Chapter 10:

How many days?

How many days do you think it takes to get a person destroyed?

A week?

A month?

Or maybe, A year?

But it took two days and within two days, just three meetings and her life is destroyed..

It shouldn’t have been this easy to destroy someone utterly, so thoroughly.

A girl stood before a ruined house, one hand with a luggage of what left in the destroyed house and another hand tightening on the person hand’s she is holding on to, contemplating what had she done to deserve this..

She was given no explanation and her life was destroyed just because something called chip which she didn’t know what it is or how is it. All she knew was some sort of chip she had leaked or something.

Annika was proved right again that she has a cursed fate.. She is undeserving of happiness for long time.

You should not sign a contract with grim reaper and her ill fate was sealed when she broke the devil’s car glasses.

First meeting, First day-Morning.. He came by a fancy car and made her hard earned money for months to pay her brother’s custody was gone. He drove away the car by challenging that she will beg for forgiveness and he will grant her mercy in the name of money then only. He destroyed her will to live by ruining Saahil’s custody.

Second meeting, First day-Evening.. She was given a notice of her dismissal from the job she had been working on without any explanation. When she had gone to the boss cabin to demand why she is forced to quit, only stopping in shock, seeing him with glasses on, his legs on the table, leaning casually on the chair as if he owned the world, smirking at her. Annika stood strong not willing to break down to his will. He said she will regret it when she had thrown the water in a glass nearby and went away with the last comment to her that she will never find a job anywhere. He destroyed her independency by taking her job.

Third meeting, Second day-Morning.. She was shocked to find her aunt selling their house and running away with money and was even more shocked when she was pushed out of her house along with Saahil. She didn’t have the time to realize what is going on, just like that two bulldozers came and destroyed the house she had lived in and treasured for years. He stood there, still with his glasses on, leaning on his car, looking at the house destroying by the bulldozers as if it is some sort of entertainment to him with no expression or any regret that he is destroying someone’s home. He destroyed her safety and warmth of having a house to stay no matter what happens.

He moved towards her and finally looked at her, taking his glasses on, for the first time ever since their meeting, they had always met when he had glasses on and even in that pool it was without any lights and now she was struck by the color of his eyes… Azure.. His eyes penetrating, straight to her heart.. How could anyone be this cruel with those kind of eyes..? He was like a devil in the angel disguise.

“You said I could never break you.. That I could never make you kneel.. Your money, job, house, now all gone and I don’t have to break you.. You’re already nothing without them. I usually don’t deal with lowly persons like you but this is for my brother”

He looked at her brother, taking his deep gaze away from her and turned towards his car but looked at her one last time when he reached his car..

“You should have begged for mercy..” He looked strangely disappointed as if it is her fault that he destroyed her.

No one.. No one will make her kneel, least of all beg and that too for something she didn’t do. She had gone through so much, so much that nothing felt scarier anymore. So what, there will be some job she can ear of, there will be some place she can stay. She had never expected or accepted anyone’s help.

She had gathered what left off in the house, packed them in bags and stood before the destroyed house, hands trembling. Maybe she should have explained that she didn’t know what the chip was, at least for her brother’s sake.

How will she manage his school’s fees and their staying? She didn’t have close friends or any relatives. She looked down at Saahil who was gazing at their house sadly.

She knew life is unfair and storms like the devil with azure eyes can throw your life off. She too isn’t Annika for nothing. She wiped her tears before they rolled down her cheeks. Nope, she never was nor will be weak. She’s Annika.. Annika..

For now, she will stay in Chanda’s house; she didn’t want to be a burden to anyone. She will figure it out in a week and will definitely make money so that Sahil can go to school properly.

That day in night when no one was there in Chanda’s house, she didn’t sleep, just curled around and caressed Saahil who slept beside her in the guest room. What she can do? What more she has to suffer? If she will suffer, then it is fine but she can’t let Sahil suffer.

