♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦

Take all the time you need to heal emotionally.
Moving on doesn’t take a day, it takes lots of little steps to be able to break free of your broken self.

Be strong enough to walk away from those who continue to hurt you.
Be brave enough to walk alone until you find the one that deserve you.

Author’s POV

After a long cold night the sunrise illuminated the blue sky as if it were igniting the most perfect flame. The golden light softly caressed the land and ignited the birds into a chorus of melodies.

You’d think the road would be empty at six in the morning. Everyone should be asleep, right? Maybe except a few doctors and nurses, those wonderful folks the world can’t turn without. One such doctor was Sarah.

Sarah parked her car in the hospital parking lot. Getting off the car with all her necessary requirements, she headed towards her cabin. On her way towards her cabin, she was greeted by her enthusiastic colleagues, whom she greeted back with equal zeal.

The way her face glowed and eyes sparkled was enough to let people know that today she was determined.

Doing all the necessary formalities, she went to check on her patients. One by one she examined all her patients and she at last headed towards Riddhima’s ward. If it would be any other day, she would rush to her ward at the earliest, but today she chose to attend Riddhima at the rearmost.

Opening the door, Sarah stepped inside the ward only to find Riddhima sitting on the bed and looking outside the window.

“Why don’t you go there as usual?” Sarah asked bringing Riddhima out of her thoughts.

“Actually there’s an another patient in the ward. I didn’t want to disturb him” Riddhima replied in a low tone.

“Oh! I see.”

“Well did you do your exercises?” asked Sarah.

“Yes.”

“Good!”

Examining Riddhima for a couple of minutes, Sarah made Riddhima go through some brain training games, which would not only make her memory sharp, but also improve her state of mind.

Sarah was happy as Riddhima did quite well in all the games. Although, her performance was not that good, she knew that it would improve in the coming time.

“Now let’s discuss the topic we left we yesterday” Sarah said keeping the jigsaw puzzle on the side table. Riddhima made an uninterested face but she continued, “I was asking that what have you thought about your life, your future? And let me tell you, I don’t want a mere ‘Don’t know’ in answer.”

Riddhima didn’t speak as she did not have any answer to it.

Sarah felt a bit disappointed when Riddhima didn’t answer. She knew that Riddhima was broken by Sejal’s demise , but her emotionless face at the mention of her future was something she did not expect. But if Riddhima was not making any efforts to move on that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t. She will try.

As a doctor, Sarah knew how broken a person felt loosing a loved one. She knew it took some time for them to overcome the ordeal, but that doesn’t means that their life is over. She can’t let Riddhima ruin her life grieving over Sejal’s death. All she wanted was Riddhima to move on.

“Don’t act stupid Riddhima. You have a long life ahead.” Sarah said when she did not get any response from Riddhima.

“Long life!” Riddhima chuckled sadly, “My life was my Sejal. But god snatched her from me and now I’m nothing but a lifeless body.”

“Lifeless! You are not lifeless Riddhima, it’s just that you are tired, tired from all the happenings that recently took place. And till the time you are not moving on, you’ll feel the same.” Sarah said in a calm tone.

“But I don’t have a reason to move on. Why should I move on? For who.. whom?” Riddhima choked upon her words.

She wasn’t using her brain, instead was being emotional. At the moment, all her thinking power was overpowered by emotions. That’s why it is said, ‘Never let your emotions overpower your intelligence.’

“You don’t need a reason to move on, all you need is will power. You’re thinking from here”, Sarah said pointing her finger at her heart, “Think from here”, she pointed her finger at her temple.

Riddhima looked at Sarah and then returned her gaze at the floor.

“Would you’ve done the same if Sejal said this you?” Sarah did a happy dance in her mind when Riddhima looked at her quizzically. She knew that her words would have the least impact on Riddhima, but Sejal’s words will. Although she is no more, but her writing would surely work, after all Sejal was Riddhima’s weakest nerve.

At the accident spot, Sejal’s and Riddhima’s belongings were collected and were submitted to the hospital authority. While Sarah was going through their belongings, she came across the diary and her hope for making Riddhima move on strengthened more.

