Karan Kundrra on our 75th Independence day; says, “There’s no country like India and no culture like ours”

Karan Kundrra has his own take on celebrating Independence Day, the actor doesn’t believe in mere tokenism. Talking about it during a recent interview with BT, he said, “I don’t follow any particular tradition on Independence Day. I will not watch the same patriotic film every year just for the sake of it or have some tricolour specials at home. I would rather spend the day watching documentaries on the geopolitical and economic situation of the country. I would like to watch or read about the infrastructural development of the country, our next big projects and our footprints in space. That’s what interests me,” he says.

Recalling his life-changing visit to the BSF camp in JalandharKaran shared, “I visited the BSF camp as a part of a school activity on Independence Day. Being there and understanding how the security forces work every day changed the meaning of independence for me and made me appreciate them even more. At that point, I didn’t know that our freedom is at constant risk, and the forces do so much to keep us safe. I remember they were educating us about proxy war, and the Kargil War was still going on then. It has been more than 20 years since that visit, and we still hear the news of the infiltration of terrorists into the country. Our forces work really hard so we can sleep in peace, and as citizens, we should appreciate it.”

He added, “There are countries where people don’t have basic rights even now. But we have freedom, which we should be grateful for. I think people don’t appreciate that enough. They don’t understand the sacrifices our forces make.”

He concluded by saying, “We should have love and respect for our country. I have traveled a lot and seen many countries and cultures, and trust me, there’s no country like India and no culture like ours. We should all be proud of that.”
