Introduction

I sat on the rocks as I watched the ripples of water flow down the river. It was a damp , cold and windy Autumn day, the blue skies were overshadowed by dark and gloomy clouds. I took off my shoes and folded my jeans from the ankles to my knees on each leg and dipped my toes into the water. I closed my eyes, feeling the cool wind caress my face. I felt relaxed and at ease, a feeling I have been searching for a long time.
The atmosphere was so peaceful and soothing. I listened to the rippling sounds of the gushing water. The water was flowing faster as the blustery winds were getting stronger. The air felt moist as if a storm was approaching, I could feel tiny drops of rain fall on my face. For the first time in a long while, my mind felt clear.

But this feeling wasn’t to last long. I heard crunching sounds, the sound of small footsteps walking on the fallen leaves. Suddenly, my heart began to beat faster. I felt a tingling sensation in my body.
I knew this feeling, this feeling was all too familiar.

It was her.

I could feel her around me, I could feel her presence.

I opened my eyes, I quickly turned around and stood up, my right foot slightly slipping on the rocks. My body felt weak. I could feel she was here. I walked faster, following the sounds of the footsteps, I saw a shadow move from the corner of my eye. I turned and I ran. I ran as fast as I could to catch her. It started to rain heavily, I wasn’t going to let this stop me. I will find her today and I will not let her go.

As I ran I found myself in a dark area in the woods, full of high trees, towering over the woods, concealing the sunlight. I ran faster, pushing the twigs out of my way. My heart was beating even faster, I was getting closer as the footsteps got louder, I had to catch her. I reached out my hand to grab hold of her when I slipped and lost my footing, I tried to get up but I tripped over some rocks and fell onto the muddy ground. I looked up, I couldn’t see her. The sound of footsteps disappeared. I turned, looking around for her, but it was dark, I couldn’t see anything. I felt a knot in my stomach, I felt suffocated, I couldn’t breathe. There was complete silence, all I could hear were drops of rain falling onto the ground.

I was heartbroken as it hit me, I realised it had happened again.

I had been hallucinating again. She was a figment of my imagination. I see her everywhere I go, I can’t get her out of my mind. I try to run away from it, but my heart just won’t let me forget her.

I sat on the muddy ground in pain, shivering from the heavy rain pouring down on me. Everyday, I feel that ray of hope; the hope that she has come back. I feel her presence around me, I follow her to try and catch her but then she disappears into the distance. Everyday, I hope that I will get a tiny glimpse of her, but as quickly as I feel that ray of hope, even quicker my hopes are shattered into pieces, realising that she wasn’t real, it was all in my mind. She’s not here and she won’t come back.
As each day passes, a piece of my heart breaks for her.

I cried uncontrollably, the pain of losing her rushes back, everyday the pain gets even more and more unbearable. I repeatedly cried out her name loudly, hoping that somehow, somewhere she would hear me……