Sarah knew it was wrong to read someone’s personal diary, but what if she gets some help from the diary. And it happened the same. Sejal’s poems and writings on miscellaneous topics were so motivational that they could illuminate someone’s darken world.

Sarah now realized that it was the time to put the cat out of the bag. She showed her a unicorn diary and it took no time for Riddhima to recognize whom it belonged to.

How can she forget that diary? She was the one who gifted it to Sejal on her 22nd birthday. A lone tear escaped her eye when she remembered how happy Sejal was when she received this gift.

Taking the diary from Sarah’s hand, she held it near to her heart. Riddhima closed her eyes feeling it. Slowly rubbing her hand over the diary, she flipped the hard cover. As she opened it, she lets out a small chuckle when she read ‘Open at your own risk’. Sejal was too dramatic, she thought.

Sarah stood at a distance as she watched Riddhima carefully flip over the pages. She knew that by reading Sejal’s writings, Riddhima would have a change of mind. And that change was clearly visible on her face. Her emotionless face was now full of emotions. The first step was over and now it was the time for the second step, Sarah thought.

Walking over to Riddhima, Sarah patted on her head. She knew that the next morning she would see a new Riddhima.

Enthusiasm is a power that can give dreams to the dreamless, life to the lifeless, and hope to the hopeless, she thought as she made her way towards the door, hoping for the best.

That whole day, Riddhima spent her time clinging onto Sejal’s diary like a five-year-old child who got her favorite teddy bear.

At times unspoken words have a magical power that can change people’s perspective.

The sunset marks the end of the day. The pinkish shade of the evening sky enters the room, making it look so calm.

Not able resist the urge to look at the evening sky, Riddhima carefully tiptoed to the window of her ward, keeping in mind not to disturb the patient on the adjacent bed.

Vansh felt a shadow through his closed eyes. It was an hour ago that he took the medicines and fell asleep, but its effect was still on him.

Rubbing his hands together, he placed it on his sleepy eyes to get rid of the drowsiness and it did work. Squinting his eyes, he made himself comfortable with the amount of light in the room.

As his eyes fell on he ground, he saw a shadow. Following his eyes towards the source that was blocking the evening rays into room, he came across a petite figure. It took him no time to recognize who it was.

“Ouch!” the words accidently slipped his mouth as he tried to get up, but failed.

Listening to the yelp, Riddhima looked towards the source of the voice.

For a moment their eyes met. Both of them felt a connection. Riddhima ignored the butterflies in her stomach when she felt the strong gaze of the stranger on her where as Vansh got lost in the depth of those brown doe-shaped eyes. These were not the same eyes he saw a day before, they were changed.

Vansh hissed when a sudden pain shot across his left leg and their sweet little moment got interrupted.

Not able to see pained expression, Riddhima rushed towards his bed and helped him sit in a comfortable position.

Vansh felt a very different sensation when her soft tiny hands held onto his well-built upper arms. The time she was helping him sit, he noticed her features once again. Everything was same except her eyes. Those eyes of her which held emptiness a day ago were now having a different shine in them.

“What happened?” Riddhima asked in a small voice.

“Huh?” Vansh asked confused as he had not idea of what she asked, after all he was busy reading those eyes.

“What happened? Why did you yelp?” she repeated.

For the first time, he heard her talk and to him her voice sounded like heaven flowing down to earth.

“Nothing, I was just trying to sit but due the weakness, I failed.” Vansh said giving a nonchalant shrug.

“Where is it paining? Here,” she asked pointing towards his leg, “or here?”, she pointed towards his waist.

Vansh was amused to see this side of hers. He knew that Sarah would somehow change Riddhima’s perspective, but he never thought that she would be so quick.

“Here” he said pointing his plastered leg.

“It’s paining because you went through a surgery and the weakness is because of the medications you’re taking. You must do exercises as the new study says that exercise can help broken bones heal faster.” Riddhima said in a professional tone, “It will boot up your healing Mr….”

“Vansh.” he added.

Riddhima nodded and turned around to go.
