I frowned. ”You probably know better than me.”
He sat on the chair grinning. Charlie was already out of the room, so I made myself comfortable. Comfortable for me, was uncomfortable for him.
”You risk your life so much, Bella.” he said, making me sit on the other chair.
”You know you are too old fashioned, Edward?”
”Its not old fashion. Its security. Imagine what Charlie will think if he comes to know about this.”
”Charlie’s reaction would be nothing compared to the one he will give once he realizes I’m not alone in my room any night.”
He grinned.
We started with our homework. I knew this was the only chance.
”So, what do you think of Charlie’s condition?”
He was very still. It was his way of tackling stress. A way I had adopted from him,
”Bella-”he started with such a tone I knew how it will end.
”Look Edward, if you don’t want me grounded again, you probably should agree with Char-”
”Its better that you are grounded than go meet him.”
I flinched.
”You want me to be grounded?”
He sighed. ”Bella, you know what I want. Your safety is my first priority. And in my opinion, its better you are grounded than take a step outside.”
I wanted to deny, but he was right. He always is.
”They can protect me”
”Protect from whom? Themselves?”
”They are not-”
”Bella”, he said in a voice which only mad me silent, ”you know very well how dangerous they are.”
I bent my head, trying to control the flush of emotions. I would never want him to see that. Its so good that something is wrong with my mind and he cant hear…
”’Bella?”
He softly pulled my chin up to look at my face. He sighed, and I guess I had my emotions in control. Good thing Jasper wasn’t here.
”I’m sorry Bella. Sorry what I did. If I had never-”
”How did this come to you? You don’t have anything related-”
”I have everything related-”
”Look Edward”, I cut him off ”whatever non sensible things I did is my responsibility. I has nothing to do with you.”
He studied my face and finally looked away. I sat on his lap and rested my head on his chest.

I could feel him smile. ”Trust me, nobody else knows better than me”
And with that he pulled my face to his, my lips parting and crushing to his. His were always soft, careful. I knew I exactly had four seconds. I wrapped my hands around him and pulled him closer, praying he will forget that he has to pull away. But he has better memory than me, of course.

I frown. He laughed at my expression as I rolled my eyes.
”Bella, will you promise something?”
I looked at him quickly. His face was composed but his eyes were pained. Finally. Finally I could realize when he was in pain.

”Edward, they are not dangerous. They will not hurt me”
He glowered at me.
