Kriyam ff- The one year marriage (Chapter 6)

Chapter 6

Sayyam sat outside on the bench, the night was chilly, perfect for calming him down. He had just texted Golu to come over and was waiting for him. He needed to figure out what to do with his situation.

Whats up dude? Tumhe tho bhabhi ke saath hona chaiyye tha na? Golu smirked walking up to Sayyam and sitting next to him.

Shut up, you know my situation Sayyam replied glaring at him.

Golu chuckled, holding his hands up in defence. Ok chill man, muje pata hai ke tumne majboori main shaadi ki hai, lekin ab kya problem hai? He asked.

Tum tho kal wapis ja rahe ho phir main kya karunga, kaise handle karunga Krishna ko? Woh tho Yuvaan se pyaar karti hai aur mere saath pas gayi… Sayyam looked at Golu in frustration.

Golu laughed patting Sayyams shoulder. Sayyam might seem like a clever, sharp guy, but he was so naive when it came to understanding his emotions and feelings. They continued to talk through everything late into the night, trying to come up with a solution.

The next morning

Krishna woke up feeling the warm sun rays on her skin, peaking through the curtains. She stretched her arms and opened her eyes. She looked around at her new surroundings, taking a few minutes to realise where she was. All of yesterday’s scenes came rushing back to her. She groaned not wanting to get up, but she had no choice and reluctantly got up to get ready. Once ready, she opened the bedroom door and looked around. It was her first time seeing the outhouse properly. It was all open plan with big windows, allowing the sun to shine through. The kitchen was opposite her room and the living room area in the middle of both. She could see a pillow and blanket neatly folded on the sofa. So Sayyam slept out here She thought to herself, realising there was only one bedroom.

She saw Sayyam sitting at the small, two seat dining table near the kitchen. He was working on his laptop. She went up to him.

Umm…good morning Krishna spoke quietly, she couldn’t understand why she was feeling nervous.

Sayyam didn’t look up from his laptop and signalled Krishna to sit across from him on the empty chair. Krishna looked at him taken aback by his sudden rudeness, but did as she was told. She waited for a long time for him to speak, getting anxious as she bit her bottom lip and fiddled with her hair.

Please apni ye aadat band karo Sayyam finally spoke up glancing over the laptop screen.

Krishna stood up losing her patience Tumhari problem kya hai, kal tho tum theek the aur aaj itne rude kyu hogay ho?! She questioned him angrily.

Meri marzi…now calm down…muje tumse zaroori baat karni hai Sayyam replied closing his laptop.

Krishna huffed and sat down folding her arms. Jaldi bolo kya hai?!

Sayyam took a deep breath before starting to talk Dekho Krishna tumhe pata hai humari shaadi majboori thi aur tum is se kush nahi ho. We don’t even love each other. Isliye mein nahi chahta ke hum dono ki life iss shaadi ruin hogaye. Muje apne career pe focus karna hai and tumhe bhi wapis apne career pe focus karna chahiye…tum kaam karti thi na pehle?
Sayyam looked at Krishna who simply nodded trying to understand where this conversation was going.

Good because meine bohat socha hai aur is shaadi ka koi reason nahi hai…so I have a proposal. Sayyam again looked at Krishna making sure she was following him before proceeding.

We will spend one year acting like a married couple and then we will go our separate ways. Krishna’s eyes widened hearing his plan as she tried to make sense of everything he had just said.

She was shocked hearing his proposal, but why? Was she expecting them to start working towards a happy marriage? If she wasn’t happy when they got married, of course Sayyam wouldn’t be too. She had completely forgotten the sacrifice Sayyam had made. This decision was forced on Sayyam and she didn’t want to tie him down. Sayyam was right, what was the point in staying together if they didn’t love each other. But there was something that confused her. She looked at Sayyam who was patiently waiting for her to speak.

Lekin Sayyam ye ek saal baad kyu, abhi alag ho gate hai? She asked him.

Because abhi bohat tamasha hogaya and people will talk nonsense…waise bhi muje iss ghar main nahi rehna…I’m saving up and leaving this place in a year and you will leave with me…hum chup chap alag hogaye ge and we’ll live our own lives.

Krishna couldn’t believe what she was hearing, what will happen to Suhani aunty if Sayyam left? She had so many questions, but decided not to say anything.

