Kamalanayani – an Untold Character of the Great Epic. (Episode 4)

The life of the eldest princess of Dvaraka went like this…

She grew up as the only princess of the royal family. She was very eager to see her father Lord Krishna’s alankara (While he wears ornaments and mukut). One day he gave her a chance to do his makeup. He was really pleased by the way she did. In return he gave her 2 gifts – the peacock feather that he wore for a long duration and second one – she will be doing his alankara after this.

She took it as a great opportunity to serve her dear pithashree & the only God was able to see. She did it with great interest and bhakti. Each day, once the alankar is over, Lord Krishna gifted her with the peacock feather that he wore the last day. She received them and preserved them with great care. But the first feather that she received was really precious to her. She made it as a hand-ornament and wore it always. She never allowed anyone to touch it.

And her friends in the palace was a yadu girl named Chandrika. She was the best friend for the princess. (The whole kingdom is only full of yadavas). And it is a usual practice that the king and queen used to allow a girl of trust to accompany the princess as her friend to monitor the activities of the princess. Chandrika was first a commoner of Dvaraka but began to stay in the palace along with the princess.

Her brother Rajkumar Pradyumna motivated her to learn warfare as per the orders of Lord Krishna who said that a girl child no less than a boy child for him. And Lord Krishna also quoted that being the princess of Dvaraka, she might sometime need to rescue herself from some political rivalries of the kingdom and the yadavas. She learnt it with the help of her brother and Lord Balarama. She was good in sword. But felt that archery was a bit tough. (Even her atma form holds a bow & Brahmastra). This toughness made her close to her destiny.

Kamalanayani was feeling like single angel in the magical forest until the entry of her younger sister.

After seeing such a lovely daughter, Mata Rukmani (First princely queen of Lord Krishna) expressed her desire to have a girl child for her to Lord Krishna. By using his powers he made another lotus into a girl child. But this time, don’t ask me about the atma-dharshan of that daughter because I don’t know about that…

Lord Krishna named her as Charumati (because her face looked like a full-moon). Mata Rukmani named her as Padmavadhani ([Lotus faced one] Because her face looked like a full-bloomed lotus and again she was also born out of lotus.). You can find Charumati’s name in wiki but not in the name of Padmavadhani. She was called by those 2 names.

Padmavadhani’s strength was in music. She was a good singer and used to sing songs praising Lord Narayan the most. She was also very dear to her father and family. But Lord Krishna did not differentiate between her daughters. Padmavadhani was almost 5 years younger than Kamalanayani.

After Padma’s birth, Kamalanayani got a bit inferior and insecure feeling that she might share her father’s affection. (Just as most children do…) But anyway she did not express to anyone. Kamalanayani expressed her insecure feeling as hatred towards Padmavadhani. She was not so fond of her younger sister as she was sharing her ornaments, clothes & etc… And Padmavadhani was also no less than Kamalanayani in this hatred. The hatred was upto such an extent that, they even do not call each others as didi or behen… They simply call each other as Rajkumari Kamalanayani and Rajkumari Padmavadhani. They expressed it with each other but not infront anybody else. But nothing can be hid from the almighty right… Therefore, Lord Krishna knew it and took measures for it.

The only way to unite them was collaborating their arts. Kamalanayani did not miss performing on the Shivaratri night at Lord Somnath temple, Dvaraka from the year she was born in Dvaraka. She used to perform a Nātyānjali (Pleasing god through Dance). So Lord Krishna ordered Padmavadhani to sing during Kamalayani’s performance on the upcoming Shivaratri.

They both were frustrated on knowing this order.

This story’s next episode will be released soon. Stay tuned…
