It’s not a dream
I dedicate this OS to Priya15 who wants me to write an OS on moondram pirai.giving it a happy ending.Since I am more familiar with it’s hindi version Sadma I wrote an OS on Sadma.Hope you don’t mind it Priya as Sadma and Moondram Pirai are same except the names and the language.This OS is the continuation of the movie Sadma.It’s a small attempt to give it a happy ending.
Those who have not watched the movie…actually in Sadma in an accident Nehalatha lost her memory and mental balance and started behaving like a kid.She was looked after by Somprakash and she was known as Reshmi.He gave her treatment.But when she got cured she forgot Somu.Though he tried to make her remember him when was in the train with her parents she did not recognize him.She mistook him for a mad man and never knew that he was the one who looked after her when she was not in her senses.
Though she was sleeping..it was not a peaceful sleep.She was haunted by some blurred images.
A man taking care of her…feeding her…combing her hair..
playing with her..draping saree on her…
Teaching her to write letters and words on the slate..
playing with her…
Every night she could hear a lullaby in her ears…

She woke up panting…
Her parents stood by her.
Her mom asked her,
“What happened Neha?”
She replied sweating,
“Maa…I see some strange dreams daily..whenever i close my eyes.I can’t understand why I see the same dream again and again”.
Her father asked her,
“What do you see in your dreams?”
She replied,
“A man..A loving person with me..who cares for me”.
She explained what she saw in her dreams.
Her parents looked at each other emotionally.
Her father said,
“I think it’s time for you to know a truth which we hid from you”.
Nehalatha looked at her parents with curiosity.
“Truth?What kind of truth?”
Her mother replied,
“Yes beti..we hid a truth from you.Actually you did’nt recover immediately after your accident.You were not mentally stable for a long time”.
Nehalatha was shocked,
“What?Means my accident took place long ago?”
Her mother replied,
“Yes Neha.You were taken care of by a nice man.You were staying with him.He only took you to a medical practitioner in the village.He told us that because of that nice man only you are cured and became normal”.
Nehalatha was shocked.
She asked them restlessly,
“Who is he?”
Her father replied,
“We don’t know.We wanted to see him and thank him.But unfortunately things did’nt work out”.
Neha was in tears.
“Please papa…I want to see him.I want to thank him.Because of him I am here now.I can’t get peace of mind if I don’t see him”.
Her father said caressing her hair,
“Don’t take stress Neha.We will find him with the help of the medical practitioner”.
Neha got some relief.
Neha fell asleep.She saw Somprakash singing lullaby for her in the dream.

She woke up smiling emotionally.
She remembered Somu calling her when she was in the train.
Tear drops rolled down her cheeks,
“He called me as I was his Reshmi.But I did’nt recognize my Somu.What all did he do to make me remember him?He even did a lot of funny things like a mad man which his Reshmi used to love.
But I thought he was crazy while I am the one who was crazy.Oh God..what did I do?I broke the heart of the person who made me happy always.How depressed he may be.I curse myself for what I did to him.Earlier I used to hold his hand tight to not let him go.
But the same me left his hand.How could I do that to him?I am so cruel”.
She was in tears.
“Maa..papa..”
They came near her.
Neha said in excitement,
“I saw him.I saw his face clearly.He is Somu.Now I remember everything”.
Her parents smiled and she hugged them.
“I had seen him.He had come to see me when we were in the train.But I failed to recognize him”.
They were shocked.
They went to the village and met the medical practitioner.
Neha requested him,
“Please tell me where he is.I want to see him”.
He replied,
“I will tell you where he lives.Good that you want to meet him.He looked after you like a kid.His love was unconditional.No one could have taken care of you like Somprakash looked after you.He is in severe grief after you left”.
Neha looked at him emotionally.She tried to control her tears.
Somprakash was laid on the bed thinking of Reshmi.He coughed due to severe fever and cold.He searched for the jug near the stool.Suddenly somebody extended a glass of water.Without thinking anything he drank the water.Slowly he looked at that person.It was Nehalatha.He was shocked.
Neha uttered his name..”Somu”.
He looked at her tearfully.She was also in tears.
Somu asked her,
“Why did you leave me Reshmi?”
Neha wept silently.
“But I am thankful to you for always visiting me in my dream.I love to see you in my dream.That’s the only relief I have”.
She was stunned to know that he thinks that it is his dream.
She said,
“No Somu.It’s not your dream.I am really here.I have come back to you”.
He said painfully,
“No..you are fooling me.Reshmi is my dream which got shattered”.
“Why don’t you understand.It’s your Reshmi with you”,She said.
She held his hand and said,
“Feel my touch.Do you still think that I am just a dream?”
He was stunned.
She shed tears,
“I am sorry for leaving you..sorry for not recognizing you.But now I remember everything.Now I have come to you as your Reshmi”.
Somu could not believe it.
His lips shivered,
“Reshmi..”
She nodded emotionally.
He smiled tearfully.
She cupped his face in her hands,
“You love me.Right?I can see love in your eyes for me”.
He nodded tearfully,
“Yes Reshmi.I love you a lot”.
She said emotionally,
“I too love you Somu”.
She embraced him.He was surprised.He circled his arms around her shedding tears.
“Promise me that you won’t leave me again Reshmi.I will die if you go”,
Neha replied tearfully,
“I will not repeat that mistake.I will never leave my Somu”.
Neha’s parents came inside.They smiled emotionally seeing their bond.
Seeing them Somprakash got nervous.Neha looked at them shyly.
Her father said,
“We are sorry for misunderstanding you.We thought you kidnapped our daughter.We realized it late that it’s because of you that our daughter is fine now”.
Her mother said,
“It’s your love that made her happy even in our absence.Your love cured her.You deserve Neha.We will never separate her from you”.
Her father said,
“She will be always your Reshmi”.
Somu smiled tearfully.He folded his hands falling at their feet.
“I an’t tell you how much grateful I am to both of you.For me Reshmi is my life and I can’t express my thanks for returning my Reshmi”.
They all smiled emotionally.
Reshmi’s father made him get up and hugged him.He held Reshmi’s hand and joined it with Somu’s hand.
Somu and his Reshmi shared a sweet eye lock getting into an eternal unbreakable bond.It’s not a dream,but a reality which had to happen as they were destined to be with each other forever.
