Taking a sharp turn, the car halts at the center of the crossway. She looks and takes a deep breath. Opening the door she came out of the car. Looking at the punctured tire, she muttered a curse.

Ruffling her small fingers through her long brownish hair, she looked on the either side to see if any car is coming but to her no help. Looking at the setting sun, she hits the tire in anger.

Taking out her phone from her jeans, she scrolls through the call log in search of the person she wants to talk, immediately. A sudden voice rang in her ear, in that deep silence she could clearly hear that sound of engine. A single focus and she recognized it to be a car which was definitely coming close to her.

A hope, it was enough to bring that most charming smile on her lips. Looking back she waved her hands in a crisscross manner to give a signal to the person driving. After definitely a few seconds, she could clearly saw the car coming up to her from that long road.

Tip toeing she again waved her hands up in the air with a smile and an idea came in her mind as she stood in the middle of the road.

As soon as the car came closer to her, she kept her hand on her eyes in fear of getting hurt.

Voice: What are you doing, girl? Get aside.

She heard and opening her eyes looked at herself safe. Taking a deep breath, she went and stood in front of the window of the car.

Girl: I’m so sorry. Actually my car is punctured and I immediately have to reach Shimla. Can you give me a lift?

She said with a sugar coated voice expecting him to agree.

Man: I can but I’m not going to Shimla. Look it’s a crossway and my path is completely different from yours yet I can give you the lift till the main road from where you can easily take any cab.

Opening and closing her mouth she tried to form a sentence.

Girl: Oh…it’s ok. I’ll look after something else. I’m sorry for wasting your time.

She said and moving back saw him nodding. Driving the car, she saw as the man moved ahead but again taking a reverse gear came back and stopped in front of her.

Man: Look if you get another lift then do take it because this is a forest area and it’s already going to be dark. Of course there would be many wild animals. So be careful.

She nodded at him and saw as he drove away after his car had left she moved back to her car.

Girl: If he couldn’t help me then what was the need to making me scare. But even then he was right.

She said to herself and again dialed to the person. After a continuous ring for a while, she finally heard the voice.

Voice: Hello Riddhima, where have you reached?

She heard and took a deep breath relaxing her tensed mind.

Riddhima: Ishani, I’m in my grave waiting for my soul to leave my body.

She said with a force smile plastered on her lips.

Ishani: What the….? Are you drunk?

She heard and took a deep breath.

Riddhima: Just shut up, who the hell asked you to keep Shimla as your destination wedding place?

She said and huffed angrily.

Ishani: Will you tell me what’s the issue about?

She asked calmly.

Riddhima: My car tire is punctured and there is no one around from whom I can ask for a lift.

She said and looked around again but no one was there.

Ishani: Oh no…Look, get in the car and just wait a second…

She said and kept the call on the hold. The most irritating thing Riddhima felt at that instant was the voice which was coming from the phone due to the call being on hold.

Riddhima: I know that you don’t have to f**king tell me every time.

She huffing yells on the phone just when Ishani picked up the call.

Ishani: What I told you now?

Ishani asked confused of her words.

Riddhima: I was saying to that ringtone, huhh…are you sending a car here or should I make myself ready for being the dinner of those wild creatures?

Riddhima said irritated by the problems.

Ishani: Yaa…see my cousin is coming from the same way. I have told him about you so on the way he will pick you up but it will take about two hours.

Ishani said the last line in a low voice.

Riddhima: Come again?

She asked keeping the phone close to her ears.

Ishani: it will take about two hours.

Ishani said in a clear voice and keeping the phone away from her ears.

Riddhima: You are a blo*dy idiot, first of all because of you I’m stuck over here secondly you are not sending any car for me and third you are asking me to wait for two hours for your cousin who god knows even if he is going to come or not. You know Ishani, consult your would be husband to search some other bride because you are an idiot. Help me through this Ishani, please.

She said angrily and with tensed expression.

Ishani: Riddhima, I’m trying. Just wait for him even I’ll try to send a car from here.

Riddhima nodded and disconnected the call. Looking up she saw the sunset view looking so real, so ethereal just like a dish of gold. The golden rays of the setting sun falling on top of the trees making her feel calm but again the fear overcomes her mind as soon as she heard a loud roar. Turning back she looked at the dense forest, nothing was visible except darkness.

Getting in quickly she hugged the bag close to her chest and closed the window panes to protect herself from any wild animals. Closing her eyes she started chanting her mom’s name. But just an idea at that time came in her mind was the last words of her mother whom she had lost at a very young age.

“Jab bhi dar lage aankein band karna aur mujhe bulana, main tumhare saath rahungi har waqt.”

Her eyes filled with tears as she remembered of that last plane crash which destroyed her life as it took away the last hope of her life her mom.

——————-

Taking a deep breath he looked at the wide screen in front of him.

Man: Now who the hell knows who is that girl? How am I going to recognize her? No photo, no name. Ishani…

He growled and waited for Ishani to say but no voice came. Looking up at the top of the screen, he cursed his luck.

Man: Again there is no network here.

