I have decided !! Tomorrow..Am not going to leave for Goa!!
Three hours before,when I stepped on these stairs.,not even as a gut feeling…,this crossed my mind.,that I will end up with my marriage proposal.,along with my love proposal to her….Life is all about unexpected surprises!!..

I knew she would be waiting there,Ah….when I yearn to this extent.,for a glimpse of her smile,why won’t she!….latching up that iron door of my chest’s height,
I saw her to wait.,for my one look….Just like the way I expected from her !…She smiled wide….Hmmm..!! It all happened with this smile…for this smile….With this.,I was fantasized…and For this.,I took our marriage proposal out of the blue….She blushed bright,twiddling her fingers little,when I winked with a smile….More like a kid.,she nodded.,as my fingers animated a phone call..
Switching off the portico lights, I turned expectant.,expecting my family to shoot their bullets of questions…
“Arjun…!! You never thought to…”.,
“Dad!! That wasn’t intended….and I had no other option too..”,I snapped my dad’s words in middle,and saw him….He indeed din’t believe when I expressed my love… “…dad…!! You thought am…”
“No!”.My dad replied before I could speak further….
May be my hurt was visible in my face.,he came to my side.,”Arjun….I was hesitant only because of your nature….Your anger..!! and her….Radhu isn’t like the way you think…that child still longs for care and affection…and I was worried.,what if you aren’t aware of it….well…As you said.,anyone would love to have her as their daughter in law…But What if you hurt her in anger….She is more fragile than our Sam..!! I was worried only for that…!!…But…after listening you…I was really happy for Radhu..!!”,my dad patted my shoulder….
“Radhu is more like Sam to me…when she cried explaining her plight of being fatherless.,I couldn’t hold back myself from listening her….Just for a friend.,she was ready to share her pain to someone of her dad’s age…This is Radhu…Her maturity level.!!..She isn’t like you…calculative.,shrewd…..She will learn things with time…You should have patience for that…”,he said like a teacher…
I was honestly dumbstruck…This wasn’t what I expected…My dad wasn’t this emotional or worried when I brought Neil’s alliance for Sam..!!
“Dad! You din’t worry for Sam this much?!”,I said serious but chuckled inward..,and saw Sam to glare me…
“Because I have you..! but she doesn’t have anyone other than her mom”,my sister affectionately held my left bicep and hit her head there…”Thanks Bhaiya”,she mumbled…I was so overwhelmed with my sister….
“Sammy…”,I called just like I use to.,when we were kids….
“Yea..its..me..”,she giggled..
“Mom..You din’t say anything about my proposal…Hmmm…Did I do better than dad?!”,I looked her smiling wide.,and Sam was now curious for her answer just like my dad….
“You are my Son! Best!!”,she shook her head a little just like the way she does when she is herself…
“what..??..So you mean..”,My dad asked surprised…
“Leave it Samrat…Whats the use?”,My mom feigned a exhaustion.,to rile him up more..,which was a treat to watch…
“Dad!! You should prove you are the best!…This anniversary…you have one more chance”,Sam suddenly said like a announcement….They continued with their banter.,Sam switching sides.,Mom and dad making fun on each other.,entertaining her more…
“Arjun..Dinner!!”,My dad called as I was near my room…God!! Am gonna be teased..!!
I descended with no retort.,and gulped what was in my plate in silence….After all…Tease is fun only when you aren’t the target!!….
“We have lots of spoons”,I pursed my lips.,listening Sam…..
“Sam..!….What’s this?…you have no worries for his fingers..?”,my dad said..,and then I realized.,that am having food by hand..!!! Other than flat breads.,every bite of my food has its place, in that metal seat before I have it….”Too much! is what Sam says for my this tendency of having food by spoon….But.,that’s my habit.!!
“Radhu..never uses spoon..”,Sam said..
“Really..!! we will dispose them in that case”,My dad said….. How silly!! …Was that a tease!
“What else should I dispose..!”,My mom asked with her gaze on dad.,and I laughed,withdrawing my hand back to plate instead of having my food…..God..! What else…!!
“Mom..Are you sure its what else”,I laughed aloud getting her note as I continued with my dinner…
“Well..Dad is safe..Radhika likes him..”,I ascended the stairs as I noticed him,to still think hard.,to get my mom’s point….Mom turned humorous today..!!
I know.,I am missing lot of fun moments right now.,that’s happening back in dining hall.,but speaking with her before,she sleeps is important now…..
“Radh…”,my words stuck back in my throat.,when I heard her to speak….No..to whisper….
“I will call tomorrow..Mom is there…”..Such a big sentence.,in hushed tone.,only turned me more mischievous….
