#HappyRakshabandhan: From YRKKH, Anupamaa, to Choti Sarrdaarni, the special brother-sister bond thrives in TV

Rakshabandhan, the festival heralding the sacred bond between a brother and sister holds great prominence in many parts of India. For our television industry, which follows the diction of actively involving various festivals of India in their story set up, Rakshabandhan is a big occasion to celebrate!!

Many shows on Hindi GEC have beautifully written brother-sister characters and their love for each other have impacted the TV viewing audience in a big way!!

With Rakshabandhan being celebrated today (22 August) in India, we bring together the amazing brother and sister Jodis from Hindi GECs presently.

Please note that there is no hierarchical order that is followed in the listing of siblings.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai the long-running show on Star Plus produced by Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut has provided us with role model characters when it comes to the brother-sister relationship. Kartik Goenka and Kirti Singhania have had an amazing sibling bond. The same applies to Naira Goenka and Naksh Singhania. The beauty of this show has been that the daughter of the Goenka family, Kirti married the son from the Singhania family, who also happens to be the brother of Naira, daughter-in-law of the Goenka family. We have seen the two families uniting always to celebrate Rakshabandhan. The actors, Mohsin Khan, Shivangi Joshi, Shaheer Sheikh and Harsha Khandeparkar play the above-mentioned roles beautifully.

Presently, Naira Goenka is not alive. The vacuum left by her absence is to an extent being filled up by her look-alike Sirat. Sirat has been accepted by Naksh as sister.

Anupamaa, the numero uno Hindi GEC show which airs on Star Plus is produced by Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut. The story which revolves around the housewife Anupamaa and the manner in which her family, inclusive of her husband and kids have taken her for granted, has been an inspiration to many housewives all over. The show also harbours a great sibling bond, which involves the kids of Anupamaa and Vanraj. Pakhi (Muskan Bamne) is the only sister to brothers Paritosh Shah (Aashish Mehrotra) and Samar Shah (Paras Kalnawat). There has always been a hot-and-cold relationship shared between them, with differences in ideologies and individual perspectives. However, the blood-related bond of being brothers and sisters run deeply in them.

Kundali Bhagya, the Zee TV show which has been on air for a long time is produced by Balaji Telefilms. Though the Luthra brothers do not have their own sister, Karan Luthra (Dheeraj Dhoopar) and Rishabh Luthra (Manit Joura) shower all love on their cousin sister Kritika (Twinkle R Vashisht). Kritika is also the real sister of Sameer Luthra (Abhishek Kapur) in the show. Any problem to Kritika will mean that her loving brothers are always around to help her out and see that she has happiness in her life.

Choti Sarrdaarni, the Colors show produced by Cockrow and Shaika Entertainment has always harboured strong feelings of the bond between brother and sister. Earlier, Meher (Nimrit Kaur) had great respect for her brothers and did anything and everything for them. Presently, Seher (Nimrit Kaur) has an amazing sibling bond with her brothers Param (Shehzaada Dhami) and Karan (Adhik Mehta). The show now runs with the basic plot of the brothers huddling together to get happiness in the lives of their sister Seher.

Sasural Simar Ka 2, the Colors show produced by Rashmi Sharma Productions has thrived around the bond between siblings. Like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Sasural Simar Ka 2 has two families getting into strong relationships of sibling love. Simar (Radhika Muthukumar) and Reema (Tanya Gupta) have a brother Gagan (Aakash Jagga). On the other side, we have Aarav Oswal (Avinash Mukherjee) and Vivaan Oswal (Karan Sharma) showering all love on their sister Aditi Oswal (Shubhanshi Singh). The plot has presently gained bigger prominence with Aditi from the Oswal family falling in love with Gagan Narayan from the other family. While this show has a mix of love and hatred running through the main plot, it is also shown that blood is always thicker than water.

Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi – Nayi Kahani, the Sony TV show produced by Beyond Dreams has always been a love tale between Dev Dixit (Shaheer Sheikh) and Sonakshi (Erica Fernandes). The show which is into its third season now, has brought in the kids angle to the main plot in the new season. The basic plot revolves around two kids Ayushman and Soha, who are not related by blood, but are forced to accept each other as siblings by destiny’s cruel twist. We are sure the story will follow the beautiful path wherein they will accept each other and live the life of being the closest of siblings.

Rakshabandhan Rasal Apne Bhai Ki Dhaal, the show on Dangal produced by Beyond Dreams, has its basic premise of the storyline hovering around the cute bond shared between the sibling kids Rasal (Hardika Sharma) and Shivraj (Ajinkya Mishra). The show’s prime theme has been that Rasal, the sister has always been the main support system and saviour for brother, Shivraj.

Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey, produced by Hats Off Productions for Sony SAB, has two amazing kids, Sakhi and Atharva, who share a great sibling bond. The show has had an enriching influence on the generation of today, and upholds family values and righteousness, even while adding a tinge of comic element into its main plot.

Other shows that have prominent brother-sister bond in its main concepts include Imlie (Aditya, Nishant, Dhruv and Rupali), Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin (Virat, Samrat, Mohit and Devyani) and Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki.

Well, certainly, one is blessed to have a sibling, who always lends shoulder and support, and is the one person to look up to when in need.

We salute all the brothers as well as sisters who have made a mark in their sibling’s lives. And for all the brothers and sisters in tellydom, Wish you all a very Happy Rakshabandhan!!

We all love you!!