Muje lagta hai tum theek ke rahe ho, I agree to your proposal Sayyam wasn’t expecting Krishna would agree so easily.

Ok so it’s decided hum ek saal tak sirf saath rehne ki acting karenge aur kisi ko nahi pata lagna chaiyye ok? Sayyam looked at Krishna, who simply smiled and nodded at him.

They both sat silently trying to figure out the many emotions passing through them. There was one thing that was certain though, both couldn’t help but feel a sense of disappointment.

They eventually got called to the main house and Krishna was asked to make something sweet for the family. She decided to go with kheer. She bought it out as everyone sat at the dining table ready to taste it.

Wow, it looks good Krishna…Sayyam tum lucky ho Krishna bohat achi cook hai! Yuvaani said winking at Sayyam.

I don’t believe you Sayyam scoffed and glanced at Krishna who gave him a dirty look.

Nahi Krishna sach main bohat achi cook hai beta! Suhani laughed.

I love Krishna’s kheer, it’s my favourite! Yuvaan grinned taking a serving.

Haan Yuvaan muje yaad hai Krishna tumhare liye humesha banati thi jab…Yuvaani trailed off realising the awkward situation after looking at Krishna.

Sayyam suddenly felt a knot in his stomach, not wanting to have any anymore Muje ek zaroori kaam ke liye late hora hai tho mein chalta hoon He stood up to leave.

Par Sayyam beta kheer nahi taste karni? Suhani asked.

It’s ok maa waise bhi muje kheer nahi pasand. He replied walking out.

Ugh he is such a kharoos guy! Krishna thought scowling at him as he left.

It was 11pm and Krishna had spent her whole day going through the many traditions and rasams that were done after marriage. She finally returned to the outhouse completely exhausted, only to find it empty. Sayyam still hadn’t returned home. Woh abhi tak kyu nahi aya? Itna late tak kaam karta hai? She thought pacing up and down looking towards the door. She suddenly remembered their agreement Why am I waiting for him anyway, it’s not like we are a couple! I shouldn’t care when he comes back She felt foolish and decided to just go to bed.

It was 2am. Krishna woke up feeling thirsty and walked to the kitchen to get some water. She saw a dim light coming from the kitchen. She walked towards it and saw someone standing behind the open refrigerator door. Looking closely she could tell it was Sayyam with his floppy hair protruding from the top of the door. He was slightly hunched down and she could hear the clinking of a spoon. She decided not to turn the light on feeling a little mischievous and quietly tipped toed towards him. She slowly grabbed the refrigerator door, swinging it away.

Kya kar rahe ho?! She shouted, exposing Sayyam.

He jumped as Krishna quickly grabbed the bowl from his hand. She looked at his startled face and burst out laughing.

What the hell?!…tum pagal ho?! Sayyam shouted after recovering from the shock.

I’m sorry I couldn’t help myself…but your face was just..! She covered her mouth, trying not to laugh again.

Pagal ladki! He said frowning at her.

Krishna looked down at the bowl in her hands. Acha tum kheer ka rahe the… tumne tho kaha tha ke tumhe kheer nahi pasand? She asked innocently.

Sayyam didn’t say anything and was about to take the bowl back, when Krishna moved it away.

Nahi muje bhook lagi hai tho meine bhi kheer khani hai She grinned cheekily taking the bowl to the dining table.

Krishna muje kheer wapis do He demanded sitting across from her at the table.

Krishna extended the spoon full of kheer towards Sayyam. Ok ye lo kalo.

Sayyam stared at it and was about to grab the spoon when Krishna took it away. Nahi tum mere haath se kao na she teased him enjoying how awkward it was making him.

Nahi mein aise nahi kao ga! he said glaring at her.

Krishna pouted Awww too bad, I’ll eat it myself then. She was about to eat the kheer when Sayyam grabbed her wrist.

Krishna looked at Sayyam in surprise. He was smirking, his eyes fixated on hers as he tightened his grip pulling her hand towards his him. Krishna felt butterflies in her stomach as he ate the kheer still looking into her eyes. Sayyam let go of her hand and the spoon dropped too, the noise breaking Krishna out of her trance. Sayyam smirked knowing the tables had turned. He took the spoon and went for some more kheer.

Ab ye lo tum bhi kao mere haath se He mocked her.

Krishna composed herself and looked at him determined not to lose.

Fine! Kalao muje She opened her mouth, closing her eyes.

