Confusion of the Mind (Chapter 2)

Anika POV

I quickly put the papers inside and rushed to open the door. Outside was Bhagad Billa and his entire clan including Ishana, Soumya and the two mice as well as a young boy.

“Jaan, are you okay?” Shivaay asked.

I nodded mutely.

“Anika, I knocked the door several times and Ishana told me that you did not look too well.”

He walked into the room and shut the door, leaving all the other giggling humans outside. His eyes went towards the file that was half hidden under the pillow.

His expression suddenly changed.

“I should have guessed that you were doing this. Anika, just by looking at an old certificate and trying to find something wrong with it, will not help you.”

He gripped my hand and twisted behind me. “Remember, Ms. Anika, that the papers were made by me, Mr. Shivaay Singh Oberoi and he never makes any mistake.”

With that he dropped me to the floor and walked into the closet and took some clothes and into the bathroom.

I looked at my wrist. I felt tears pool into my eyes. I should have realised that it was all too good to be true. I slowly walked to the closet and took out the first dress I saw. It was a long sleeved white dress. Matching with that I picked out a pair of ballet flats and a gold heart necklace.

When I walked out, I saw that my face had tear lines.

Shivaay walked out of the bathroom. He was in his three piece suit.

“Get yourself together. We can’t have you looking like that, Jaanu.” He looked at me with a sneer.

After he left, I rushed into the bathroom and cried.

I cried because he hurt me. I cried because I did not know what had happened in the past 10 years. I cried because I felt like it.

Finally, I got ready and came downstairs.

Nia came running to me.

“Mama, can I take poochi?”

I nodded absently.

We all piled into the car. Everyone was squeezed into one car cause Om and Rudra did not feel like driving and wanted to go together. Nia was sitting on my lap. Pia and the other boy, Nikhil were in the back. Rudra and Om were squeezed in the single seat in the front. Ishana was sitting next to me and Soumya next to her.

When we reached the mall, I saw Tia, a man, which I am guessing is Siddarth and Mallika standing outside. Tia was talking on the phone and Mallika was talking to him. In his hands was a little girl.

After everyone alighted, Mallika came running to me.

“Hi Chutki.” I thought she was talking to Nia but she hugged me. Then she took Nia out of my arms.

“Come to Maasi, my little pari.”

The man came up to me. “Saali sahiba, your little devil has been asking for you since we got here.”

Mallika half-heartedly slapped him. “Sid, that is my baby that you are talking about.”

He passed me the kid. I took her. She placed her head on my shoulder and was fiddling with my necklace.

Suddenly, Shivaay walked up to us. He held my waist and gave me a peck on my cheek. “Jaan, you all roam around. I have an urgent call and I will meet you all in one hour.”

I nodded.

“Sid!” I heard Mallika call.

He came running up to us. “Take Nia and Niara. I and Anika are going to have some bonding time.”

He took both the kids.

“Anu, what happened?” She asked as we walked away.

“Mallika, I don’t remember how all this happened?”

She looked at me puzzled.

“Meaning?”

“It is like I can’t remember the last 10 years.”

She looked sad. “I should have known. Come. Sit. Well, Choti, you fell at our house yesterday. We did not think it was serious. The doctor said that something like this might happen.”

I was surprised now.

“Mallika, can you please tell me what is going on.

She hesitated and then nodded.