These kinds of tiresome and hard days reminded her of the days in orphanage. After what seemed like hours of rolling around, she slept with troubled memories and thoughts.

~~~~Little Annika looked around the children playing in the playground since it is evening and they all are free of chores in the orphanage. She didn’t know why but no one liked her. Granted, the first year in orphanage had been difficult because she was very upset that her chutki went far away. The adoptive parents just wanted her chutki alone but not her. Little Annika cried hard yet let Chutki go, at least Chutki will have a loving family.
That year had been harder. Little Annika doesn’t remember much about her parentage but all she could remember is that they were abandoned.. she could very well remember the days of loneliness, starvation.
No one who came to adopt kids liked her. She didn’t know why, she is always the one to be abandoned.
Is she not pretty enough?
Is she not lovable enough?
Thoughts which no nine year old should have were running through nine year old Annika. Most kids get adopted at the age of six and if they aged more than that, it was a given fact that they will not be adopted. The orphanage staffs only looked after the younger children so they will get adopt in a good family and will have donations. The older children were put to work and they are left alone to fend themselves off. Annika is glad at least Chutki escaped the hardship.
Little Annika tried hard not to be a burden, no matter how tough the situation is, she still felt lucky enough to have a place to stay. She knew there are worse things that may happen to her.
Little Annika sighed looking at the children playing with toys and some running around. She somehow didn’t seem to be fit anywhere no matter how hard she tried. She was extra nice to all the girls, yet they hated her more saying that all her behavior is acting.
Annika stayed away from the grown up boys in the orphanage. The way some boys looked at her sort of freaked her out. Last week she had beaten two of them with a stick nearby when their touch became so uncomfortable and scary.
No child, no matter their age has to go through with that. For fighting like that, the matron of orphanage punished her with more chores and no donated toys for her.
That is why little Annika watched in envy of the girls naming their dolls and playing around. The toys were all second handed yet they are still beautiful and playful for children who had none. Annika didn’t even get that second handed toys.
“Radha”, one girl named the teddy bear and another girl named stuffed panda as, “Lobo”
Annika looked down sadly and stared at her slippers..
“Champu”
Lttle Annika smiled at her worn out slippers.
“You can be my toy and play with me Champu”
Her smile didn’t last long. Two boys she had beaten up came near her and dragged her to the room forcefully while no one paid any attention to her.
They pushed her in a room and laughed..
“Where had the braveness gone now, crying baby?”
They closed the door and little Annika could tell the room will be dark if they closed fully.
“Ha ha.. Now look at her fearing the darkness..”
“Because of you we are being forced out of this orphanage. But we will not go without punishing you.”
“Ask Sorry and we will think about letting you go”
Little Annika grit her teeth and clenched her tiny fingers. She hadn’t done anything wrong to ask sorry. She will never bend her pride.. Because that is all she has and she won’t ask forgiveness because they deserved it.
“See her arrogance; no one will know you are in here until next day. Let us see where will the braveness goes when spiders, ants and cockroaches will crawl and eat you.” one boy said to another, next to him and laughed cruelly.
“Enjoy our parting gift”
With that, they caressed her in a creepy way before locking the door.
Little Annika could feel the fear slowly creeping in her.
“Help me…”
“Let me out”
“Please let me out”
Little Annika knew it’s a Friday night and everyone will fall asleep watching a movie. She cannot be heard yet she yelled for help.
As the time passed, the darkness grew and little Anikka was so scared of the imaginary ghosts and the spiders crawling on her. She cried out for help and slumped against the door not knowing what to do.
As a ray of hope the sealed window let out a ray of moonlight and Annika thanked the moon over and over, crying her heart out for help.~~~~
Annika woke up with a gasp and clutched her heart. God! It scared her for life. Annika could not handle the memory or the darkness. She looked at the moon in her bracelet and tried to calm down.
Why do these things happen to her all the time?
Just when she feels happy in her life, then sorrow and worry returns back to her with even more force than before.
——————–
How many days?
How many days take to restore your life from the ruin?
A year?
A month?
