Karan Mehra, famed for portraying Naitik Singhania in “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai,” makes a remarkable comeback to Hindi television after nearly four years with the new series “Mehndi Wala Ghar.” Explaining his hiatus from the small screen, the actor delves into his ventures into Punjabi television, music videos, and aspirations in OTT platforms and films.
Reflecting on his return to Hindi television, Karan shares, “Amid exploring Punjabi shows, music videos, OTT, and films, I awaited a substantial project for my return. ‘Mehndi Wala Ghar’ felt like the perfect opportunity for my comeback. Similar to my casting in ‘YRKKH,’ this show materialized unexpectedly and swiftly.”
Highlighting the ensemble nature of the new series akin to his earlier stint in “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai,” Karan embraces the challenge. He emphasizes, “While playing the quintessential hero in music videos, I’ve committed to significant roles and rejected cameo appearances. In ‘Mehndi Wala Ghar,’ I embody Manoj, the central character around whom the family dynamics unfold. Resonating with ‘YRKKH’s setup, it feels like a second innings.”
Karan expresses his grounded approach towards acting, stating, “I’ve never let success inflate my ego. A show’s triumph results from collective teamwork. In today’s television landscape with shows wrapping up swiftly, I feel privileged to shoulder the responsibility of such a substantial series again. It’s rare, as actors are often associated with one significant show. Even after years since ‘YRKKH,’ people still identify me as Naitik. While it’s a weighty character, I’m enthusiastic about crafting another milestone, connecting with the audience as Manoj.”
Asked about his return to the Hindi TV set, a platform where he initially soared to success, Karan admits, “Television brought me joy, an eight-year journey that eventually led to fatigue affecting my health. I felt the need to step back and not exhaust myself with continuous work. This is why I chose ‘Mehndi Wala Ghar.’ Shooting commitments are manageable, allowing time for other projects, requiring 15 to 20 days a month.”
