Chapter 41
More than Friends Less than Lovers !!

One Week Later.

Its been a week since Naira saw Rithvik for the last time. As she had wished, he was sucessful professionally with a respectable position but to her bad fate, he was Karthik’s business partner.

Every thing was going good, Keerti Dii is in Goenka Mansion getting pampared by everyone and excepting the baby in a week or two. Naksh drops by sometimes to meet Keerti before going to Singhania sadan after office.

Karthik and Naira, both are beyond friends now. She found his arms the most protective place and now they share a bed comfortably, almost cuddling into each other.

One morning, Naira was walking towards kitchen when she heard some muffled voices while descending the stairs. When the view became clear, her breath raced. Oh no !! Not again.

The person whom she didn’t wanted to see ever, was standing right in front of her. Shantanu bhai and Rithvik were talking about some meeting when they noticed her.

“Morning Naira. You have met Rithvik, right ?!! He would be joining us for breakfast today.” Shantanu bhai said.

Naira smiled awkwardly at them looking into Rithvik’s eyes that had odd detetmination in them. Naira gulped and went towards kitchen to help Vrushika bhabi. Being Sunday, the whole family was present at the dinning table.

“I really want to kiss the hands of the person who made this gajar ka halwa today.” Karthik said licking his fingers.

Vrushika bhabi raised an eyebrow at Naira who blushed at the complement. As Karthik realised the situation, he just gave her an awkward smile.

Though Naira was aware of the burning gaze that Rithvik had on her, she simply ignored it. When she went beside Rithvik to serve him the breakfast, he brushed his fingers with hers and she stilled on the spot.

“Your wife is very obedient Karthik.” Rithvik said out of the blue.

“What ?!!” Karthik asked totally confused.

“I mean she looks so obedient, traditional and a person who knows how to keep promises.” Rithvik said and Naira gulped nervously.

Karthik observed Naira’s strange behaviour. She was being dull and moody from the day they came back from Goa.

Naira went into the kitchen to wash her hands. While returning, someone pulled her by waist and pinned her to the fridge. She screamed in shock and panic. The only fear that crossed her mind was the person being Rithvik.

“What’s wrong ?!! I am sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” Karthik’s soothing voice made her open her eyes which she had closed tightly all this while.

When she opened her eyes, she met his eyes which were filled with concern and confusion. Karthik’s hands were on her waist and his face was just a few inches away from hers, but that didn’t affect her instead she found it protective as she always does.

“No, nothing is wrong.” Naira shrugged, trying to break the eyelock. Karthik lifted her chin so that he could see her.

“You are a very bad liar.” Karthik said and Naira smiled nervously.

“Please tell me. You are not you…Naira. What is making you so scared and worried ?!!” Karthik asked again.

Naira still didn’t say anything. She just shook her head in a negative. He left her and ran his hands through his hair.

“This is so irritating. Am I not trust worthy ?!!” Karthik asked and he looked hurt.

“Seriously Karthik. Trust Me. There is nothing wrong. Everything is fine.” Naira said trying to soothe him. The last thing she wanted now was to hurt Karthik.

Karthik opened his mouth to say something but just then Aaryan came running towards him, asking him to play cricket with him.

Naira left the kitchen on that opportunity and Karthik stood there gazing at her disappearing form.

He for sure knew that, there was something wrong with her and he was going to find out.
