Ch.9:

“Who did it?” He asked her again but she refused to answer. He tightened his grip on her wrist but instead of warning him, Fiza came a little too close to his face.

“And what makes you think I will tell you anything?”

“Because even I know that you didn’t do this.” Fiza kept inching closer to him.

Without a warning she lunged at him, baring her teeth as if ready to bite his shoulder off. Vishal instantly let her go, moving away from the heat her body had provided him for the past minute.

“All of you just need to stay within your limits. Touch an Elite again and I will make sure you actually stay true to your name DOG.”

“You!” Vishal was about to go closer as he pointed his finger at her, but stopped midway. He didn’t want to be near her again.

“You either tell me who did this or I find out from somewhere or SOMEONE.” He menacingly said.

“And EVERYONE will say my name.” Fiza stood tall, challenging him.

“Lets see about that.”

Scene Shift:

“Do you think our parents could stay happy together?” Anya asked Sumedh.

Both of them were just staring out at the city from above. If any of the administrators even saw their feet from below, they would be expelled right then and there.

What’s life without risks though. Sumedh thought in his own mind as he responded, “I hope they do. It would be a shame to not be able to love someone for a second time as well.” There was some unrequited disappointment in his reply but Anya was too furious to notice.

“My mom LOVED my dad!” She burst at him, turning her body as she spoke. Sumedh held her hand and stopped the movements, half dead from the scare of falling down any moment now.

“I wasn’t talking about your family.” He felt her relax in his hand and with a lot of argument in his mind, he let go of his grip on her.

“Your parents didn’t love each other?” Anya was curious.

“They did. And then they didn’t. It’s complicated.” It’s always complicated.

“I don’t want to go down anytime soon. So tell me.” Anya said reassuringly.

“Well, my parents loved each other since a long time. They got married and then 3 years later my sister was born. Coach always took his work seriously so he stayed less with his family and more at Army camps. My mom took over her family business and became so career oriented that both of them found even less time for each other. My brother was born 4 years after and 4 years more and I came along. For 9 years both of them suffered through a loveless marriage. They started off loving each other, then misunderstandings came, fights began, hatred took over, and ruined a lot of lives. But that was temporary. They started compromising their ego for us kids, eventually coming to agreements with house work and us. When they began to respect each other, they knew they should separate. And so they did. No one had any issues afterwards and our family was picture perfect. Happily ever after. Having seen such a marriage, I really don’t want to see another.” He gave a friendly smile.

After a brief silence Anya said “I didn’t know you had siblings. Will they accept this marriage? And your mom?”

“Mom would be happy to see him move on. He’s had a hard life after the separation. And my siblings? I am not too sure about them, but they wouldn’t be such a big pain I know. What about you? Are you moving in with us?”

“You all live together?” She wasn’t expecting that.

“Coach and I, yes. I moved in yesterday itself. I am not ready to get back in my house to face my annoying brother just yet.”

“I wanted Jethley sir to move in with us.”

“Well that’s not happening anytime soon.” Sumedh said defiantly.

“But I can’t leave my mumma!” Anya said a bit too loudly.

“And I am not letting my dad go. I want a proper family…”

“…Of only 2 people” Anya mocked.

“Of 3. Maybe 4 if you move in with your mom.” Sumedh corrected her. “Though that’s going to be hard to adjust to.”

“But I don’t want to!”

“Then who’s forcing you?” Sumedh said nonchalantly.

“I don’t want any of this! This marriage, a step dad, a step family, and such an old step brother.”

“Old?? I am your age!”

“That’s what I am saying. It’s so hard to accept you as a sibling.”

“Not yet. Not siblings yet.” He emphasized the last word. “I am too good looking to call bhai right?” A mischievous smile played on his cheeks.

“NO. You are just too wierd. Completely different from what I wanted my sibling to be. If I ever had one.”

“Or we could just move away from our parents and go or own way. Wouldn’t need to see each other then.” Sumedh was thinking of all the possible ways to avoid the step sibling stuff. It just felt too alienated to him.

“That’s a good idea…”

“For the future” Sumedh completed.
“You never know, good might knock some sense in these 2 and they will stop all this marriage fiasco.”

“You are terrible. Why can you never let your father be happy?” Anya said.

“Excuse me?” Just when he thought she was not that abnormal, she woke him up from his dreams. “You are seriously bi polar. At one point you say you don’t want this marriage and now you blame me. What exactly do you want from me?”

“I don’t know what I want! Life is just so f**ked up sometimes.” Anya noticed the surprise in Sumedh’s face but she felt proud rather than sorry.

“Well, we can sit here and complain the whole day or go down and get things done. ” Sumedh finally said, satisfied by their conversation.

“Thanks.” Anya smiled genuinely.

“You are welcome.” He smiled back, getting off the ledge and helping Anya down.

As they began to walk to the other side, they saw a figure leaning on the edge looking down.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Sumedh asked in a steely tone. Anya wanted to run away right that moment. She was not looking forward to this, but what she saw was even more unexpected.
“Trying to find some peace and silence at a place which is always peaceful and silent. Sorry, I should say WAS” Sid looked at Anya as he said the words. Before Sumedh could even utter a word, Sid started walking away. “Next time just be a bit more discreet.” Sumedh found nothing but whining in his words. Anya however, saw the smirk that played under his expressions as he disappeared.

He heard us.

EL FIN!

SO THAT’S THAT GUYS. Sid will be around for almost every chapter now so look forward to him. 🙂
