It has been five days since I got the biggest shock of my life. I had been on the verge of losing my mother AGAIN. But this time I guess I got lucky. It is now 8:00 pm. Good Lord! I didn’t even realise that I have been here for almost three hours now sitting exactly the same way holding my mother’s hand. She drifted back to sleep and hour ago. It has been like this for the past five days. She has been drifting in and out of sleep. The doctors say there is nothing to worry about. It was just a minor heart attack and it had happened all due to stress. Nothing much to worry about in their opinion but absolutely a lot to worry about in my opinion. It’s all quiet in here and I feel so peaceful right now. No-one except mom and me. Just the perfect moment.
The door opens quietly and my brother LAKSH MAHESHWARI enters with my fragile little sister UTTARA. UTTARA is one delicate human. She cannot stand any sort of violence or unpleasantness, whereas LAKSH was her exact opposite. Violence and s*x were sort of connected in his head. Giving him one meant giving him the other. I could feel a little sensation in my hand. Probably mom was waking up. Yes she was. She stirred a little and then finally opened her eyes.
As soon as her eyes fell on Uttara she tried to sit up bit she was held down by her.
“ Uttara look I am perfectly fine. Nothing has happened to me. its just that my heart got a little bit tired. That’s it. Nothing else. It has to beat for so many people you know. Besides the doctors have said that I can go home by the next week. Hmmmm. Stop crying now. Ok
“listened to what mom said. She is fine darling. I told you. See she herself said so. Hmmmm. So now can eat something.”
“ lucky what do you mean by eat something? Don’t tell me she did not-”
“eat anything for the past 12hrs. That’s correct brother dearest. Your darling sister did not eat anything.”

“UTTARA!” mom and I almost shouted unanimously at the same time.
“Uttara,love. What am I hearing? You starved yourself. Darling, look at yourself. No wonder my child is looking so pale.”
“ Uttara go and have something right now. Ok. And I don’t want to hear a no.”
“stop treating me as a child. I am an eighteen year old girl, alright. I am graduating this year and in another few months I will be giving my boards. Ok. So stop treating me as a child. And do you really think that I will be able to swallow even a morsel of food with knowing that my mother had been fighting life and death.”
“wow ! Ok princess. We understand. We totally understand. That you did not feel like eating anything. It’s ok. Had we been in your position we also would have done the same thing. But now since you can see that mom is all well and good I think you can eat something.” I said. While trying to stifle a smile. But she had already seen it and the volcano burst.
“yes, yes. Laugh at me. Laugh all you want. I know I am an emotional fool and not so strong like you all and … And I don’t care absolutely what you think of me.”
And with that my dearest sister ran out of the room with mom calling after her and lucky and me laughing.
“ that was not funny at all young men.”
And both of us sobered at that.
“mom.” Lucky whined and protested. Well I really forgot to mention that my younger brother thought that mom always loved Uttara and me better of the three of us.
“ mom it’s not fair. You always support Uttara. Even we are your sons. You should also support us sometimes.”
“Well young man I would have supported you and your brother had you not upset your sister.”
“We were only having a bit of fun.” I supported lucky.
“if this is your idea of fun I would say you better not have such fun in future. And say sorry to your sister. It was really rude of you both.”
“fineeeeee” lucky and i said in unison.
