Chapter 1 – Part One

‘Sayyam! Sayyam!’ I heard my name being called repeatedly.

‘Sayyam, when are you going to stop working? Seriously, the wedding is in an hour and you’re still working.’ I heard as I saw Vikram storming into my office, breathless from running up the stairs. Vikram is my best friend since childhood, he is the one and only person I can trust.

‘What wedding?’ I mumbled, my eyes focussed on the mountain of paperwork in front of me.

‘Sayyam, remember the one I told you about a few weeks back, Riya, from college. It’s her wedding. I should’ve known you would forget.’ He said sighing and placed his hands on his waist in disbelief.

‘I’ve got too much work to do, I’ve got a presentation in the morning. You go without me. I’m not interested in going to a wedding.’ I grabbed a pen from my jacket pocket and started writing.

He sat down laid back on the chair in front of my desk and placed one hand on the arm of the chair and his other hand on my desk.

‘You never know Sayyam, you might just meet the girl of your dreams there.’ He said teasingly while tapping his fingers on my desk.

I looked up at him and slapped his hand as the tapping sound was irritating me.

‘I’m not interested in meeting any girls.’ I said assertively as I moved my chair back shuffling my papers.

My focus and aim in life is to be successful like my father. This business belonged to him and he trusted me to lead the business to further heights. My fathers final wishes means everything to me. I promised him I would fulfil his wishes and achieve his dreams.

Vikram stood up and grabbed the paperwork from my hand.

‘I knew that would get your attention! You are a workaholic. You need a break, it will do you good. Look, all I’m asking you is for a couple of hours to keep me company at the wedding.’ He said smiling while waving the papers around.

‘You don’t even know Riya well. I know why you want to go.’ I said smirking at him.

‘It’s because of that girl. She’s going to be there isn’t she? What’s her name?’ I said clicking my fingers trying to recall her name.

‘Ah, yes, Yuvani isn’t it??’ I smiled as I walked around my desk towards Vikram and sat at the front edge of the desk.

‘No, I’ve been invited, so it wouldn’t be polite not to go would it?’ He said shyly with a little smile as his cheeks went pink.

He sighed, stood up in front of me and put his hand on my shoulder.

‘Please Yaar’ He looked at me with those puppy dog eyes and a little pout. He knows that whenever he does that, I give in.

‘Ok fine, but I’m not going for long. You owe me!’ I sighed and walked back over to my chair.

‘Yes!! Thank you Sayyam. Believe me, this will be a night to remember!’ He said squealing in happiness. He skipped out of the office with the biggest smile I had ever seen. He has had a crush on Yuvani for a while now but every time he comes in front of her, he makes a fool of himself stumbling around nervously. I was only going to the wedding for him. I didn’t know what the evening would bring, but all I knew is I wanted it to be over as soon as possible.

Later in the evening Vik and I arrived at the wedding hall dressed in our best sherwani suits. Vik wore a bright blue and silver sherwani complimenting his vibrant and chirpy personality. Whereas I opted for a simple black and gold sherwani suit.

As we arrived in the hall, I could feel eyes on us, making me feel really uncomfortable. I rarely attend weddings. I leaned slightly towards Vikram.

‘Why are all the woman looking at us?’ I whispered to him. He laughed.

‘When did you last go to a wedding Sayyam? You can’t remember, can you? These women are looking for an eligible bachelor for their daughters.’ He said teasingly.

I looked at him shocked. I was not comfortable in this environment at all. Women were staring and whispering to each other while looking at us.
We stood at a corner of the room and watched the marriage rituals. My mind was preoccupied with my presentation tomorrow. I had to be successful, I couldn’t let my father down.

Once the rituals were over, everyone started dancing. Yuvani approached the both of us with a friend. She started talking to Vik, while I looked away.

‘Would you- would you like to…dance?’ He stuttered nervously. She laughed. She nodded to agree to his request.

‘How about your friend here dances with my friend Krishna?’ She said.

Vikram turned to me.

‘I’m sure that would be-‘ he said as I interrupted him before he could answer.

‘No thank you. I have no intention of dancing with anyone and definitely not your friend.’ I snapped while facing ahead.

I didn’t even want to be there, never mind dancing with any girls.
Vikram and Yuvani stood in silence, taken aback my my answer. They walked over to the area where everyone was dancing.

Suddenly, my mind went blank. All my nervous feelings and thoughts of work disappeared as I felt a breeze hit my face as if I was completely spellbound. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath feeling intoxicated by a sweet scent. I opened my eyes to find a girl walking past me. I kept my composure looking ahead, focussing on the wedding party but all the while, I found myself sneaking a peek at her from the corner of my eye. I tried to look away and stay focussed. I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t stop myself, it was as if I had lost complete control of my body, I felt numb. My eyes were drawn to her. I turned and watched her as she stood across the room talking to people. I was overwhelmed and mesmerised by her beauty. Never before had I seen anything or anyone so breathtakingly beautiful. My heart skipped a beat.
Her soft, radiant skin glowed under the spotlights, her wavy, long silky auburn hair flowed down her back to her waist. Her smile was captivating, I found myself smiling with her. She looked so elegant and simple , yet so beautiful in her beige gown, emphasising her slim, yet curvaceous figure. She is perfect.

My eyes were fixated, unable to see anything but her. It was as if everything and everyone in the hall was a blur and moving in slow motion. All I could hear is the fast and strong sound of my heartbeat. This was something I had never felt or experienced before. For the first time in my life, I felt out of control.

All I knew is something is happening, something I can’t explain.

Who is she and why do I feel so drawn to her??

Precap- The wedding party – Krishna’s POV.

Hi everyone

I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I know I said I will update once a week and I have actually updated quickly this time. The reason is that I am going away for 2 weeks tomorrow so I won’t be updating while I’m away. So I thought I would get this chapter done before I go.

So Sayyam has seen Krishna for the first time and he has fallen in love at first sight. He can’t understand why he is feeling this way as he has never experienced a feeling like it before. I hope this came across how I wanted it to.

This chapter is in 2 parts. The 2nd part will be Krishna’s POV, will she feel the same way??

I hope you liked it, please let me know what you think.

Shaz x