“So what?”,I whispered back trying hard to control my laugh…I quickly walked back to lock my door..,wondering what if Sam comes to pull my legs again…
“Radhikaaaa”,I hushed the same way of hers..and she hummed feeble…”I know your mom is there…Just say I love you Arjun..!”,I mimicked her soft undertone,glancing my forehead in that full length mirror before me…
What am I doing? She made behave like one Teenager..! But….But….I couldn’t miss this chance to tease her….How on earth.,she thought I would disconnect my call just for her mom..even after I made her wear my chain.,more like a marriage ritual of hers….
“Pls.”,she said low…
“Do you want me to come there?”,I asked in my self…..”Radhikaa.”,I called her when I wasn’t able to hear her…. Did she disconnect my call..? Dare to…
“Hmm..waittt…”,she said and I heard something to click open and be dragged….”Am coming to balcony..saying…am speaking..with..sam….and…network..is..weaak….”,she finished her slow verbal marathon.,and I could only snort with a laugh at her stupidity..
“Why..you could have said its me…Your husband!!”,I moved towards large window,and peeped through a gap between the curtains..,and there she stood,leaning her left on wall.,blushing listening me… “and Weak network..that’s too idiotic!!’,I remarked…..She smiled even more wide.,sticking her tongue out a little…
“I atleast tried something..”,she mumbled smiling…bright under that orange shaded Christmas star..,wearing a orange tees n night pant…
“Is it a toon character in your t-shirt”,I asked trying to figure out the design.,she quickly snapped her look to my terrace surprising me…How does she know.,I spend my time there at this hour.,though today am here.,in my room…..Her eyes searched me there.,”Am not in terrace”,I said being curious….she crooked her neck a little searching me in my portico.,and to the right of my balcony….Amazingly good.,that she had a watch over me..,she knew.,where I would be at this hour….”Left”,I said.,and she ignored her glance on my room as I was behind those curtains…
“Where are you?”,she faintly asked…
“Behind you”,before I finish my sentence, she turned around swiftly…”Ah..Before you”,I pushed the curtains to give her a clear view of my room…First time!! I opened those 4 large windows,pushing it hard…and pulled a chair…..”You can see me…right?”,I sat leisurely n the middle of my room….All the time her gaze fixed on my every move..!! and my eyes only on hers to notice what she admires in me..!! “So…”,I smiled…”whats that on your t-shi…”
“Lil Krishna and Chota bheem”,she said only to wipe my smile away….
“Wha..”,my voice trailed off.,when she pointed a figure on the right of her tees to be Lil Krishna and left to be Chota Bheem….I was dumbstruck for few mins….Really..what is she saying…No..watching…..”you aren’t a kid to wat….”
“I don’t watch regularly….but..you…see…If you watch once…you too will like it..”,she completely knocked me down with her reply….
“Very Important…!!”,I muttered sarcastically….Not even in my wildest day dreams.,I will imagine her to watch those sitting next to me….She walked backwards like a cat., and peeped inside her home…,biting her lip a little… “Mom is there?”,I asked….She turned to face me.,and nodded negative brightly…… “Radhika..!! Tell me….From when..you are in love with me..?”,I asked finally…recalling the moment.,I checked her mobile after reassembling it…..My pics of holding cigarette.,having Rum..and wiping my bike which I had only for a month…and many more of mine filled in her mobile gallery….Good that.,once I noticed her pattern lock..!!,Its helped me today..
“Radhika..Look here..”,I said when she had her gaze down….”Stand straight”,I said stern.,as she squirmed and tossed there…
“Mosquitoes!! Aaa…Good night!”,she gritted her teeth for the first time to me…. She tried to look me when I remained silent…..
“What?”,I asked soft….
“You got angry…I…its because…ummm….Say something…”,she pouted a little walking to the extreme right of her balcony to see me clearly….
“Radhika….go inside…lets talk tomorrow..”,I said to her softly…she nodded negative…..
“Hmm…Do you remember…In Ooty…once you dressed like Santa Claus for Sam….”,she said excited…
That was years back…I was doing my Bachelors….Was she having an eye on me from then??…..I was shocked.!!..
“You were in your high school.,right?”,I asked unable to control my surprise….
“Yes…Sam believes meeting Santa Claus as lucky charm.,upcoming year to turn lucky…and she cried when she missed….and then next day we met a Santa Claus unexpectedly….”
“You love me because of that?”,I again interrupted her…..
“No…Listennnnnn…”,she glared me huffing…..
what.?..I sat amused at that…..glaring me..,gritting her teeth..,and posing different…what not.,she got me to see today!….which I never thought she would….
