Diya Aur Baati Hum fame Surbhi Tiwari who recently filed a case against her husband and inlaws in July has been waiting for justice. During a recent interview the actress shared that the police are looking into the matter and are yet to take action on it.
For the unversed, Surbhi tied the knot with Delhi-based pilot and businessman, Praveen Kumar Sinha, in 2019. Now the actress is planning to file for divorce soon. Talking about it she said, “They have to arrest them as a case has been filed under section 498 A and 377 of the IPC. The cops are telling me that his mother is a senior citizen and cannot travel to Mumbai but I told them she has traveled by car for elections from Dwarka in Delhi to Bihar, why can’t she take a flight and come to Mumbai. I was told that the sisters too cannot come to Mumbai, kyon women hai. I told them I am also a woman and have been coming to the police station to lodge my complaint.”
Surbhi, who was last seen in Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka, has accused Praveen and his family of violence and intimidation. An FIR was registered at Versova police station on June 20 against them. Surbhi had also filed a case of domestic violence in the Metropolitan Magistrates Court, Andheri, on May 12.
Surbhi also shared that her husband is refusing to pay for maintenance and is not signing the divorce papers too. She added, “I had made it very clear to them that I would continue with my work but they didn’t want me to work in TV serials as they felt I would become financially independent and would fight my case against them. But they were fine with me doing films and web series. They wanted me to join politics as my mother-in-law had failed as a politician and the entire plan was made much in advance.”
Earlier, during an interview with BT, Surbhi revealed the reason behind her separation from her husband Praveen. “Soon after I married, I realized Praveen and I wasn’t compatible. Praveen had agreed to move to Mumbai to live with me but later refused to relocate. I wanted to continue acting but I couldn’t take up daily soaps, as I was flying with him. As a result, I was financially dependent on him and struggled for money. Besides, I wanted to start a family soon but he wasn’t keen,” she said.
