Kapil Sharma opens up about his journey in the entertainment industry; says, “He learned 200 songs of Kishore Kumar for a job in Singapore”

Kapil Sharma was recently seen in Shehnaaz Gill’s talk show where they had an intriguing conversation. Kapil unveiled some heartwarming stories from his personal life, and how his career was shaped.

During the interview, Kapil revealed that before doing comedy on TV, he used to do theatre, youth fest, and professional plays. They were all serious. The laughter challenge came later which became his ticket to the standup comedy genre. He said, “God kept making a new path for me after auditioning for the Laughter Challenge and now, I have reached here.”

He added, “In school, there used to be a saying, ‘Karam hi puja hai’. I never understood this back then. But as you grow up, you realize the actual context of the saying. My father had once advised me, ‘Mehnat karte raho, jitni aap pehle mehnat karoge fir aage chalke aish karoge, abhi aish karoge toh saari umar mehnat hi karte rahoge,’ and that hit me.”

Talking about one of his job experiences, Kapil shared, “I had gotten a job in Singapore in an Indian restaurant where I had to sing Kishore Kumar’s songs and they would pay me Rs 25,000. I was all set for it, I even by-hearted 200 songs of Kishore Kumar. Then I called my mentor and spoke to him about the job. He said, ‘You will go to Singapore, spend 20k, and save only 5k, instead, I’ll find a job for you here for Rs 10,000.’ I agreed to that as all I wanted was to work. Circumstances were such that after my father’s demise, I had to start working.”

When asked about Laughter Challenge and how it shaped his career, Kapil said, “Luckily, god saved me from going in the wrong direction. I was then clear that I wanted to go on TV and Laughter Challenge happened and it changed my life. I didn’t earn anything while doing the Laughter Challenge. I participated and did gain popularity. I got Rs 10 Lakh cheque when I won the show.”