It took him one day; with in one day it took him three meetings to restore her life even better than before.
Annika has been trying hard to find a job for two days and also she had to save money again if her aunt again comes back to argue about custody. She doesn’t have education and it is hard to find a well earned job when you are not properly educated.
Two days of trying to find any kind of job.
First meeting, Morning.. After two days the lawyer who had disappeared with her money, called her to meet in personal. Annika grit his teeth when she saw the devil with azure eyes there.
Is he not satisfied with turning her world upside down?
What more he wants from her? Just when she opened her mouth to yell at him, because she is not afraid of the devil, the lawyer handed her the custody papers.
Annika gaped at them in astonishment. Is it his new plan to destroy her? Is he expecting that she will kneel before him in gratitude?
But he didn’t look at her for once and moved out of the office with his stupid glasses on.
Second meeting, Afternoon.. Annika was still in daze and confusion of what happened in the morning. She got a call from Saahil’s school to come and see the principal. Annika still hasn’t arranged the annual fees of this year and went nervously. Annika stood in shock when the Principal said Saahil is offered a scholarship that too till his higher education.
“But I didn’t apply for the scholarship?”
“No. the owner of the school offered it”
Annika was suspicious and somehow thankful.
“Can I meet him?”
“Fortunately, he is in the meeting room. Go soon if you have to thank him since he is a busy man and rarely comes here”
Annika rushed off to the room after asking the directions, only to freeze again in shock.
Not again..
Just how much he owns in the world?
Annika suddenly felt angrier. Who does he think he is to offer scholarship like that? How dare he to ruin them and do things like this? Did he think she will accept them easily? Annika never wanted anyone’s money least of all from him.
She opened her mouth to give him a piece of mind, but just like usual he didn’t give a chance for her to speak and left.
Third meeting, evening… She got a call and he spoke more like ordered her to come to a location. How did he even know her number.? She didn’t want to go but she wanted to yell at him at the least.
He was standing out, leaning on the car near a house….
“Who do you think you are? Bagwaan? What are you doing here? How do you even know my number? This is stalking and I will complain you.”
He looked bored and Annika fumed.. How dare he… If only she had a glass of water..
He extended a hand to her..
What did he expect?
She will shake hands with him..? She looked down to see papers in his hands and he thrust them in her hands.
“What is it?”
“This house belongs to you now”, he said pointing to the house they were standing in front of.
“What…? Do you think I am a beggar..? I don’t need your charity.. You’ve ruined my life and you want me to accept this? Is it another way to torture me? Or is it one of your plan to make me kneel in front of you in gratitude? I can manage myself?”
“Are you stupid?”
“Hey, look Mister..”
“I am not giving you charity? Do you think I have time for all this? The custody case was done with the money you gave to the lawyer. Saahil was offered scholarship because I offer them to ten children per year per school. I destroyed your house and I can’t renew it so I am giving this to you”
“Why..?”
“Well… I found out you weren’t involved in the case”
“What..? See, I told you… I told you how many times I didn’t do anything. Did you listen? You were going on destroying me for nothing. But I can’t accept this when the house never belonged to me.”
“Listen… You’re wasting my time. That house belongs to the guardian of your brother and you eon the custody case so it’s yours. Keep it or leave it… It’s your choice..”
He turned to leave,
“Aren’t you forgetting something?”
“What?”
“Apologise”
“Excuse me… You expect Shivaay Singh Oberoi to apologize to you?”
“Well Mr.Oberoi, you were wrong in your assumptions and destroyed our house and my job too. You cannot expect me to forgive you this easily just because you gave everything back.”
“Well… I don’t want your forgiveness… Be glad I took my time to look into the matter and found you not guilty.. If not, your fate would have been even worse than before.”
The nerve of him… What can you expect it from the devil? But just for a second when he gave back the house, she thought he’s an Angel, restoring their life.. Ugh, she must have been insane to think like that… He’s a devil..
He opened his car and turned again,
“Oh… I forgot something.”
I shouldn’t have called him devil.. Looks like he’s going to apologize.
“Your Job”
Ugh… Definitely a devil.. If he was a human then he would have begged at least asked for her forgiveness to put her through the hell.
“Be my wedding planner”
What?
Working with the devil..?
No way… No way in hell..