Driving at the fastest speed possible, he entered in the forest area. Dark, dense with bluish glow in the sky was making everything so surreal and mind calming that he wished to stay here only but of course not willing to be the dinner of wild animals.

But the only wish was at that time, to spend some of his time with his soulmate in the middle of this jungle. Just she, him and no else with all the worries kept faraway from them. They being in each other arms, looking at the sunset, her smell to fill his nostrils, her smile to make his marathon champion heart just calm as a loser can be.

Shrugging all the wild thoughts coming to his mind in the middle of the jungle he took a deep breath. Focusing on the road was the most important thing he has to do now.

——————-

After a complete one and a half hour, Riddhima raised up her head to look at the dark forest straight in front of her eyes. Fear was overcoming her positive thoughts. Grabbing back her phone, she looked at the screen to call back Ishani but to her disappointment there was no network.

Her red nose, puffy eyes, cold hands even on not crying she felt like she is being crying for hours.

Riddhima: I’ll have to move out.

She said and tightening her grip on her phone she came out. Looking around the darkness, she opened her screen and raised her hand in the air for network but how was it possible in that dense forest in that dark.

Just when she heard a voice was footsteps coming close to her, turning back she grabbed her phone and was about to open the flashlight but then thinking if it to be some wild animal and her opening the light will only cause it to pounce on her.

Padding her way close to the steps, she again looked around but she was all alone. Moving closer, she heard the voice of crushed dry leaves under her feet but that footstep was long gone. After a while, she was a two yellow dots flashing up in the air.

Her mind came as all the horror movies where she saw these to resembling to be a ghost and in all that fear her phone fell from her hands. But not able to think of it she moved back in the car and closed her door.

Without even blinking her eyes she kept looking in the direction. Just when she heard a knock on her window which was may be only to freak out. Shouting on top of her voice, she could have possibly made that creature deaf only if it wasn’t standing out of the car.

After a while when she stopped shouting, she looked back on the door to see no one was there. Heart attack she was definitely close to get it and before that could even happen she saw a person in front of the car with a broad forced smile on his lips.

Opening the roof of the car, she stood on her seat and slightly rose her head out of the car.

Riddhima: Are you a ghost?

She asked looking at his messy hair, deep black eyes. Muttering a curse as if to why she is looking at an unknown person in such a manner.

Voice: Are you dumb? Cause at the middle of the jungle at around 8 pm you are talking rubbish. Remember your Ishani…? Now come out.

She heard his voice and relaxed. Closing the roof, she grabbed her things came out of the car.

Looking at him she saw as he was standing with his hands across his chest. Rolling her eyes she turned back. Again looking in the same direction.

Vansh: Someone else is also with you?

She heard his irritated voice and shook her head.

Riddhima: Something was there.

She said and pointed at that direction. He leaving her there moved ahead in the same direction. Turning back he saw as she was standing there still.

Vansh: Are you coming?

He said and saw as she followed him. Within a second, she again saw the same two yellow dots in the air. Moving close to him, she saw as he removed the bushes from their way.

As soon as they came out of the bushes she saw a car parked there. She saw as he moved towards it.

Riddhima: Oh…Mr.? Is it your car?

She asked him while standing on his way.

Vansh: Of course, who else do you think will be roaming in the middle of the jungle in search of you.

He said and got in the car. Moving towards the car, she threw her things on the bag seat.

Vansh: I’m not your driver, so come and sit here.

She heard his voice as soon as she sat there. Moving to the door she was about to open it but then leaving that thought in the backseat only, she climb to the front seat. He saw her as she sat on the seat.

Riddhima: What?

He heard and looked straight.

Vansh: 8th wonder of the world.

Mumbling in a low voice he started driving.

Riddhima: 8th wonder me? Seriously? First of all you made me wait over here for 2 hours and now that’s my mistake.

Saying in a high pitch yet calm voice, she looked at the road ignoring his presence.

After a ride of half an hour, they looked at the never ending road which again and again brought them back to the forest.

Riddhima: Are you even aware of the routes?

She asked and saw as he nodded.

Vansh: I remember google map was telling the same route…

She said and looked around but his phone was no where.

Riddhima: Where is your phone?

She asked him raising his eyebrows.

Vansh: There is no network over here I remember the routes carefully.

He said and suddenly the car stopped. He looked at her shocked then at the car.

Riddhima: Now what?

She asked and looked as he removed the seat belt.

Vansh: I’ll have to check.

Saying so he moved out of the car. She saw and moved out of the car. Looking at him she saw as he lifted up the bonnet and adjusted it.

Riddhima: btw, what’s your name?

She asked moving away from him. Peeking out of his work, he looked at her and then again moved back to his work.

Vansh: Why you want to know?

He asked searching for the problem.

Riddhima: Then what should I call you?

Asking him she took her phone. But he didn’t answered for a while.

Vansh: Aryan…

Nodding at his words she waited for him to ask but when he didn’t.

Riddhima: Riddhima Sharma.

He didn’t even said a word for her words. Rolling her eyes around the long dense trees, she could clearly hear the voices of wild animals. Afterall this thing was scaring her about the outcomes of the ride. Opening her phone she started searching for network while he was looking at the problem. Definitely, this night is going to be too long for them.
