Destiny: A SamAina FanFic (Chapter 1)

Hey people! Thank you so much for the likes and comments on the prologue of ‘Destiny’! Here’s the first chapter of my FF, I hope you all like it. And yeah, please note, this story will mostly be written in English (I suck at Hindi, lol). One more thing: Wherever I put <>. Okay, that’s enough, let’s finally start.

AHEMDABAD, 1990:

Young Naina Agarwal cycled alongside her cousin Preeti, as they chatted. Staring at the poster of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, Preeti sighed, “Salman… Yaar Naina, he’s so handsome, na?” Naina comically glared at her sister and shook her head, “God, what should I do with you? Concentrate on studies, Preeti!” “Naina, you’ll never change. Always studies, studies, studies!” At this, the girl turned to frown at her cousin, as Preeti yelled, “Look ahead!” But, it was too late, and as her bicycle crashed into someone else’s, both of them fell onto the ground.

With Preeti’s help, Naina stood up at once, and was about to hold out her hand to the other cyclist, but stopped as she realized it was a boy. He stood up with difficulty, and waited for her to apologize. But, it was as if the girl’s tongue had flown out of her mouth. As she stared into his charming eyes, she just couldn’t help but admire his handsomeness and the innocence that his dark eyes held. Finally, as her sister gave her a shake, she was snapped out of her trance, and stammered, “Th- that… I- I’m I’m so- sorry.” The boy laughed at her style of speaking, and replied, “No problem! It’s alright.”

The girls nodded to him, and once again mounted their cycles and left. “Yaar Naina! He looked exactly like Salman Khan!” said Preeti. Naina shook her head and rolled her eyes, but the boy just wouldn’t leave her mind. Those intense dark eyes, the way his whole face lit up as he laughed, and of course, that amazing hair that reached up to his neck. The girl didn’t say a word the whole ride, her whole mind focused on the handsome, young boy.

The two girls reached school, and Naina cheerfully hugged her best friend, Swati. “Come, let’s go!” They entered their class, and their classmate Munna winked at his friend Pandit. “Hey Pandit!” he screamed watching Swati, and continued “You’re looking better than usual, my friend!” As Naina let out a loud giggle, her friend glared at the comical boy, and as Miss Shanti, their Math teacher entered, all the students immediately got back to their seats and silence ensued after they said their “Namaste, teacher!” Miss Shanti nodded and announced, “Children, today I have news for you all! We have a new boy in our class! Signaling to someone standing outside, the professor said, “Meet Sameer Maheshwari!”

The new boy entered, and all the girls immediately had their eyes fixed on his face with its magical charm. All but Naina. Well, his face was already in her mind. She wasn’t seeing him for the first time, because yes, it was the same young man she had bumped into this morning. As he smiled at his classmates, his eyes suddenly stopped as he saw Naina. The boy’s smile widened and she smiled back, and their eyes locked softly, as if scanning something beyond. But unfortunately, their cute eye-lock lasted only a few moments, as Munna suddenly jumped up and yelled, “Sameer! You didn’t tell me you were joining our school, yaar!”

“Munna!!” Sameer screamed, and the two hugged each other tightly. Amused, Miss Shanti demanded, “How do you two know each other?” “We are cousins!” The two replied together, and the teacher said, “Well, that’s great. But Munna, I can’t fully trust you to take care of the new boy. Naina, you will tell Sameer all about our school, show him all the classes, tell him about the books to be bought and go with him to help him buy them today itself. Sameer, meet Naina. The school’s head monitor.” Sameer obediently nodded, and as the class ended, he walked up to Naina’s desk. “Head monitor? Very clumsy for a head monitor you are!” The two smiled at each other, and he said, “So, let’s go?” “Go where?” “To get the books and all!”

“Oh alright!” She got up, told Swati that she was going, and the two walked out. Kamya, another girl from their class frowned as she saw the handsome new boy talk to that simple Naina. “Sometimes, I seriously wish I was head monitor!” she sighed, resting her head on her palm. Munna, eying the opportunity, took Naina’s seat and screamed, “Pandit! You’re looking too beautiful today!” “It’s Swati!” Swati muttered angrily, and pushed him off the chair.

Meanwhile, Naina and Sameer walked to the school’s bookstore. The girl helped him, and finally he had all the books required. As Naina started walking back to class, Sameer said, “Hey, Naina! We’ve already missed fifteen minutes of the period. Let’s… let’s bunk the rest of the period, right?” The boy was so sure that she would agree immediately, and was surprised to see the frown that appeared on her face. She clenched her teeth and said angrily, “What did you say? Bunk? Don’t you know that bunking is a serious offence?! I thought you were a decent and nice boy, but I was so wrong! You’re the opposite of nice! Since you’re new, you are forgiven for the mistake. But next time… no!”

Naina rushed up the steps, and Sameer was left open-mouthed as he said to himself, “blo*dy hell! What a girl! She’s crazy, for sure! I’ll make sure never to talk to her again!” At the same time, Naina thought, “My judgement was so wrong! What a boy! I’ll never speak to him again!”

Enemies on the first day itself! Will Sameer and Naina ever be friends again? Will ‘opposite poles attract’ or repel when it comes to human beings? To know, keep reading ‘Destiny’!