Sayyam chuckled seeing the cute expression she was making. He fed her the kheer.

Chalo ab tum phir muje kalao Sayyam said again copying her as he closed his eyes and opened his mouth.

Krishna narrowed her eyes, not liking him mocking her. She took some kheer and rubbed it on his nose and cheeks.

Sayyam’s eyes shot open. Krishna mein tumhe choro ga nahi! He threatened, getting up from his seat.

Krishna quickly got up too, holding her ears Please muje maaf kardo She backed away giggling.

Sayyam reached out to grab her, but Krishna dodged him and ran off. Sayyam chased her around the room as she continued to tease him. He finally cornered her and pinned her against the wall. Krishna struggled to break free, but he only strengthened his grip around her wrists. She saw a glint in his eyes, knowing exactly what Sayyam was about to do. His face drew closer to hers.

Sayyam…please don’t… muje pe na lagana…eee! Sayyam rubbed his cheek onto hers as Krishna shut her eyes.

She felt the coldness of the kheer as it smeared on her cheek, but it was soon replaced by the warmth of his skin. His beard tickled her cheek sending goosebumps through her body.

He moved to the other cheek as Krishna breathlessly whispered him to stop. Sayyam muje chor do…

Sayyam stopped and looked at Krishna as they became lost in each other’s eyes.

Krishna finally broke the eye contact realising the position they were in. They broke apart completely flustered.

Sorry that went too far… Sayyam spoke up, clearing his throat.

Krishna laughed awkwardly Haan dekho na mera sara face ganda kar diya hai tumne! She pouted looking at Sayyam.

He narrowed his eyes at her Ziyada drama na karo, tumhari bhi galti thi aur ab so jao raat bohat hogay hai.

Krishna gave him a look, why does he suddenly turn so rude?! She thought as she turned around to leave.

Aur suno!…kheer achi thi, phir zaroor banana Sayyam called out.

Krishna turned around, slightly surprised, but grinned smugly at him Ha! muje pata tha!…thank you Sayyam! and went to her room, laughing with triumph.

Idiot! Why the hell did I say that?! Sayyam thought running his hands through his hair as he got ready to sleep too.

The morning after was busy for everyone. Suhani and Yuvraaj had decided to have a small wedding for Yuvaan and Baby with only a few close family and friends invited. They wanted to marry them off quickly to prevent any rumours spreading. Everyone was worried about Krishna and how she would cope during the wedding, but she seemed to be unaffected, even helping out with the preparations. However Sayyam could see through the facade. Her eyes still showed the same pain he saw the other night. Of course it would take time for her to forget, but he couldn’t understand why it would bother him this much.

The wedding went smoothly and Krishna and Sayyam were about to return to the outhouse when Suhani called them to her room. They arrived to find Yuvaan and Baby already there.

Suhani beamed at both her sons, hugging them. Hum bohat kush hai ke tum dono ki shaadi hogay hai…isliye meine aur Yuvraaj ne tum dono ko shaadi ka gift dena hai.

Yuvraaj took out two envelopes and gave one each to Yuvaan and Sayyam. Both looked puzzled, asking what it was.

Ye hai tum dono ki honeymoon ki tickets! Yuvaaj chuckled seeing their expressions.

What?! Krishna and Sayyam shouted simultaneously.

They glanced at each other. Meine kya karna hai is karoos aur bore aadmi ke saath honeymoon pe ja ke Krishna mumbled quietly.

Kya kaha Krishna? Suhani asked surprised by their reaction.

Sayyam nudged Krishna signalling her to shut up.

Actually maa woh muje kaam hai na tho isliye honeymoon pe jana mushkil hoga Sayyam lied.

Muje nahi pata, tum bas honeymoon pe ja rahe ho! Aur itna maza ayega na jab tum sab saath jao ge! Suhani glanced at Yuvraaj winking at him.

They had thought sending all of them away together would help them sort out their differences and bring them closer.

It’s gonna be fun maa, thank you! Yuvaan said excitedly hugging Suhani.

Thank you mummy ji Baby smiled sweetly also hugging her.

They both left the room. Krishna and Sayyam stood there still not knowing what to do.

Tum dono theek ho na? Yuvraaj asked them. They both nodded, faking smiles and left the room.

They silently made their way back to the outhouse with just one thought on their minds Oh god ye hum kaha pas gaye?!