“Listening Sam’s belief…I too believed that….and I did think Santa clause do exist…”…
I closed my eyes….hearing her…Chota bheem…Lil Krishna!!….Santa Claus!!… again I never expected this from her….
“Are you sleeping..”,she asked..
I got up,and walked towards the window….
“That day..when you wished us luck dressed like Santa Claus…..I was so happy…that.,first time..I got to see a Santa Claus..!! But when I turned,I saw you removing your mask…..Then Aunty said..you did for Sam…only after that incident…I started to notice you…..”,she smiled a little explaining the moment clear…
“You love me from that day?”,I asked…but I never want her to bring her such a silly reason..or incident…Anyone would do for their loved ones.!! I felt little irritated…
“No…as I said..I began to only notice you…I wished to have a brother,,
“Radhikaa…”.I called her sharp..and she bit her lips blinking at my figure.,exactly standing opposite to her…If not the distance of that road between us,was there.,I have no idea how would I have reacted hearing that word..
“But..you always look angry…So I never wanted you to be…my…”
Well…..Something good..!!..This angry nature had indeed gifted me something good….”Mosquitoes are still there isnt…so…Say it crisp..when you…”
“That day..In church…”
“Last year Christmas”,I smiled wide recalling the moment I hugged her thinking to be Sam….
“No…before that…When Uncle promised…I came to Church with uncle for first time….you were praying….Do you remember?”,She looked me from there..
Why Not? The most blessed day of my life..!! The day when I got My Family to turn meaningful….and..I was actually thanking as per her point….kneeling down….
“Yes..I knelt..”,
“Haan…You turned and saw me…”,she said intervening me…
I smiled…I just want to hug her…..My girl…My little darling!..turned the more precious moment of my life even more…!!
“A lil one called you angel…when My dad said..”,I smiled recalling every moment of that day…
“Hmm..but you had tears in your eyes….I din’t expect that….I thought you were praying.,but your tears….you love your family a lot…isn’t….! They are lucky..”,she smiled bright..out from her dreamy look…turning more sensible…but now…Am lost…..
“I don’t know when I fell for you this deep….but….I love you so much…And…”,she turned abruptly hearing a voice behind….
I faintly heard her as she covered her mobile.,but saw her to nod her head…”Mom is calling…Its too late…11.45…When is your flight tomorrow..”,she asked holding her balcony’s iron rails….
11.45!….Exactly 6 hrs back.,I waited for her one look in that same balcony….with that curiosity she has now…and this girl….How could I… even after.,getting to know the moment she fell for me…When I was busy thanking him for my parents..,God has given me another reason to thank him throughout my life…..Loving me.,for my love for my family…!! I never expected this…She surprised me this time again…!!
“Early morning…”,I saw her face to turn sullen…. “Good night Radhika…Will meet next week..”,I pulled close,my room’s windows one by one…I was unable to shut the last one when she looked me affected….she bit her lips hard to control herself…”Hey…C’mon…”
“I will miss you”,she mumbled out of the blue.,turning me numb for a second…tilting her head a little.,tapping her left foot nervously..,she looked me…
“Miss you too…Now go inside…Else I will come there…”,I thought she would quickly disconnect my call…
“Really..”,she mimicked with a smile and I shook my head laughing a little…She blushed hard when I kissed my phone hard…and continued till she wished for night….
Till the last second I stayed awake that night.,only her thoughts and her words were occupied in my mind….”You are too good for me!”,her words..when she proposed me rang fresh in my ears..

“Bye Mom.”,Sam’s said aloud.,when My mom and Nandhini aunty left for some Self help group activity….I saw my dad to be busy.,chopping vegetables…and Sam went inside her room….
After 15 mins when I came out of kitchen,I saw her to pull our iron gate open….I quickly went inside the next room…
“Uncle..Here I am…”,she sing sang as she came in.,locked the main door.,throwing her bag on sofa..,she peeped into Sam’s room, glanced our first floor once.,took an apple and sat in dining hall reading a magazine,..So..this is how.,she behaves in my absence….The exact opposite way..what I witness.!….She never steps anywhere other than hall until someone forces her….I have seen my family to continuously ask to her get in… How much I was fooled!!….She was too engrossed chewing her apple.,when I sat next to her…..Her eyes widened in shock for a minute….
“You are..”
“Here for you baby”,..Her cheeks got a tinge of pink.,when I got up and tried to hold her face…
“Uncle is there..”,she pushed me a little and moved to kitchen….
“What’s the menu?”,she asked and my dad read a small list….She continued with her jokes…One joke list she has.,just like a stand up comedian…
“So cool.,that your angry bird isn’t here?”,my dad asked….
