Gurucharan Singh, best known for his role as Roshan Singh Sodhi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently made headlines after mysteriously disappearing for several weeks and then returning. In a candid interview, Gurucharan opened up about various controversies surrounding the popular show, including his unexpected replacement and the ongoing fallout between Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal and producer Asit Kumarr Modi.

Gurucharan Singh on Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal and Asit Kumarr Modi’s Dispute

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Gurucharan Singh discussed his attempts to mediate the tension between his former co-star Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal and the show’s producer, Asit Kumarr Modi. Gurucharan revealed that he met with both parties in hopes of resolving their issues. “I made every effort from my side to ensure that both of them could meet, sit down, and sort things out,” he shared. However, despite his best efforts, the attempt failed as Asit Modi was unwilling to reconcile, even though Jennifer was open to addressing the situation.

For those unfamiliar with the controversy, Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal filed a police complaint against Asit Kumarr Modi, accusing him of inappropriate behavior towards her.

Gurucharan Singh on Being Replaced Without Notice

During the interview, Gurucharan Singh also opened up about his unexpected replacement from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in 2012. When asked why he left the show only to return and then finally depart again in 2020, Gurucharan clarified that his initial exit was not by choice. “In 2012, they replaced me; I didn’t leave. There were some contract discussions, and due to some issues with the agreement, they replaced me without informing me,” he explained.

Recalling the moment he discovered his replacement, Gurucharan said, “I was in Delhi with my family, watching Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. The episode featured Dharmendra promoting one of his films. I was thrilled to see him, but then I was shocked when a new actor appeared as Sodhi. I was completely taken aback.”

Gurucharan mentioned that fans were unhappy with his sudden replacement and urged him to return to the show. After a conversation with Asit Modi’s wife, Gurucharan made his comeback as Roshan Singh Sodhi but ultimately left the show in 2020.

Gurucharan Singh on the Working Environment of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

Addressing the working environment on the sets of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Gurucharan emphasized the importance of open communication to resolve conflicts and maintain a healthy work atmosphere. While he didn’t directly label the environment as toxic, he suggested that issues should be discussed openly to prevent them from affecting the project.

When asked about comments made by Priya Ahuja and Malav Rajda regarding the non-familial atmosphere on set, Gurucharan admitted, “To a large extent, they are right.”

This interview sheds light on the challenges Gurucharan faced during his time on the show, offering a glimpse into the complex dynamics behind the scenes of one of India’s most beloved sitcoms.
