the boy behind him, he moved further.