I did say.,that Am gonna leave out for some work….,May be dad would have guessed with that..but she rolled her eyes and confirmed again and again…
“But I saw him”,she stood before dining table…and shot a glance at my room….
“Uncle..Are you sure angry bird not here?”,she asked high….
“Yessssssss….Angry bird is not at home”,My dad cheered back equally….
Angry bird!!!….Holding her white floral skirt a little high.,she climbed the steps hurriedly and pushed my room door open…So keen to get in.,I guess…She failed to notice me to ascend a little behind her….I hugged her.,her back to my front….Her whole which froze a second when I engulfed her.,sagged little by little as I swayed her left and right in my embrace….”You look like a cherry in this red top”,I pecked her cheek from behind….
“You..dint…”
“After 2 days..”,I said and turned her to face me… “Give me that pose again..”,I pulled her to me when she tried to walk back….
“I will call Sam!”,she said when I blocked her way….
“How many times you had sneaked into my room??”,I asked further…,and she blushed hard with her gaze on our marble floor…. “And my bracelet..”,I cornered her near windows.,and she smiled wide….
“Move please”,she voiced little….
“Pose please”,I said back…
“I won’t..”,she pushed me a little… We heard Sam calling her name aloud…..She ran like a rat when I stepped back a little….
I saw the trio relishing their breakfast..and she looked me when my dad exclaimed in surprise..”You are still here…”
…”After an hour dad”,I replied…and sat next to Sam for breakfast…Once dad left the table.,Sam continued pulling her legs…She blushed beet shaded with Sam’s every tease.,but din’t look me once…
“Uncle Panner pulav”,she said when I ascended the steps….Ordering more rightfully!! Astonishingly amiable with everyone of my family…..Suddenly.,my dad mentioning her as ‘child’,crossed my mind…I recalled her s**y pose and his word ‘Child’….
“Radhika come ‘ere”,I called from my inhouse balcony…. and looked Sam….Well..she was till then pulling our legs,that we met secretly…
“Why…I won’t…I want to help uncle”,she replied crashing my efforts to dust…Sam giggled at her….
“I need to speak with you before I leave”,I said aloud.,but turned around when my dad snapped a shocked look to me….
“I will help dad..You go..”,My sister literally pushed her,giving a winning smirk to me….Somewhere I was happy….these cute moments were something I never imagined….
She stood near the sofa of that hall.,instead of stepping inside my room….Trying to be smart…!!
“Ok sit”,I chuckled confusing her….
“I won’t come inside”,she said..
“I din’t ask you to”,she stepped backwards as I walked towards sofa…..
“Why…”,she huffed when I got her over my lap sitting comfortable…
“You should have listened me…I never thought to do this..but baby…the more you try to turn smart…”,I dragged and pecked her cheek…
“Hall…uncle…”
“Speak properly…”,I said..
She glared me…and my hands embraced her middle in response… “You never told you love me….I did ask you…”
“You were always angry on me…”
“Thats lie…Tell me why you cried…you thought I would leave you?…”,I tried to look her face..and she lolled to my right completely.,after a minute…
“What’s wrong”,I asked soft…and she tried to get off my lap…”No one will come..Just say..”,I pulled her back..
“That…I…am sorry…I should…”,she stammered…
“What is that…”,I pulled her chin to face me.,but she already had tears streaming down….
“You will scold me…you will…”,she paused when I saw her intently…
“You should help me..”,she mumbled…and I gently kissed her forehead….
“amengedtoram”,she said faintly……I pulled her to face me…”Say that clear”,I adjured…My patience was slowly fading out…!
“I got engaged to Ram”,she looked me pouting….
“Ram?”
“Hmm..My uncle’s son…Last month…they decided to have marriage in January..but..”,she said fidgeting a little..
“Get up”,I said,leaving my hold on her…
“Listen me plz”,she stayed still in my lap….
“I said…..”,
She got up instantly and stood a step away from me…. “You sh..”,she shut her mouth when I glared before moving to my room…
All the while as I got ready to leave for a work outside.,I saw her to stand on my door way trying to speak with me…How dare she?! How come my whole family wasn’t aware of this..??
“Will you do me a favor?”,She asked feeble.,when I walked past her towards the steps…
“No!”,I said sharp…I knew what would she ask…!! My eyes searched for Sam as I descended…Thankfully..My dad and Sam busy chatting something inside our kitchen….
I saw her to still stand there.,as I grabbed my car keys…”Dad…I will be back in hour”,I informed with my eyes on her..,sharply noticing her ready-to-cry pout….Controlling myself
from bidding a bye or gesturing something to her.,I swiftly went outside….
